Even more important is the
Even more important is the School Board and School Budget vote in two weeks (May 17th).
There are two seats open and three people running. One, Wayne Guenther, is an incumbent who just recommended a 5% increase in our school taxes while not touching one administrative job. He recommends cutting teachers and aides but not the Hall Monitor/Security Guard. We have three elementary school principles instead of consolidating the jobs into one, with Assistant Principles in each school.
We still pay twice the going rate for our substitute teachers (that's right, twice as much) than any other school district in the county. We still hire board members relatives (bet none of them are getting laid off).
The two new people are Al McGinnis and Amy Barone. It's time for a change.
I wish I were eligible to
I wish I were eligible to vote (I don't live in the City). The Richmond offers so much to our community!
John: Do you know if either
John: Do you know if either of them will release some kind of statement regarding their background and position? The only thing I've seen on them is a mention in the Daily News about a week ago.
I'm wholeheartedly endorsing
I'm wholeheartedly endorsing Al McGinnis. Those of you who lurk around here on The Batavian know that John Roach and I spend most of our time disagreeing with one another, so it's a rare occasion when we agree on a candidate, but Al is the right guy for the job and both John and I know it.
Al is a conservative guy and I think that's what the school board needs right now. State aid to school districts is going to be lower than usual and we need people in charge of the budget who know how to stretch a dollar.
