Get rid of those NYC life time incumbents Democrats, whose sole purpose is to line their own pockets with taxpayers money, and you will eliminated 90% of the problem.
2 perfect comments above. Gentlemen. The Col. Sanders one especially. I like how Cuomo said that they would be tasked with uncovering corruption in the government. I don't know what there is to uncover, it's been laying around right out in the open for a long time.
I guess the proof will be in the pudding. Call me a skeptic.
Again, as the poll question is WRITTEN, I voted no.
Maybe,(JUST maybe), if Andy had said, "NY needs an anti-corruption panel, so I'm gonna let the 'people' pick/form said panel", then I might've said yes.
And, even then, I think such a panel should be solely comprised of 'blue-collar' workers.
Farmers, welders, waitress, etc. - FINE! But, if you are a person that wears a tie for anything other than when you walk your daughter down the aisle, you are automatically eliminated.
I'd (almost) go so far as to say, if Coumo says we even need such a panel, I'd almost believe THAT was a lie. That's how much I wouldn't trust him!
But, Hey, when the panel finally reports, then you'll know where the state stands on corruption (Sorry for the 'Pelosiism').
corruption like sheldon silver using taxpayer money to buy Vito Lopez a 900$/hour lawyer for his sexual harassment lawsuit? most of the corruption in ny politics is perfectly legal that is the problem, this panel will find nothing because most of whats going on is legal.
While we watch the news and politics of the day and wonder if and when something drastic may happen. I'd like to post a reminder of the past.
Please take a moment today between 2 and 2:30pm to remember that at this same time 150 years ago today, the final battle in the fighting at Gettysburg took place and 10,450 men were killed or wounded fighting there. Such an incredible loss and tragedy should stand as a lesson of what can happen when the turmoil in the US reaches critical mass. These men fought for their cause w single shot weapons and cannons and did this in less than an hour all out of the passion of fighting for their cause, no matter how right or wrong that cause seems to us now. Imagine if driven to civil war what it would be like today. Please just take a moment in this half hour if only to honor those who died.
The real issue here is this, Coumo failed to get the Legislation through to accomplish his agenda on this so in Obama like fashion, he is working around it with executive action. To a partisan, that may seem a good thing except like all partisan eventually the pendulum swings the other way.
Why is that important, they will have subpoena power that will look will enable them to seek political donors list, which could be used to pressure political opponents, or could pressure local governments to yield to gubernatorial agendas etc.etc.etc.
Just like the department of taxation is now interpreting laws in different fashions than past history, so too is it likely this panel can do the same and likely will do the same despite the noble intent if there truly is one.
No panel as such should ever be convened with out legislative action or oversight, that is why our government is based on three separate but equal branches in the first place.
The problem is that the "FEEL GOOD POLITICAL BANTER' mask the deep seeded intent and potential missuse
I voted no as all this would do is add more government employees and..... we all ready have people to do this job, called the state police let them do their job....
the Sheldon thing just goes to show you there are two sets of laws, one for you and me, and one for the politician....
~ My first reaction was "Would I support foxes guarding henhouses?"
Ridiculous ! Everyone sees the corruption, no one in government has the cajones to deal with it.
Kyle, while those souls rest in peace, I take a moment on this Independence Day to think about a much greater tragedy, the demise of
the greatest republic on the planet. Our founding fathers must be rolling over in their graves.
Corrupt people wanting to investigate corrupt people, sounds about right in this day and age, thus a resounding NO.
Pot. Kettle.

Similarly, I also support Col. Sanders' "Save The Chickens" campaign.
