While it's never good to hear
While it's never good to hear about any accident, I always feel a "touch of home" when I hear the moniker "Texaco Town".
It was a hub of activity, decades ago. I can still envision the look on Beulah's face, when taking orders for milkshakes at 3:30 in the morning. And, the sideways glances from a dozen truckers, wolfing down their bacon, eggs and homefries. Ahhh... Home Sweet Home!
Hey Ed, whatever happened to
Hey Ed, whatever happened to that place? I moved to East Bethany in the summer of 03, and remember the diner being open briefly. I always thought that intersection would be a killer location for a larger trucker parking lot, a better fueling station, and a great eatery. It's prime for lots of truck traffic. I miss the Pit Rd pizza place when John Saravullo had it open. I loved going in there and shooting the chit with him.
Hi, Doug.
Hi, Doug.
I can't answer for the "reason" why T-town didn't survive (or, thrive).
When I was a teen, and, probably long before that, it was exactly what you thought it "should" be.
The diner was open 24/7/364. It was not unheard of to see a dozen or more semi's parked out behind it - any time of the day, or, night. There was a "bunk house" for weary drivers, and showers for the "smelly" ones. Of course, nowadays, most long-haulers have their sleeping quarters right in their rigs.
