The Genesee Community College Women’s Soccer team lost to Jamestown Community College-Cattaraugus 2-0 on Tuesday night, falling to 5-9 on the season.
The Lady Cougars kept the 7th ranked team in NJCAA Division III off the board for the majority of the first half. It wasn’t until the 36th minute that Ashley Skelly gave the Jaguars a 1-0 lead, scoring on a breakaway. The score remained 1-0 into the half.
In the second half, Jamestown controlled the tempo by keeping play in GCC’s end. Goalkeeper Amanda Brown did a nice job in net to keep the Lady Cougars in the game. Skelly was able to beat Brown in the 23rd minute however, to give Jamestown-Cattaraugus a 2-0 lead, which they would hold on to for the win.
GCC’s best chance came late in the second half when Morgan Glover (Belmont, NY) fired a ball just inside the box off of a corner kick. Catching the goalkeeper out of position, it was a Jaguar defender that stepped in to make the save.
GCC falls a game below .500 in conference play (3-4) and will play at home on Saturday, October 15th at 11am against SUNY Delhi.
