This was an interesting sight over Batavia this evening -- at 7:21 p.m. -- a rather large jet getting refueled. I only had a 270mm zoom lens on my camera and this photo is blown up quite a bit, but I can't see any markings on the white plane.
I guess these aircraft must be USAF. I can't think of who else would be operating aerial refueling tankers. The downwind jet is as large or larger than the refueler! Can anybody provide insight based upon these colorations or form factors???
I can't quote on what the white plane is but the grey(ish) plane is a KC130 which is a refuling plane, doing exactly that.
There are KC 130's stationed at the Niagara Falls Air Force Base.
The white aircraft is a Boeing 777, or at least resembles it closely. The "triple 7" has those "smaller" gas chambers under the wings
between the engines and the wing tips.
Correct, Dave, the C-130 is a turboprop as are all its variations. That's a KC-135.
An all white jet typically spawns conspiracy theories, but this could be as simple as a new tail heading off to be painted prior to beginning service. Refueling here suggests a trans-continental then trans-Atlantic flight
The recieving aircraft is a Boeing KC767-A which the Boeing has been promoting, the tail markings are Italian Air Force, but one would assume that it is either an additional purchase or a maiontenance flight fromthe plant,
I know Italy bought four a few years ago and and Japan bought four around the same time. The aircraft got tremendous reviews. They are manufactured in Wichita KS. Here is an old article from the Italian delivery.
Got a little flight time in LC-130's with VXE 6 in Antarctica, most of my time was in P-3 Orions which have the same engines as C-130. Now every time I hear one, I get very sleepy. I saw a KC-135 blow up on the runway at Eielsen AFB in Alaska, we were pre flighting a P-3 at the time, very scary.

Been chatting with somebody on Facebook who suggests a Boeing 767, and that the Italian AF flies nearly all white planes.

Kathleen, The KC 135 tankers
Kathleen,
The KC 135 tankers are no longer stationed in Niagara Falls. Both units there now have C-130's.

Chris, I'd rather go with a conspiracy theory. It's the Bilderberg Jet and they are transferring gold bullion not fuel

I saw this happening a few days ago so they must be doing some training. It isn't something you get to see very often.
Great - now we not only have
Great - now we not only have to worry about the black helicopters, but also the white and gray planes.
Better go add another layer of foil to my hat.
