Airstream trailer fire on westbound Thruway, East Pembroke responding

An Airstream travel trailer is reportedly on fire on the westbound Thruway near mile marker 397.0. East Pembroke Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 3 p.m.: The fire is "going pretty good." According to caller reports, the location is closer to 392.2, which is in Town of Batavia's district. All manpower from East Pembroke is called in along with units from Town of Batavia.

UPDATE 3:03 p.m.: Traffic is backed up to Kelsey Road. The trailer fire appears to be fully involved. The vehicle is disconnected from the trailer and both are roadside. There are still conflicting reports as to the location, now said to be by mile marker 396. It's determined to be in East Pembroke's district, which will therefore be in command.

UPDATE 3:08 p.m.: Firefighting equipment is not yet on scene. The trailer is probably going to be a total loss, according to fire command. Traffic is snarled.

UPDATE 4:16 p.m.: The East Pembroke / Town of Batavia assignment is back in service.

Large mulch pile smoldering on Park Road

A large mulch pile is smoldering on city property north of the Sheriff's Office, which is located at 165 Park Road. City fire is on scene.

UPDATE 6:23 p.m.: A firefighter aboard Engine 11 says "We're going to call it a steaming pile of mulch. We're returning to service."

Le Roy fire responding to report of smoke in the residence on Platt Avenue

Smoke is reported in the residence at 24 Platt Ave., Le Roy.

UPDATE 12:52 p.m.: The smoke is related to some sort of sewer work going on in the village. Le Roy fire standing down. A Le Roy chief informs dispatchers, "we may have a lot more of these in the coming weeks."

UPDATE 2:02 p.m.: The same kind of situation may be responsible for a call about smoke in the residence at 7 Elm St. Le Roy fire is asked to stand by in quarters until the chief confirms it.

UPDATE 2:09 p.m.: The chief confirmed this incident is also due to the ongoing sewer work. The Le Roy assignment is back in service.

Trailer fire reported at Lei-Ti Campgrounds, Bethany

A trailer fire is reported at Lei-Ti Campgrounds, at 9979 Francis Road, Bethany.

Bethany and Town of Batavia fire departments responding.

UPDATE 7:38 p.m.: A chief responding can see smoke. Alexander's tanker requested to the scene. The fire is in the back in the "overflow" area.

UPDATE 8:10 p.m.: The fire is out.

UPDATE: The trailer was a 30-foot, fifth-wheel travel trailer that had sat unoccupied for about two years. The cause of the fire is not yet determined.

House on fire on East Bethany - Le Roy Road

A working house fire is reported at 6908 East Bethany - Le Roy Road. Le Roy and Pavilion fire departments are responding. Stafford is asked to stand by in their hall. Town of Batavia fire is called to shut down traffic at Route 63 and East Bethany - Le Roy Road.

UPDATE 8:08 p.m.: Stafford is called to the scene.

UPDATE 8:18 p.m.: After calling for assistance from York, Caledonia and Bergen, with a standby from Mumford, command tells responders on the road to back it down. The fire appears to be contained to a corner of the structure. They have accessed the attic and are ventilating it.

UPDATE 8:23 p.m.: There is residual heat but no active fire. York and Caledonia are told to go back in service. Bergen can continue to the scene non-emergency.

UPDATE 9 p.m.: Le Roy and Pavilion are back in service along with other responders. The fire is out. The roads are reopened.

UPDATE (by Howard): A quick response by volunteer firefighters helped contain the fire to the southeast corner of the house. The cause is undetermined at this time. A resident was fighting the fire with a garden hose when Le Roy firefighters arrived on scene. There was some smoke extension into the attic. The property is owned by Peter Paliani.

Truck on fire on westbound I-490

A truck fire is reported on the westbound I-490 near mile marker 2.8. Le Roy Fire Department is responding. The occupants are out of the vehicle.

UPDATE 3:08 p.m.: The scene is close to a small body of water near that mile marker, which is actually in Bergen's fire district. Le Roy is put back in service and Bergen has command. A witness indicated the fire was in the back of a pickup and that the occupants "were seen running from the scene." A Sheriff's deputy is also responding.

UPDATE 3:18 p.m.: Bergen command reports the truck has a blown transmission and that the fire department is not needed. The assignment is back in service.

Porch fire reported on East Main Street, Batavia

A passerby reports seeing a resident at 693 E. Main St., Batavia, trying to put out a porch fire with either a garden hose or a pan of water.

City fire responding.

The location is just within city limits. A first responder reports the fire is out, but smoldering.

UPDATE 11:31 p.m.: Fire is out. Ventilating.

Down wire sparks cornfield fire, traffic tied up on Route 19 at Wyoming County line

A downed power line appears to have sparked a fire in a cornfield in the area of 637 Pavilion Warsaw Road, Town of Covington.

That's in Pavilion's fire district and Pavilion fire is on scene.

Dispatchers have received multiple calls about the fire and a chief said people keep stopping on the road to check on the fire.

Southbound Route 19 is closed and the Pavilion chief has requested that Wyoming fire close northbound Route 19.

National Grid is responding to the scene.

UPDATE 8:36 p.m.: Pavilion is now dispatched to a possible house fire at 550 Crossman Road, Town of Covington. The house was struck by lightning. The location is within Pavilion's fire district.

UPDATE 8:40 p.m. The house will be checked with a thermal camera. The residents are not entirely sure if the house was struck. There was a big bang and then the power went out.

Overnight fire destroys barn on Bennett Road, Darien

By the time firefighters got the call at 2:28 a.m., a barn filled with hay at 2311 Bennett Road, Darien, was fully engulfed in flames.

At 9 a.m., firefighters were still on scene tending to smoldering hay bales with potentially hours of work still ahead of them.

A few firefighters who had been up practically all night had to leave for their day jobs.

Responding to the fire with Darien were East Pembroke, Indian Falls, Corfu and Alexander. Crittenden filled in at Corfu's hall and Alden filled in for Darien.

Water was drawn from a pond on Charlie Miller's property at Ellinwood and Brown roads.

The barn property is owned by Miller's Sonshine Acres, Inc.

The barn, of course, was a total loss, but firefighters said that was apparent from the moment they rolled up on scene. From that point, it was just a matter of knocking down the flames.

Golf cart on fire at College Village

A golf cart is reportedly on fire in the parking lot at College Village, located at 8170 Batavia-Stafford Town Line Road. Town of Batavia Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 8:07 p.m.: Firefighters are on scene and report the golf cart is fully involved in flames.

UPDATE 8:10 p.m.: The fire is out.

Grass fire off westbound Thruway, East Pembroke responding

A grass fire is reported by a state trooper near mile marker 398.6 on the westbound Thruway. East Pembroke Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 5:16 p.m.: Pembroke Fire Department is also responding. Firefighters are told to use caution upon approach because there's a disabled vehicle on the Thruway near the grass fire. Traffic is backed up in both lanes.

UPDATE 5:18 p.m.: Pembroke fire chief is on Indian Falls Road and can see the blaze. He says there's a road running next to a corn field and it's possible trucks could go down it to reach the fire. They are going to try that approach and other responders already on the Thruway will continue to the mile marker.

UPDATE 5:28 p.m.: Pembroke command reports the fire is out.

Small car fire in garage, now under control, reported on East Main, Corfu

A small car fire inside a garage is reported at 59 E. Main St. in Corfu. It has not spread to the structure and is under control. Corfu Fire Department is responding, along with mutual aid from Darien and Indian Falls.

The location is between Lawrence Avenue and Meadowbrook Terrace.

UPDATE 8:40 a.m.: Fire is out; vehicle is cooled down; smoke is gone. Mutual aid companies put back in service.

UPDATE 8:43 a.m.: Some Corfu responders are put back in service.

UPDATE 8:55 a.m.: Corfu command puts the assignment back in service.

 

Car fire on Meadville Road, Alabama

A car fire is reported near 6751 Meadville Road. Alabama Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 3:14 p.m.: The car fire is out. Alabama is back in quarters.

Car fire on Batavia Oakfield TL Road

A fully involved car fire is reported in the area of 3137 Batavia Oakfield Town Line Road. Oakfield Fire Department is responding. It's between two houses, but "well away from the structures."

UPDATE 3:13 p.m.: Oakfield Fire Police are asked to shut down traffic at Town Line Road, west of South Pearl Road. Alabama Fire Police are asked to shut down traffic at Town Line and Macomber roads.

UPDATE 3:19 p.m.: Fire police are also going to stop traffic at Town Line and Hutton roads. A tanker is requested to the scene.

UPDATE 3:25 p.m.: The car fire is knocked down.

UPDATE 3:27 p.m.: Oakfield command says the road closures will remain in place until further notice.

UPDATE 4:06 p.m.: All units back in service. Road reopened.

Residential fire reported on Council House Road on the reservation

A fire is reported in a residence at 380 Council House Road on the Tonawanda Indian Reservation. Alabama Fire Department is responding along with mutual aid from Indian Falls and Oakfield.

UPDATE 6 a.m.: Alabama command puts Indian Falls and Oakfield back in service and orders Alabama to continue in non-emergency mode.

UPDATE 6:09 a.m.: Alabama command puts two responding Alabama units back in service.

Barn fire on Sumner Road in Darien

The homeowner of property at 2044 Sumner Road reports the barn is on fire. Darien Fire Department is responding along with mutual aid from Corfu and Alexander. The location is between Harper and Walker roads, at the bottom of a hill. There is a truck inside the barn, according to the homeowner, but no hay or animals. Firefighters are told there is a creek to draw water from across from the property.

UPDATE 10:26 a.m.: The blaze is said "to be going pretty good."

UPDATE 10:37 a.m.: "We've pretty well got it knocked down." Equipment at the scene will suffice; those still heading to barn are told to proceed non-emergency.

UPDATE 10:40 a.m.: The barn fire is knocked down and they are starting overhaul.

UPDATE 10:57 a.m.: The fire is out and firefighters are picking up their equipment and preparing to leave.

UPDATE 11:09 a.m.: The assignment is back in service.

RV reportedly on fire on Thruway

An RV is reportedly on fire in the area of mile marker 387 in the westbound lanes of the Thruway.

Town of Batavia fire dispatched.

The operator of the RV called in the fire and said they are towing a vehicle and there are five dogs inside the RV.

UPDATE 9:10 p.m.: A trooper on scene reports all dogs are out safely. The RV is not engulfed. Only wires are burning.

Possible house fire reported off Route 33, south of Route 19, Bergen

A possible house fire is reported off Route 33, just south of Route 19. Bergen fire is responding.

UPDATE 8:40 p.m.: A call back reports that the fire appears to be a controlled burn at 7062 Route 19. The fire department is continuing to confirm.
