Batavia Fire and Mercy EMS are responding.

Five people taken to the hospital following two-car accident on Route 20

Five people were injured -- including all members of a family of four from Bear, Delaware -- in a two-vehicle accident on Route 20 in the Town of Bethany at 9:04 p.m. on Monday.

The accident was allegedly caused by a driver pulling onto Route 20 who failed to yield the right-of-way.

Taken to Strong Memorial Hospital was: Quratul-Ain Abbasi, 29; Mansoor H. Khan, 40; Azan M. Kahn, 4; and Mira Kahn, 6.

Abbasi, the driver of the second vehicle, suffered an abdomenal injury, as did 6-year-old Mira. Both Mansoor Kahn and 4-year-old Azan sustained facial injuries.

The driver of the first vehicle was identified as Steven W. Clouse II, 19, of 12479 Allen Road, Chaffee. He was cited for alleged failure to yield right-of-way.

Clouse was reportedly pulling onto Route 20 from West Bethany Road. After stopping, he reportedly proceeded onto Route 20 when his 2000 Buick sedan was struck by Abbasi's car, a 1999 Chevy SUV.

The SUV then traveled off the southeast corner of the intersection, struck a street sign and a telephone box. The SUV then overturned and came to rest off the roadway on the southeast corner of the intersection.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Kevin McCarthy.

Elba man dies of injuries from motorcycle accident last week

A motorcyclist who apparently lost control of his bike on Swamp Road in Byron last Wednesday has died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.

Thomas Legler, 49, of North Byron Road, Elba, died at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Legler was reportedly wearing a helmet, but it was not a Department of Transportation-approved safety helmet.

Deputies investigating the accident concluded that speed was a factor, but there is no evidence Legler was drinking prior to the accident.

Driver cited for alleged DWI following rear-end accident

A driver who reportedly rear-ended another car on Route 19 in Le Roy at 10:14 p.m. on Saturday was cited for DWI.

The driver of the other vehicle was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with a back injury.

Michael S. Dranichak, 47, of 8692 Lake Road, Le Roy, was stopped in the northbound lane of Route 19, just north of West Bergen Road, when his 1993 Ford SUV was struck from behind by a car reportedly driven by Samual Avila-Rijo, 37, of 830 Affinity Road, Rochester.

Avila-Rijo was reportedly driving a 1998 Kia. He was reportedly uninjured in the accident.

There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Deputy Bradly D. Mazur investigated the accident.

Car hits tree after driver tries to avoid running over a cat

A driver on Bank Street Road in Batavia who tried to avoid striking a cat in the roadway Saturday wound up running into a tree instead.

The driver, Justin T. Barrett, 18, of 6855 Pauline St., Byron, was treated at the scene for a minor shoulder injury.

Barrett was headed northbound on Bank Street Road at 6:10 p.m. when he reportedly swerved to avoid the cat. He said he lost control of his 2004 Ford four-door sedan in the gravel shoulder after his car struck a mailbox at 7834 Bank Street Road. The car continued northbound on the shoulder, turning sideways, until it struck a tree.

There were no passengers in the car.

Drivers cited in two-vehicle accident that blocked Route 5 on Saturday

Traffic tickets were issued to both drivers involved in a two-car, minor-injury accident on Route 5 in Le Roy on Saturday at 3:16 p.m.

One driver is accused of failing to yield right-of-way while the other driver was cited for not properly restraining his children in child-safety seats.

The children, ages 2 and 5, were uninjured.

The accident blocked Route 5 in both directions for nearly a half-hour.

Timothy J. Beaumont, 44, of 103 W. Main St., Le Roy, reportedly drove his 2008 Toyota pick-up from a driveway onto Route 5 just west of the intersection with East Bethany-Le Roy Road.

Jason D. Burk, 36, of 9 North St., Apt. 1, Le Roy, was driving a 1995 Mitsubishi two-door sedan westbound on Route 5 when the car struck Beaumont's pick-up.

Burk reportedly suffered a minor burn on his elbow and was treated at the scene. Also treated at the scene for a minor burn on her face was Laurie J. Brady, 40.

Beaumont had no passengers.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Bradley D. Mazur.

Route 5 in Le Roy blocked by minor injury accident

First responders are requesting an immediate response of tow trucks to an accident on Route 5 at East Bethany-Leroy Road in Le Roy.

The cars involved are blocking traffic in both directions.

No serious injuries were reported as a result of the accident.

UPDATE 3:54 p.m.: Route 5 reopened.

Tractor trailer partially blocking Route 20 in Alexander

A tractor trailer is on its side on Route 20 just west of Route 98 in Alexander.

Deputy on scene says, "If any injury, very minor."

UPDATE: A heavy wrecker has been requested. The trailer reportedly has about 5,000 lbs of cargo.

UPDATE 8:30 p.m.: The trailer is just now upright on the road.

UPDATE: Route 20 reopened about 8:55 p.m.

Head-on collision reported on East Main Street, in front of Tully's

A head-on collision, with minor injuries, has been reported in front of Tully's on East Main Street.

Engine 12 and Mercy EMS are responding.

UPDATE 4:10 p.m.: I drove by. Nothing to see. Neither car had much damaged and were being driven to a side street.

Driver flown to hospital following rollover accident in Oakfield

Charges are pending against a driver involved in a one-car rollover accident that sent him to the hospital via Mercy Flight.

Harry L. Flatt, 64, of 3531 Fruit Ave., Medina, was driving on Lewiston Road north of Fisher Road in the Town of Oakfield on Friday at 10:41 p.m. when he apparently lost control of his car.

His car left the road on the east shoulder and then went into a ditch. Flatt apparently tried to steer back onto the roadway. The car struck a large concrete utility block, which caused the car to overturn.

No other information is available at this time. The nature of the pending charges were not specified in the Sheriff's Office press release.

Batavia man injured in rollover accident Monday morning

A Batavia man is in satisfactory condition following a single-car, rollover accident on Route 98 in Alexander at 12:22 a.m. Monday.

David E. Stupp, 39, of 8052 North Bennett Heights, Batavia, suffered a fractured neck in the accident.

Stupp was reportedly driving northbound on Route 98 when his 2004 Mercedes-Benz convertible left the east shoulder. The car struck a ditch in a driveway culvert and overturned, coming to rest facing south.

No other people were involved in the accident.

Stupp was cited for DWI, unsafe lane change, speeding and refusal to submit to a breath test.

Car into pole on Ellicott Street Road in Pavilion

A car has run into a utility pole at 6442 Ellicott Street Road, Pavilion.

Live wires are down, and the pole is down on top of the car. No word on injuries yet.

Southbound traffic is being halted.

UPDATE 1:31 p.m.: Apparently, three people were in the car. They are now in a swimming pool near the accident scene trying to wash the glass off themselves. EMS: "We've got three victims here. They are in the pool. They appear OK other than glass."

UPDATE 2:17 p.m.: Route 63 has been reopened.

Pole sheared off on Ledge Road, but no vehicle found

A caller to the dispatch center reports that a telephone pole has been sheared off on Ledge Road, just east of 77, in Alabama.

"It appears to be a motor vehicle accident, but no vehicle around," according to dispatch.

Pole and wires are down on the ground.  The pole is in three different pieces.

There was a suggestion from a responder that the pole down is a result of an accident last night.

UPDATE: Alabama Fire Chief: "This is the same pole from Friday night, so I'm clear."  Notifications have already been made.

Two people injured in accident on Oak Orchard Road

A driver at the intersection of North Byron Road and Oak Orchard Road thought it was a four-way stop yesterday, so she proceeded across Oak Orchard Road, where her car was struck by a southbound car.

Two people suffered minor injuries in the accident. Both were transported to UMMC.

Eleanor M. Hart, 75, of 4991 Watson Road, Elba, was the driver of the second car, the one southbound on Oak Orchard. She suffered a neck injury.

One of her passengers, Burton E. Hart, 75, suffered a hip/upper leg injury.

The driver of the first vehicle, Lorraine J. Spotts, 50, of 4415 Hogmire, Avon, was uninjured in the crash.

Hart had two other passengers in her car and neither were injured: Frank Neindorf, 78, and Monica Neindorf, 72.

The accident occurred at 5:21 p.m. yesterday.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Tim Wescott.

Minor injuries in one-car accident at Oak Orchard and North Byron roads

Emergency crews from Elba and Stafford are responding to a single-vehicle motor vehicle accident at Oak Orchard and North Byron roads.

There are injuries and Mercy Flight is being called in, to land at the Stafford fire hall.

There were no serious injuries in the accident.

Child killed in rollover accident in Barre

UPDATE, 10 a.m. Saturday.

An 8-year-old girl was killed in a one-vehicle rollover accident Friday night after the driver swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway.

Abagail Buzard, who was ejected from the vehicle, was pronounced dead at UMMC.

The SUV was driven by Courtney Buzard, 17, of Albion.

Initial reports:

Elba Rescue is responding to a rollover accident in Orleans County in which three people are reportedly injured and a baby is missing.

The single-vehicle accident is reportedly near Spoils Bank Road off Oak Orchard Road (Old Route 98).

UPDATE: There is more than one incident going on. I believe two ambulances initially responded and I believe Mercy 3 is enroute. (There's a concert at Darien Lake tonight which is also contributing to a lot of radio traffic.)

UPDATE: Three Genesee County ambulances responded, and possibly one from Orleans County. One ambulance took an 8-year-old to UMMC. Another ambulance took a 3-year-old and a father to Strong. A mother and another child were taken to Lakeside. No Mercy Flight transport reported.

Sealer spilled on Junction Road in Pavilion

I didn't catch the initial call, but apparently there was an accident this morning around the 6800 block of Junction Road in Pavilion involving a sealer truck.

Sealer and yellow paint were apparently spilled on the roadway.

The highway superintendent is enroute to investigate the scene. The two vehicles involved have been towed away.

Rollover accident on Saile Drive by airport

One car is on its side following a two-vehicle accident on Saile Drive in front of the Genesee County Airport in Batavia.

There is no entrapment in either car. There are two people injured. No fire.
