Assemblyman Steve Hawley is in the midst of leading his annual Patriot Trip to Washington, D.C., but he just sent over this statement regarding the unfunded mandate by the NYS Corrections Commission requiring Genesee County to spend another $1 million on jail guards:
I was apprised by Genesee County officials of yet another $1 million unfunded mandate from Albany about a week ago. We are working closely with county officials to remedy this. When will Albany ever get it?

One of the questions appears to be answered, Both Ranzenhofer and Hawley have stated that they were informed of the mandate by Genesee County officials.
There is a long way to go with this issue and we by no means know how it is going to play out. That said, at least we know, if we take our state reps word, that the county officials have not yet just rolled over.

It needs to start with strong representation, which I feel we are sadly lacking. But beyond that, the people need to get informed [again a real lacking of our local representation... the report implies that Hawley was informed by the County(?)... why wasn't he [and Ranzenhofer] on top of this situation first?]
Upstate NY needs to come together and stop playing "nice" with Albany politics, and rather make a unified stand and tell Albany, screw you... we're not gonna put up with your NYC driven heavy handed control!
Just refer to the SAFE Act revolt... 52 NYS Counties are opposed while only 10 Counties support, and yet we sit on our thumbs waiting for some ET intervention that will change everything for the better???
As unwelcome as it truly would be, just as our revolutionary founding father heroes did, it may be time to contemplate more serious action against the tyrants who have taken control.
