Genesee County's state senator Mike Ranzenhofer has put his name on a bill aimed at asking New York voters whether the state should be divided into two states.
Capitol Confidential has a few snarky comments about the bill as well as the full text.
I have a call into Ranzenhofer's office seeking comment.
Oh the irony. Ranzenhofer's
Oh the irony.
Ranzenhofer's campaign was virtually bankrolled by Long Island, all that's being done here is a massive illusion to try to distract upstaters from real problems. Perhaps Ranzenhofer should focus on, ya know, relevant issues such as Medicaid reform, lowering property taxes and bringing badly needed aide to Genesee County instead of engaging in silly and unnecessary myopia.
I would like to use a
I would like to use a lifeline please....
I would like to borrow a quip from Prez Obama " Its like the special Olympics".
Can u believe that with all the turmoil that NYS is going thru that these jokers are getting paid by us to come up with something like this ?
Sounds like the politicians want to add more jobs but for their kind. Two different states double the blood sucking politicians and pork barrel bull poo.
Where is the organized crime boss when u need him? At least he could pay them off to keep their mouths shut or wack em.....
Wait a minute did elliot spitzer have a hand in this ?
we all know he loves hoes but not the upstate farmers tool !
I would suspect that this is
I would suspect that this is a scheduling snafu on Sen. Ranzenhofer's part. He most likely planned this announcement for next week Wednesday.
Let the wingnuttery commence!!!
What an idiot. I hope I'm
What an idiot. I hope I'm allowed to say that Howard. And he's getting paid to come up with this nonsense.
Is this a joke??
Is this a joke??
Hey Howard, Good luck with
Hey Howard, Good luck with that returned phone call:) OK...everyone think back to your favorite Scooby Do cartoon where the pup incredulously cocks his head to the side and in his own lovely dog language says..."HUH??".
I say we seperate the state right down the middle....right near umm....Peekskill. Yeah...that's it. It's nice that they are trying to pass the time in Albany, but talk about a waste of time, energy and money. Seriously misguided group I'd say. I am sure it has everything to do with money...it's always about money.
Dan, This is no joke, it's
Dan,
This is no joke, it's just stupid. But let it come to a vote once and for all.
I love this idea, hell I
I love this idea, hell I mentioned the last time I posted here.
Mandates from NYC politicians hurt the upstate economy.
Draw the line from Vermont around Albany and drop it straight down to PA.
Do this, then adopt a fair tax style system in the New New York and watch us flourish.
Batavia is already one of the fastest growing cities, this can only help.

I edited my previous response incase my language upset anyone but its my opinion and i am sticking to it. I am not offended by anyone whom disagrees with me at all.
Since New York City is
Since New York City is sending resources to Upstate, why wouldn't New York City want to divide our state into two states?
Good point, Pat. I hadn't
Good point, Pat. I hadn't thought of it that way before. If Upstate is the drain on downstate, why isn't that part of the state clamoring to getaway from the knobknockers (as erudite and elitist New Yorker Walter Lippmann once called Upstate New Yorkers).
While I agree with a portion
While I agree with a portion of the thought, I say take it a step further...there is a defined difference between downstate and uptate NY. The same holds true for PA, except it's east/west there.Instead of a 51st state(which I pray never happens with puerto rico!), we should realign our state boundaries. Take downsate NY and east PA, and make 1 state, and upstate with western PA, resulting in state #2. Makes perfect sense. Liberal state 1 and moderately conservative state 2. They just can't have the Adirondacks. It's ok, though, for them to keep Albany.....and all the bullshit politicians that hang there! Any one think THIS is a good idea? Senator???
There is NO comparison with
There is NO comparison with PA and NYC.
Karen, that whole tri-state
Karen, that whole tri-state area(NY,PA,NJ)are far more comparable to each other than they are to WNY. I will agree on one thing...there is,unfortunately, no comparison between NY and PA. Pennsylvania is not nearly the socialist bastion that New York state has become. Compare taxes, cost of living,etc...Pennsylvania wins hands down. Please don't take this as NY bashing...I love New York! I just don't like the career politicians who dictate my every move and try to steal every last cent I have! If you know anyone who lives in west PA, compare your property taxes and services to theirs. Then you'll see why it makes sense to re-align.
Next time you go to the grocery store, which I know is where you gather all your knowledge for this site, ask your friends what they think! You'll be surprised.
I'm still waiting on Karen's
I'm still waiting on Karen's statistics that she claims are fact showing that upstate NY suffers from the debt of NYC. When she can provide me with valid statistics that she didn't get at the grocery store, I'll stop calling Ranzenhofer an idiot.
