The unemployment rate for the county dropped to 6.9 percent in August, down from 7 percent in July.
New York's jobless rate hit 9 percent, however, the highest level in 26 years.

Where did you get this info? Online info says unemployment for Batavia is 9.5% and it's 1% higher than the national average. Chairman of federal reserve says it's 9.7% nation wide and will go higher found in this weeks Daily News. Looks like we can't even get figures straight.

The stats come from the State Department of Labor, and specifically, <a href="http://www.labor.state.ny.us/workforceindustrydata/Pressreleases/prtbur… page</a>. 6.9 percent for Genesee County in August 2009 is accurate. It was 4.7 percent a year ago.
