One of Batavia's newest businesses held a ribbon cutting on Thursday with representatives of the Chamber of Commerce -- the Rest & Revive Float Center at 596 E. Main St.
Partners Gary VanValkenburg and Brandon Buckle converted the former location of The Bed Room, where they sold beds, into a place where people can come and float in water field with epsom salts to help them relax and deal with any number of different health issues.

I wish they would have
I wish they would have mentioned how these float pods are kept sanitary. I bet a lot of people would want to know.

Thank you howard.....I'm sure there is no way of being 100% positive that people are showering..so until they come up with a better way of guaranteeing that these are sanitary i'll pass on the float
Jeff, there are U.S. Float
Jeff, there are Float Tank Standards recommended by the North American Float Tank Association for sanitary and public health reasons. Here's a PDF link to view them:

Children are not allowed in most if not all float tanks, since they tend to have more "accidents" regarding body functions.
Ozone filtration systems are used; there's UV sanitation and the magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt) itself is a natural antimicrobial. In testing, bacteria injected into pods died quickly.
There have been no reported illnesses or contamination. They are probably cleaner that most municipal pools. I'll bet there are more germs on the handle of a shopping cart than in a float pod.
