John Gerace, who has served on the Town of Batavia Board for more than 16 years, resigned his position more than a week ago.
No reason has been given for his resignation.
Supervisor Greg Post confirmed Gerace's resignation today but declined to comment further.
Post said the board has not yet decided on a process for filling the vacant position.
Gerace could not be reached for comment.

Have anything to do with the
Have anything to do with the personal conflict of interest. Isn't is domestic partner (maybe wife now) also in a position with the Town? I was concerned about her appointment from the start. I think her involvement is a huge conflict because of her "day" job. Not fair to residents of the area. Glad I'm not one!
It's a shame we don't have
It's a shame we don't have more information, but I think in the absence of actual facts, it's best not to speculate, especially in regards to anything that involves other people.
What kind of comments do you
What kind of comments do you think will be made when an incomplete story is printed? Maybe it's best not to put these kind of things up unless you have all the facts, thus eliminating speculation and rumors to start.
We can only report what we
We can only report what we have. Would you prefer not to know at all that a 16-year-board member has resigned?
Really?
< head slap >
BTW: I only heard about
BTW: I only heard about John's resignation because somebody was upset that we hadn't published anything on it.
Guess it's the old damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Lisa, you do realize that
Lisa, you do realize that when Mike Cleveland retired from the position as assessor with the town and the city that the job was advertised for in the paper right. How many people applied? Those who did, how many were qualified? You also realize that as assessor she is not allowed to be a Realtor in the town and city. As for a conflict of interest? Where is one party directly benefiting from the others position? I don't see one. There are many other examples of married or domestic partners that work for the same organization within the City, Town, County, School System. If anything these relationships are usually looked at very closely to avoid a conflict. JMO

I don't live in the town of Batavia, but after 16 years of public service that most likely brought a lot more aggravation than satisfaction with no real compensation to offset lost personal hours, at least someone should be offering a thank you to Mr. Gerace for a decade and a half of his time regardless of his reasons.
Good point Jeff. John has put
Good point Jeff. John has put a lot of time and effort into making much needed improvements in the area. The average Joe around here wouldnt get their butt off the couch to even show up to a meeting no less dedicate themselves to the cause for 16 year. Mr. Gerace, if you read this, thank you for your efforts and sacrificed time.
Someone was upset that it
Someone was upset that it wasn't reported? Wow. I'm upset now that I don't know who it was that was upset.
