I remember once when my wife was being a nasty nag and throwing a fit while trying to clean my horrible garage. The pick up was loaded with trash to take to the dump and there was still a huge pile of various pieces of lumber that wouldn't fit and I couldn't burn it in the backyard because of a drought and a burn ban. But BBQ Smokers were exempt so I loaded up my pit and started burning. Within twenty minutes it was glowing red hot in broad daylight and I couldn't get within ten feet without getting blisters. I ended up making a second trip to the dump. This has nothing to do with a burning tree but in essence I was burning a tree. I won't do that again. My only regret is that I didn't take a ball peen hammer to the drum while it was malleable, I still use it and it would make a great conversation piece when friends never come over and I talk to myself, like now.

I'm 62 and this is the first time I have ever heard of a tree fire. Was it spontaneous combustion like the comically mythical burning bush?

I'm not one to normally be a thumbs-giver (up or down), George, but, for some convoluted reason, I thought your 2nd comment deserved an up vote.
Have a great day in the state of "Confusion"!
