There are so many, but my all time favorite is Holiday Inn. It introduced "White Christmas"; featured two of my favorite entertainers, Bing and Fred; and the music was by one of my favorite composers, Irving Berlin.
It was released in 1942, but it was the first movie I remember seeing, which means it had to be re-released shortly after WW2. I'm not sure why I like this movie the best, it is schmaltzy, has a corny story line, and is predictable - yet, when it is shown, I'm there to watch it.
Of the movies listed, the one I absolutely hate is "Christmas Story". I'll never understand the cult following it has and cringe when they show it as a marathon.
Ah, George, that must be it!
I'll stick to Dickens and Berlin for my warm and fuzzies during the holiday season.
Howard forgot another old chestnut, circa 1945 with Barbara Stanwyck and S. Z. Sakall, that still is fun to watch, "Christmas in Connecticut".
I enjoy watching producer, Larry Levinson's made for TV holiday movies just to see how often they use the same house exterior.
I wonder if it is his home?
I've spotted it in at least five movies.
Merry Christmas.
