New Car Plate Fees thanks to NYS

By Melissa George

Did anyone see on the news that there is going to be new fee’s when you go to register your car…you will be forced to get a new license plate? And the cost for a driver’s license is also going up…to help with the state budget.

Does anyone know why if you live in Wyoming County you have to pay an extra $10 for your vehicle registration then if you live in Genesee County?   And if the DMV makes a mistake and charges you that $10 fee because your mail is delivered by a Wyoming County Post Office, but you really do live in Genesee County, they won't give you the money back. Those that live in Pavilion, but have mail delivered by the Wyoming Post Office...you should check your registration bills..

Since the state charges different registration fees for different vehicles, are they going to charge different fees for plates as well?

This is a fee that all owners of vehicles are being forced to pay for no reason. The plates on my cars are fine…don’t need replacing, but yet when the time comes, I need to get new ones…

Just another TAX INCREASE that the politicans don't call a tax increase. Imagine the impact on Businesses that have multiple vehicles?? This is another reason we need a constitutional convention to clear out the trash in Albany. It's just too easy to raise taxes "and fees" and not easy enough to eliminate waste. We all could do some stuff to help.
1. Contact legislative reps/ most however that rep us agree with us. Our voice is muffled by downstate liberals. Write to them also, their addresses are available on internet. Folks that live in NYC and ride the subway don't care about car licenses.
2. Get out and vote !! We have enough votes upstate and elsewere to overcome downstate if we just went to the polls. Last election( I worked on) only 60% of registered Republicans in Genesee County even voted. But we need all of us, not just republicans. We are all in this together.
3. Stay informed. Like reading this article on theBatavian.com. Get all the facts and get MAD! Ofer solutions to your complaint. Like moving out!! Write or call Shumer and Gildebrand and tell them respectfully how you feel. Heck I even got a response from Hillary once.
Thanks for this reminder and wakeup call. We pay way too much to live here, especialy for what we get. I suspect the DOG Tax is next. They call it a license, but it's a Tax on Fido any way you look at it.

Ok, I THOUGHT this portion of the executive budget was cut way back in the Spring. The only place I can find information from the government is when I googled "NYS Executive Budget". According to the Executive Budget this new plan would be put into place in the Spring of 2010.

However, some things have been cut from the budget, like the "fat tax". But, in my quick search this morning, I couldn't find info on what had officially been cut.

I dont understand why NYS would do this to Upstate, when we are already having a hard time financially. I think it has to do with NYC, and the fact that alot of them walk, take a taxi, or subway. The ones who implimented these new fees must be from NYC.

Did you know New York City's citizens complain about how "upstate" New York doesn't pay for their fair share?

Everyone in this state, for the most part, pays their share in taxes. It would be in everyone's best interest to lower taxes, fees, and fines. I don't think being from New York City has anything to do with this budget. It's the Executive Budget, meaning the Governor put this together, no other representatives took part in creating it. If you look at the link I posted, the new "revenues" will be generated by almost everyone out there.

Oh well, we live in NY-what do you expect???? Just be THANKFUL our registrations are as cheap as they are-California goes by value of vehicle-would you rather pay hundreds of dollars a year just to have your car registered???? Some vehicles do need to have plates replaced-some plates on our semi trailers are disintegrating-road salt wreaks havoc on them.I wish they could get a different supplier for the registration stickers-I was putting my NEW registration on our car last night, and the corners were peeling back already after I put it on!!!!! I take my thumbnail and go around the edges of it(stand outside of vehicle when I do this)-it is easier to see the sticker seal to window(the adhesive looks darker when it supposedly is a good seal)...

The stickers are that way now, because they are going to charge you to replace them if they come off, and they don't want you taping them to the window!

There is no charge to replace....while waiting in line at DMV yesterday, lady ahead of us said she needed a replacement registration sticker-the DMV clerk said that is a no-fee transaction......

My car was registered 2 months ago and shortly after the sticker started coming off. It was funny because around the same time my son bought a car and put it on the road told me his sticker was coming off too. I mentioned it to my father and he told me that the DMV was going to replace the faulty stickers. Originally they were going to charge like $5 or something (I can't remember how much) to replace them, then later said they would replace them for free.

Rochester's news stations said that normally there is a fee to replace the registration sticker (and inspection sticker), but this year they are waiving the fee because of the bad glue.

sounds like George Costanza was in charge of the stickers this year :)

It does, doesn't it?
I can just see them figuring out how to save money and go with a lower bid, never giving consideration to the use of a lesser quality adhesive.
If George Costanza had been in charge, then there would also be the 'lethal' problem if the glue somehow was ingested.
Funny episode, Bud, one of the few I can remember watching all the way through.
