Washington, D.C. – Today, Representative Kathy Hochul (D-NY26) announced that she will serve on the House Committee on Homeland Security in the 112th Congress.
“I look forward to working hard for the people of the 26th District as a Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security,” said Congresswoman Hochul. “As a Representative of a district right by the border, issues of homeland security greatly impact the people of my district and I will work tirelessly to ensure their safety.”
Congresswoman Hochul began her work immediately, meeting with Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, where the two discussed national security issues facing our nation and discussed international trade and travel across the Peace Bridge in Buffalo.
Congresswoman Hochul has already voted on issues of vital importance to our homeland security. She voted against H.R. 2017, FY 2012 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill, which makes more than a billion dollars in cuts to critical local and national security programs.
Instead of cutting funding to programs that protect Western New Yorkers, Congresswoman Hochul supported the Clarke-Higgins-Reichert-Tonko Amendment to reform the Urban Area Security Initiative so that Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse would continue to be eligible for funds that prevent, protect and safeguard these cities against terrorist attacks. Prior to the passage of this amendment, the bill would have restricted funding to only 10 cities.
Congresswoman Hochul recognizes that we must be vigilant in our efforts to protect our communities and borders against terrorists.

I finally found 27 minutes to watch the Rand Paul video, thanks Howard and it would nice if Ms. Hochul sees it too. It's long, but well worth listening to, guy makes a lot of sense. BTW you don't need to watch it, I was doing something else while listening. Unlike me or my son, he obviously listened to his father. Here's a bit more on the subject:

Kathy deserves
Kathy deserves congratulations for her selection to committee membership. WNY deserves better than a feel-good press release.
The Patriot Act remains a ripe plum for the justice department and prosecutors who for decades have vigorously battled the Constitutional protections afforded citizens charged with a crime. It took a national panic attack, a bonehead president and a few hundred members of Congress with blinders in place to accomplish the travesty AKA The Patriot Act.
The name alone is enough to induce projectile vomiting. A press release that dresses it up with bows and ribbons...

The idea of defending Palin's
The idea of defending Palin's remarks are laughable and what she said on Fox about it only digs herself in deeper.
She clearly meant -- through the "ringing the bells" part of the quote that Revere was using bells to warn the British. The journal entry makes it clear, he did not do that.
If you read his journal entry, his ride was already over when he was captured by British officers and ordered at gun point to give up information. An officer literally threatened to blow his brains out.
That isn't a "warning" in the sense of, "hey, you better watch it, the Americans are waiting for you." It's a, "I want to keep my brains in tact, thank you very much, so here's what I know."
Palin made herself look foolish with the first quote and makes herself look like a liar by defending it.

A bad joke about a Jeep Wrangler, however does not compare to attempting to revise history to match an incorrect comment. Personally, although i dislike Republicans more than I dislike Democrats (I really wish Ron Paul would leave the GOP) if the Repub's can come up with a better candidate, Obama can be beat, he's not that great. I don't know who that could be. The GOP will never get behind Paul.
The 2 main problems, in my
The 2 main problems, in my humble opinion, with Presidential elections are that to get the job today, a person has to spend more than a year going around the country telling everyone how wonderful and smart they are, must love the sound of their own voice, must have a massive ego, must have a support staff of toadys to keep them upbeat, and then make promises to thems that has the money to fund all of this. Those promises many times contradict what the candidate has said to the people, and if he/she wasn't one already they become liars. Until we get the special interests money (and that includes the media) out of the process, and convince a majority of voters to actually vote, we will have more of the same. We get the government & leaders we deserve.
