The Genesee Community College women's basketball team snapped a five game losing streak at Erie Community College on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Lady Kats 73-53.
Kayla Golden (Lackawanna, NY) led the way for Genesee with 21 points and 10 rebounds and was 12-13 from the free throw line. Chyna Lennox (Moseley, VA) added 15 points, Jalessa Rogers (Syracuse, NY) had 10 points and eight rebounds and Jasmine Armstead (Rochester, NY) chipped in with nine points.
Genesee trailed by one point early on in the contest, but never trailed again after that. They lead 35-28 at the half and had a lead as large as 20 with three minutes remaining. The Lady Cougar bench outscored the Lady Kats bench 19-9 and GCC recorded 30 points in the paint.
The win is the first since January 19th for GCC, when they defeated Niagara County Community College. The Lady Cougars improve to 7-19 overall and are now 2-5 in Western New York Athletic Conference play. They head to Monroe Community College on Tuesday for their next contest at 6pm.
