Great photos that bring back fond memories.
I practically spent all my winter days there when it snowed 50 years ago.
I had a wood sled with steel runners and with eight stout springs between the frame wood platform that acted like shock absorbers. In those days we kept the runners polished with steel wool and coated with wax from old candles to make it go faster.

My brother Art and I spend many a Winters' day coasting down that same hill with our flexible flyer sleds. I remember one large, protruding tree root we used as a ramp to propel us into the air. It was amazing that we did not injure ourselves seriously. Of course when you are ten years old, you are invincible.

Yes, I remember “the killer tree” and if I remember correctly it was on the far left adjacent to State Street and three-quarters of the way down where we reached maximum speed.
Toboggans just couldn’t cut it and had a tendency hang up or tip sideways on “the killer tree”.

The killer tree sent a kid to the ER one afternoon when he wiped his sled out, as he stood up, a toboggan hit him right in the face.
Many fond memories of "state hill" as it was called in the 60's.
