Sylvia Traxler is the Le Royan of the Year for 2017

Sylvia Traxler has been named the 49th Le Royan of the Year.
  • Sylvia lovingly raised a family of five children and has five grandchildren;
  • She is a member of the Presbyterian Church for over 60 years; helps with fundraising projects for the church;
  • She has volunteered for over 30 years with the Le Roy Ambulance Service, serving in various positions including base officer, driver, and medic, volunteering virtually every Monday evening;
  • Sylvia is a member of the Board of Directors and serves as Treasurer of the Le Roy Pantry and Help Fund and continues to serve weekly maintaining inventory, receiving shipments and distributing foodstuff to those in need;
  • Sylvia volunteers with the American Red Cross for Drives at the American Legion and the county Mega Drive;
  • She is an active member of the Pavilion Young at Heart Seniors serving as the Greeter and Vice President; she is also the contact for the Genesee County Office of the Aging.

American Legion in Le Roy hosting three-day 'Help Our Heroes' fundraiser

As part of a three-day event to raise money to assist veterans, the American Legion Post #576 is hosting a four-man bowling tournament at Legion Lanes, 53 W. Main St., Le Roy.

The fundraiser began on Friday night and continues today and Sunday with squads at noon and 3 p.m. -- and will also feature a chicken BBQ this afternoon, and a chance auction and a raffle through Sunday.

Last year, the event, now in its third year, raised $1,800 for the VA and the Disabled Veterans of America. This year, said Scott O'Neill, the post hopes to raise more than $2,000.

It's not too late to enter -- openings are available -- but if you're unable to make the event, donations can be mailed to:

Nominations sought for 48th annual 'LeRoyan of the Year' award

The American Legion Post 576 Le Roy is seeking nominations for the 48th annual LeRoyan of the Year award. Deadline is Aug. 26th.

The Botts Fiorito Legion Post is asking that each club, church, society and organization submit an applicant to be considered as the 2016 Le Royan of the Year.
The Le Royan Award Program honors a man, woman or child who exemplifies: 

1.  The true spirit of Americanism, its ideals, love of flag and country regardless of race, color or creed. 

2.  Good citizenship by carrying out these principles, often beyond that expected of him or her.

3.  Service to the community, signified by excellence in life of purpose and accomplishments.

Applications for the award can be picked up at the American Legion Home.

American Legion Post 576 seeks nominees for Le Royan of the Year

Le Roy American Legion Post 576 is asking that each club, church, society organization or individual submit a nominee to be considered as the 2012 Le Royan of the Year Award. Deadline is Aug. 22.

In Le Roy we have many outstanding events. It takes volunteers, hardworking individuals, many of them working behind the scenes that make each and every event a success.

The award recognizes people who demonstrate the following qualities:

  • A man or woman who exemplifies the true spirit of Americanism, its ideals, love of flag and country, regardless of race, color or creed.
  • Good citizenship by carrying out these principles, often beyond what is expected.
  • Service to the community, signified by excellence in life of purpose and accomplishments.
