Robert VanBuren, 94 of Rochester passed away peacefully August 8, 2014 at St. Ann’s Home in Rochester. He was born July 3, 1920 in Albany to the late Cornelius (Blanche Kaplan) VanBuren. Mr. VanBuren is preceded in death by his first wife Mary Jane (Benion) VanBuren and his second wife Betty (Beaver) Hardie VanBuren.

Mr. VanBuren was a World War II Army Veteran. He retired as an Industrial Supervisor in Albany, before that he was at Attica Correctional Facility. Mr. VanBuren was a member of Our Mother of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church in Rochester, the Knights of Columbus, and loved to fish.

He is survived by children Katherine (William) Campbell; Mark (Susan), Brian (Robbie), Miles (Cindy) VanBuren; James (Betty), Robert (Janet) Hardie; Sue (Don) Townsend; Judith Hardie; Donna (H. Andrew) Fay; Nicholas (Katherine) Hardie; Mary Ellen (Chris) VanSon; William (Mary Beth) Hardie; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 AM, Monday August 11, 2014 at Sts Joachim & Anne Church 50 East Ave, Attica NY 14011. He will be laid to rest in St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Attica.

Anita D. Scott of Perry died on Thursday August 7, 2014 at her home under Hospice Care surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Warsaw, New York a daughter of Louise Ellis Parker. Anita was a graduate of Perry High School. She was a bartender at the Vet’s Club in Perry and had worked prior at Scott’s Market in Perry Center selling fruits, vegetables and flowers. She was a member of the Perry Vet’s Club and the Silver Lake Sportsman’s Club. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, especially to Myrtle Beach, and the Adirondack and Poconos Mountains. Anita enjoyed the company of her family, friends and her two grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a sister; Tammy Reed who died in 1983, her maternal grandparents; John (Doshie Amburgey) Ellis Sr. and an uncle, Thomas Ellis.

Anita is survived by a Son Brandin Scott of Perry, her Mother Louise Ellis Parker of Perry, her Fiancé: Greg McClurg of Perry, 2 Sisters: Barbara Chapman of Perry, Sandra (Bret) George of Castile, 3 Brothers: Fred (Shannon) Reed of Filmore, Eric (Trish) Carr of Yorkshire, Todd Carr of Rochester, 2 Grandchildren: Jada Rae and Jacob Cole Scott, 2 special Friends Debbie Johnston and Vicki Bradner both of Perry, along with many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends.

John "Jack" Edward Ostertag, 87, of Attica, NY, went to heaven Tuesday August 5, 2014. He was born to the late Ted and Alice Ostertag, October 21, 1926, in Attica and was married to the late Jean Zinke Ostertag. Jack and Jean had ten children: Suzanne, Jacque, Nancy, Mary, Jeanne, John, Bettie, Mark, Robin, and the late Patricia.

He was a Building Construction Engineer in Charge for New York State General Services Design & Construction Group and a Consulting Project Manager for Construction Management Companies. Jack was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army and Merchant Marines.  He was a regular at the American Legion, Moose Club and VFW. Jack was also an avid boater and fisherman. In his younger years he was a great athlete and loved bowling and golf.

Charlotte Puccio, 85 of Oakfield, passed away Wednesday (August 6, 2014) at Crossroads House in Batavia.

She was born in Medina, NY on August 11, 1928, a daughter of the late Anthony and Sophie Banazak Jablonski.

Charlotte enjoyed spending time with her family, trips to the casino and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. She was a member of St. Padre Pio Parish in Oakfield.

She was the wife of the late Frank Puccio, who passed away in 2004, mother of the late Dennis Puccio and sister of the late Laura Clark, Helen Capelli, Josie Ehrenreich and Matthew “Mitch” Jablonski.

Survivors include her children, Robert (Michelle) Puccio of Idaho, Gloria (William) Yantz of Oakfield and Ronald (Dianne) Puccio of Batavia.  Sister, Dorothy Corica of Williamsville. Brother, Edward (Carol) Jablonski of Virginia.  Also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Oakfield - Christopher Brian Skelton, age 30, of Oakfield, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at his home.

Chris was born July 18, 1984 in Batavia, a son of Brian T. Skelton of Oakfield and Linda C. (Dan Duffy) Meldrum Skelton of Rochester.

A 2002 graduate of Oakfield-Alabama High School, Chris attended the University of Rochester where he studied economics and was enrolled in the R.O.T.C. program. He was previously employed as a truck driver for Perry's Ice Cream in Akron.

Chris participated in several triathlons’ in the area and ran in many marathons. He enjoyed water skiing and camping in the Adirondacks. An avid Buffalo Bills fan, he went to several games with his cousins, Jason and James. He enjoyed going to country concerts, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle but most of all cherished his time with his son, Mattox.

Surviving along with his parents are his son, Mattox Simms of Bath; his brother, Matthew Skelton of Oakfield; paternal grandmother, Elaine (late James) Skelton of Oakfield, an uncle, Kevin (Diane) Skelton of Oakfield; an aunt, Lyn (Robert) Maute of Batavia; several cousins, including Jason (Jackie Oetinger) Skelton of Chili and James (Nicole) Skelton and their daughter, Amelia Rose Skelton of Buffalo; maternal grandparents, William (Carol) Meldrum of Palm Springs, California; uncles, Richard (Elba) Meldrum of Florida and William (Lori) Meldrum of Waterloo and an aunt, Sandra Jones of Texas.

ELSIE M. WOODWORTH (TIBERIO-ELLIS) - Age 91, formerly of Batavia, died peacefully at home on May 30, 2014 in Fort Myers, FL. She was born August 29, 1922 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Tito Tiberio & Margaret Mondo (Torcello-Tiberio), also preceded in death by her husband, Deane P. Woodworth; step-father, George J. Mondo; brother, Nicholas J. Tiberio and daughter, Sherry Woodworth-Farnsworth.

   Elsie was a loyal member of the Batavia High School Class of 1939 and was employed by New York Bell Telephone Co. (1950-1977) and was a life-time member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

   Her faith was the core of her life, as a member of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, she was active in the Altar & Rosary Society and was Director of the Catholic Youth Organization. In 1965 she received the Pro Deo Et Juventute Award from the Bishop of Buffalo for outstanding service, loyalty and devotion to youth.

   Wherever she lived, Elsie believed in service to her community. In her young adult years in Batavia, she volunteered at St. Jerome's Hospital and while living in Stafford, NY, she belonged to the Stafford Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

   She expressed her youthful spirit through dance, tennis, golf and quality time with family and friends. She was an enthusiastic supporter of her grandchildren, attending many special activities. Elsie was proud to be a devoted New York Yankee, Buffalo Bills and University of Notre Dame Football fan.

   Surviving are her loving children, John Ellis, Ann Marie Ellis, James Woodworth, Susan (James) Woodworth-Moore and Susan (James) Flagg; her legacy includes 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends.

Churchville ~ Mary G. Buchiero, age 81 of N. Main Street, passed away Sunday evening (Aug. 3, 2014) at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.

     Mary was born August 13, 1932 in Rochester, a daughter of the late Peter and Rose Ferrari DiPalermo.

     She will be remembered as a quiet and loving mother and grandmother, who enjoyed crocheting.

     She is survived by her children, Barbara (Richard) Moriarty of Churchville, Philip (Sarah) Buchiero of Rochester and Diane Buchiero of Churchville; grandchildren, Carrie Moriarty, Heather Szklarski, Richard Moriarty, Tyler Buchiero, Nicole Pagano, Damien Pagano and Mason Pagano; great-grandchildren, Jaelynn Mills, Camden Mills and Juliana Szklarski; sister, Angelina LoGuidice; brother, Santo (Terry) DiPalermo, along with many nieces and nephews.

Ralph E. Mucher Jr., 79, of Attica passed away August 2, 2014. He was born August 18, 1934 in Atlantic City, NJ to the late Ralph E. (Esther Cake) Mucher Sr.

Mr. Mucher retired as contractor of Mucher Erectors in Warsaw.  He was a member of the Attica Town Board, the Attica Lions Club, and the Attica Golf Club.  He was on the Letchworth and Alfred wrestling teams and was known for always saying “first man to take the mat.”

Ralph is survived by his sons, Ralph (Susan) Mucher III of Warsaw; Michael Mucher of Batavia; Douglas (Kristen) of East Aurora; daughters, Cari Mucher Mannillo of Rochester; Doni Mucher Reynolds of OH; Marci Mucher Rowell of Buffalo; brothers, Gilbert (Ellie) Mucher of FL; Peter (Mary) Mucher of TN; Philip (Pat) Mucher of FL; Coulson (Mimi) Mucher of NC; Martin (Jean) Mucher of Batavia; sister Esther (Brent) Bradley of TN; 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren survive along with many nieces and nephews.

Rochester / LeRoy ~ Mary L. Bell, age 74, formerly of LeRoy, passed away Saturday morning (Aug. 2, 2014) at Highland Hospital in Rochester.

     Mrs. Bell was born March 18, 1940 in Warsaw, N.Y., a daughter of the late Francis and Marjorie McGee Lakas.

     She was a loving mother and grandmother, who cherished her grandchildren.  She enjoyed

reading, painting, and spending time at the family cottage.   She also loved her cat, "Walter Anne".  Mary will also be remembered as a dedicated "voice" in the LeRoy community, having served over 31 years as a police, fire, ambulance, and highway dispatcher.

     She is survived by her children; Michael (Mia) Bell of Rochester, Susan (Alan) Drumheller of Pittsford and Gregory Bell of Rochester; her beautiful grandchildren, Katarina Bell and Ariana Bell, step-grandchildren, Lisa Drumheller and James Drumheller; a brother, Thomas Lakas of Rochester; sisters-in-law, Monica Lakas of TN, Mary Lakas of Varysburg and Elizabeth Bell of Tupper Lake, along with many nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Bell and brothers, James Lakas and John Lakas.

LeRoy ~ Stanley R. Ugorek, age 82, of South St. Rd, formerly of Mill St.,  passed away Sunday evening (Aug. 3, 2014) in the loving presence of his family.

     Mr. Ugorek was born May 2, 1932 in Albion, a son of the late Stanley and Stella Chrzan Ugorek.

     He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather, who cherished his time with his family.

     Mr. Ugorek is survived by his children, Mary Ann (Michael) Sullivan of LeRoy, Stanley Ugorek of San Diego, CA and JoAnn (David) Shaffer of Mooresville, NC; his grandchildren, Michael (Morgan) Sullivan, Lindsey (Craig) Johnson, Jacob Sullivan, Kelsey Sullivan, Danielle Shaffer and Emily Shaffer; his great-grandchildren, Holden and Harper; a brother, John (Barbara) Ugorek of Albion; sisters, Geraldine Janus of Rochester, Arlene (Earl) Burlock of Oakfield and Jeannette Ugorek of Albion, along with many nieces and nephews. 

     In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Mary Lodico Ugorek and his sister, Frances Ugorek.

     Mr. Ugorek's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Cindy and Dave of South Street Senior Care Facility for the professional and loving care they provided to their father and grandfather for over 2 years.

Mary L. Corteville, 69 of Akron, passed away Sunday (August 3, 2014) at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

She was born in Buffalo, NY on October 7, 1944, a daughter of the late Oscar and Marguerite Volk Trimm.

Mary enjoyed horses, horse racing, baseball games and was an avid card player and reader.

She was the wife of the late Clarence J. Corteville.

Survivors include her sisters, Frances (Kenneth) Hicks of Clarence and Nancy (Richard) Lappel of Akron.  Also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.

BERNARD J. GAZDA - Age 79, of Darien Center, died peacefully Wednesday July 30, 2014 at Elderwood Health Care in Cheektowaga with his loving family at his side. He was born August 20, 1934 in Buffalo, a son of the late John & Ida (Kolis) Gazda. In 2010, he was preceded in death by his son, Brian J. Gazda. He was also preceded by his siblings, Rose, Helen, Emily, Stanley, Eugenia and Richard.

   Mr. Gazda was a long time member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish in Corfu and was retired from York International in Buffalo. Bernie was actively involved in the Darien Seniors group, enjoyed traveling, spending time with his dog, Ebony and was an incredibly devoted family man.

   Surviving is his beloved wife of 58 years, Cornelia (Krygier) Gazda of Darien Center;  his beloved children, Bernard F. (Laura) Gazda of Corfu, Karen (John) Kattato of Lima and Pamela McDivitt of  Reston, Virginia; brother, Ted Gazda of Cheektowaga; sister, Alice Castiglione of FL; 6 grandchildren, Kelly & Michael Mustillo; Amanda, Allison & Connor Kattato & Evan McDivitt along with many nieces and nephews.

Lillian V. Reynolds, 97 of Cheektowaga, passed away on Thursday July 31, 2014 at Elderwood Nursing Home. She was born December 2, 1916 in Henry, WV to the late Austin (Nellie) Jack. She is preceded in death by her husband Wesley L. Reynolds, son Norman Reynolds, brother Robert Jack and sister Evelyn Krzyanowski.

Lillian worked at Warsaw Knitting Mill for many years.  She was very active in the Attica Senior Citizens group and volunteered with the American Red Cross.

She is survived by her son Roger (Margaret) Reynolds of Cheektowaga; brother Donald (Ruth) Jack of Arizona; sister Hazel (Ken) King of Great Valley; 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Jennie H. Kaczmarek, 89, of Johnsburg passed away on Wednesday July 30, 2014 at Rochester General Hospital. She was born January 14, 1925 in Buffalo to the late Bronislaus (Mary Napora) Zymowski. Jennie is preceded in death by her husband Raymond Kaczmarek; son Daniel Vincent Kaczmarek; brother Chester Zymowski and sister Sophie Muniak.

Mrs Kaczmarek was a dietary assistant at the Warsaw Hospital.  She was a member of the American Rosie The Riveter Association, Timesavers Home Bureau, AARP, Disabled American Vets, SPCA, Audubon Society. She was the Chaplain and Sunshine Lady of Tri-Town Seniors and was also an Avon Lady for 53 years.

She is survived by sons Gerard (Michelle) Kaczmarek of AZ; David (Rhonda) Kaczmarek of Castile; daughter Judith Kaczmarek of Varysburg, brothers Michael (Patricia) Zymowski of FL; John Zymowski of AL, sister Rita Piacente of FL, sister-in-law Patricia Zymowski of Bennington, grandchildren Christopher Kaczmarek; David Kaczmarek II; Amy Kaczmarek; Nicholas Kaczmarek, several great-great-grandchildren survive along with many nieces and nephews.

Eugene C. "Chick" Halsey Sr., 80, of Perry, passed away on Wednesday July 30, 2014 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. He was born April 5, 1934 in Buffalo to the late Clair (Helen White) Halsey Sr. He is preceded in death by his grandson Bruce Brick Jr. and siblings Joan Fox and Clair Halsey Jr.

Eugene served with the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a construction supervisor for the Rochester Building Trades. Eugene enjoyed fishing and woodworking and was also a devoted Democrat who had a great interest in politics.

He is survived by 5 daughters, Wendy Brick of Lakeland, Fla.; Cindy (Mark) Stokes of Chili; Jill Lapergola of Rochester; Kelly (Jeff) Valera of Petaluma, CA.; Samantha Halsey of Manhattan, 2 sons, Mark (Penny) Halsey of Spring, TX.; Eugene “Chip” Halsey of Perry, 9 grandchildren, Jenny (Dave) Brooks; Jay (Amanda) Brick; Casey Halsey; Brett (Candice) Halsey; Eric Halsey; James Halsey; Michael Stokes; Dana Stokes; and Calder Valera, 6 great grandchildren, Layla Halsey; Zoey Brick; Cameron and Nicholas Brooks and Kendall and Tyler Brick, along with 2 nephews and a niece.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday August 2nd at Glenwood Cemetery in Perry at 11:00 A.M.
