ATV accident reported in East Pembroke

An ATV accident with multiple people injured is reported in the area of 2069 Main Road, East Pembroke.

East Pembroke fire and Mercy EMS dispatched.

Three or four people are injured, with a possible serious injury.

Mercy Flight being put on standby.

UPDATE 11:21 p.m.: Town of Batavia fire requested to the scene to set up a landing zone for Mercy Flight at Pembroke Primary School.

UPDATE 12:45 a.m.: There are two confirmed injuries. A female passenger was transported to ECMC by Mercy Flight. A driver was taken to ECMC by Mercy EMS. Sgt. Eric Seppala said there may have been a second ATV involved in the accident. The second ATV left the scene prior to law enforcement arriving. It's unknown if anybody on that ATV was injured. It's unclear at this point what happened, though it appears the ATVs were on the roadway. The investigation is continuing. Anybody with information that may assist in the investigation are asked to call the Sheriff's Office at (585) 343-5000. 

UPDATE Monday morning: A press release from the Sheriff's Office states that two four-wheel ATVs collided. Both ATVs had a driver and passenger. The driver and passenger of the second ATV were taken by private vehicle to UMMC and later transfered to ECMC for treatment. No names were released. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

Mud races in East Pembroke this Sunday

The East Pembroke Mud Races are on a Sunday this year -- this Sunday.

Registration starts at 10 a.m. The first race is 12:30 p.m.

Registration fees: $15 per class, $5 for 11 and under, $5 for each additional class and racers still pay admission. 

Admission is $10, with 11 and under free. Pit admission is $12.

You can enter a raffle to win the four-wheeler shown above.

Rollover accident on westbound Thruway

A one-vehicle rollover accident is reported on the westbound Thruway at mile marker 396. East Pembroke fire and Mercy medics are responding.

UPDATE 3:30 p.m.: There are reports of entrapment.

UPDATE 3:39 p.m.: Mercy Flight #7 is called to the scene -- availability is checked.

UPDATE 3:44 p.m.: Town of Batavia Engine 24 just arrived, too.

UPDATE 3:53: Two ambulances will be needed.

UPDATE 4:21 p.m.: Three children are being transported to Women & Children's Hospital in Buffalo. The assignment is back in service.

East Pembroke voters approve new fire hall for their volunteers

Voters in the East Pembroke Fire District today approved on a 167-45 vote the construction of a new fire hall for their community.

The vote authorizes the district to proceed with the $3 million project, which will provide volunteer firefighters with a new 11,128 square-foot facility.

The building will contain not only more room for existing fire trucks, but rooms for hose drying, decontamination and air packs. 

As a result of the vote, property owners in the district will see their tax assessment increase from the current $1.10 per $1,000 of assessed value to a maximum of $1.98.

The new hall will replace an aging and structurally deficient building that has seen its better days.

Mercy Flight headed to Area 51 after teen loses consciousness in ATV accident

A 16-year-old male lost consciousness for a little over a minute after an ATV accident on the track at Area 51. The boy's helmet came off, but no mention of whether this occured before or after impact. He is coming to consciousness. Mercy Flight is being dispatched to the scene. East Pembroke Fire Department and Mercy medics are also responding.

UPDATE 1:52 p.m.: Mercy Flight is airborne and headed to ECMC.

UPDATE 1:54 p.m.: Responders are back in service.

GCC announces Spring semester President's List honorees

Tractor-trailer's cab ablaze on Alleghany Road by the Thruway toll booth

A fully involved cab fire is reported on a tractor-trailer at 8480 Alleghany Road, near or at the Thruway on/off ramp. Pembroke and Indian Falls fire departments are responding along with mutual aid from Corfu and East Pembroke.

UPDATE 7:32 p.m.: Alabama's tanker is requested mutual aid to the scene.

UPDATE 7:57 p.m.: Pembroke command calls for a pallet of absorbent material.

Tree and power lines on fire on Genesee Street

A tree and power lines are reportedly on fire at 2378 Genesee St. East Pembroke Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 6:25 p.m.: National Grid is being contacted.

UPDATE 6:27 p.m.: A responder says there are three primary lines down across the roadway, two of which are covered by a large tree limb. There is a confirmed power outage in the immediate area as a result. National Grid is aware but no ETA given.

UPDATE 6:30 p.m.: Only eastbound traffic will be allowed to continue traveling.

UPDATE 7:48 p.m.: East Pembroke is back in service. National Grid is on scene fixing the problem.

Car wreck with injuries on Main Road, East Pembroke

A motor-vehicle accident with injuries is reported at 2033 Main Road in Pembroke. East Pembroke and Indian Falls fire deparments are responding along with two Mercy medic units.

UPDATE 10:18 a.m.: A 31-year-old male complaining of back pain is being taken to UMMC. The assignment is back in service.

A car fire is reported on the westbound Thruway at mile marker 394. East Pembroke Fire Department is responding along with mutual aid from Oakfield and Indian Falls. Mercy medics are also responding. It's unknown if there are injuries.

UPDATE 5:50 p.m.: East Pembroke command reports the vehicle is unoccupied. Oakfield is put back in service.

UPDATE 5:55 p.m.: Fire knocked down. Mercy medics are back in service.

Fire heavily damages barn on Brown Road, Corfu

The initial call came in as a chimney fire, but when East Pembroke Fire Chief Don Newton first got on scene he could see it was more than just the chimney on fire. Nearly the entire back wall of the barn at 2689 Brown Road, Corfu, was on fire.

He immediately called for a second alarm.

Firefighters were initially hampered by a lack of water, so Newton called on more tankers from neighboring departments.

But even facing these difficulties, the volunteer firefighters were able to save much of the structure and most of the contents, including a 40-foot yacht.

Besides East Pembroke, the departments responding were Corfu, Pembroke, Indian Falls, Town of Batavia, Alexander and Darien.

Mercy EMS also responded.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.

No injuries reported in rollover accident on Thruway near Kelsey Road bridge

A vehicle, possibly a tractor-trailer, has reportedly rolled over on the Thruway near the Kelsey Road bridge. There are no injuries reported.

The mile marker is reported as 393.4.

East Pembroke fire was originally dispatched, but the accident has been determined to be in the Town of Batavia's district, so that department is being dispatched.

UPDATE 10:32 a.m.: Mercy medics confirm no injuries. State troopers on scene indicate a fire department response is not required. East Pembroke chief already well in route is continuing to confirm.

Car fire on Indian Falls Road

A vehicle is on fire at 8419 Indian Falls Road. East Pembroke Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 1:56 p.m.: East Pembroke commands reports the fire is under control.

Garage fire quickly knocked down on Batavia Oakfield Town Line Road

A garage fire was quickly knocked down within the last half hour at 2999 Batavia Oakfield Town Line Road. Oakfield fire responded, along with mutual aid from Town of Batavia and East Pembroke, and Alabama had a crew stand by in Oakfield's quarters. A portion of the roadway for eastbound traffic was also closed.

UPDATE 3:30 p.m.: All responders are back in service.

Fire in apartment over garage on Route 5, now out

Fire police are shutting down all westbound traffic on Route 5 at Lake Road to accommodate emergency traffic following a structure fire in the 5000 block of Main Road, Pembroke. It was a fire in an apartment over a garage which is now out. A code enforcement officer is requested to the scene. East Pembroke and Pembroke fire are among the responders.

UPDATE 1:20 p.m.: Corfu Fire Chief Brian Schollard told Alecia Kaus at the scene that when firefighters arrived they saw smoke and flames coming from a second-story window above the garage. The structure is a single-family home with two separate sides, above a garage. Two people were inside at the time, a mother and her son. One was watching TV and the other was sleeping. They were able to exit the building safely. The fire started in a bedroom closet. The right side is uninhabitable. The power is off and if it can be restored, the occupants plan to stay in the left side. But that remains unknown at this point. Route 5 was closed for a couple of hours and seven fire departments responded to the scene -- Corfu, Pembroke, East Pembroke, Indian Falls, Alabama, Darien, as well as Akron. A Crittenden crew stood by in their quarters.

TA Travel Center evacuated, smell of natural gas reported

The TA Travel Center is being evacuated because the smell of natural gas is reported in the building. Pembroke and Indian Falls fire departments are responding, along with mutual aid from East Pembroke. The travel center is located at 8420 Alleghany Road in Corfu.

UPDATE 6:02 a.m.: A chief reports no smell of natural gas in the kitchen. The building has not been evacuated. Waiting for East Pembroke's meter. 

UPDATE 6:14 a.m.: Pilots out on a range. Relit. No readings on the meter. Engines back in service. East Pembrokes chief back in service. 

Car wreck with injuries at West Main Street Road and Kelsey Road

A motor-vehicle accident with injuries is reported at West Main Street Road and Kelsey Road in the Town of Batavia. East Pembroke and Indian Falls fire departments and Mercy medics are responding, with two ambulances. One person has a back injury and three others have minor injuries, according to a medic at the scene. The vehicles are blocking traffic.

UPDATE 10:39 a.m.: A third ambulance is requested.

UPDATE 10:58 a.m.: Three patients are being taken to UMMC. They are an 81-year-old male who was a back seat passenger and he has a four-inch cut on the back of his head, a 65-year-old female with unspecified injuries, and an 82-year-old female with chest pain.

UPDATE 11:10 a.m.: The East Pembroke assignment is back in service.
