Possible smoke coming from the Verizon building on the Jackson Street side

Batavia PD has requested city fire to respond to the Jackson Street side of the Verizon building, 22 Center St., for possible smoke coming from the building.

UPDATE 12:11 p.m.: Broken water line on the roof.

UPDATE 1:10 p.m.: A Verizon rep has arrived to secure the building and the city assignment is back in service.

UPDATE: There was concern about how long it would take for a Verizon rep to respond so a DPW crew repaired the leak. The water was spraying onto the former Mortellaro building.

'Overloaded fireplace leaking fire' on Roanoke Road, Stafford

An overloaded fireplace is reportedly "leaking fire" at 9767 Roanoke Road, Stafford.

Stafford fire is responding. York fire is responding, and also filling in for Le Roy at Le Roy's fire hall, as well as any other available Le Roy personnel (Le Roy held its annual awards and installation dinner tonight).

UPDATE 10:54 p.m.: Chief on scene reports fire contained to the fire box.

UPDATE 11:05 p.m.: Fire is out. Ventilating.

UPDATE 11:36 p.m.: Stafford and York back in service. York returning to Le Roy's hall for standby duty.

Transformer on fire on Pine Hollow Drive, Batavia

A transformer is reportedly on fire and electrical wires are arcing at 11 Pine Hollow Drive. Town of Batavia Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 6:58 p.m.: The chief says Engine 24 can return in service and he asks that National Grid be contacted. The pole number is 5201 and there is presently "nothing showing" and the residences of 10 and 11 Pine Hollow Drive have no power outage.

UPDATE 7:03 p.m.: The Town of Batavia assignment is back in service. National Grid was notified but provided no ETA.

Large structure fire on West Bergen Road

A large structure fire is reported at 8251 W. Bergen Road. It's next to a garage. Le Roy fire and ambulance are responding along with mutual aid from Bergen. Pavilion and Stafford fire departments are requested to send an engine to stand by in Le Roy's fire hall. The location is on the curve between Randall and Selden roads.

UPDATE 1:52 p.m.: Fire police are requested to shut down that portion of West Bergen Road.

UPDATE 1:57 p.m.: Pavilion is now requested to stand by in its own quarters.

UPDATE 2:05 p.m.: Pavilion is called to the scene in emergency mode. A thermal imaging camera will be used to check for heat in the garage.

UPDATE 2:12 p.m.: EMTs are asked to check the well-being of a volunteer firefighter.

UPDATE 2:16 p.m.: A deputy is requested to the scene, possibly to deal with bystanders. Earlier, command asked that they told to back away from the scene. When Bergen is through with its task, the crew can go back in service.

UPDATE 2:30 p.m.: The fire is out and they are breaking down their equipment and preparing to go back in service.

Structure fire on Skye Road on the Tonawanda reservation

A structure fire is reported next to 218 Skye Road on the Tonawanda Indian Reservation. The location is between Council House Road and the dead end. Alabama Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding and mutual aid is requested from Akron.

UPDATE 3:51 a.m.: House-trailer fire in the woods. Fully involved with propane tanks nearby. All occupants are accounted for.

UPDATE 3:53 a.m.: Indian Falls Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 3:55 a.m.: Command says all units can back it down. "This thing's just about on the ground."

UPDATE 4:02 a.m.: Akron is asked to get water from a source at Jan's Smoke Shop and to have its tanker proceed into the scene. The family which lived in the trailer has been living at a different residence and no members were in the trailer at the time the fire started.

UPDATE 4:12 a.m.: Pembroke Fire Department is on location.

UPDATE 5:27 a.m.: The fire has been out for awhile and all responders are back in service.

Working house fire on Bloomingdale Road in Alabama

A working house fire has been reported on Bloomingdale Road near Ackerson Road.

Flames showing in second story. Second alarm.

All people accounted for in the house.

Alabama Fire Department responding.

On my way to the scene.

UPDATE 9:15 a.m.: Bill Schutt, assistant fire chief for the Town of Alabama Fire Department, says when crews arrived on scene the homeowner was on the roof in his bare feet trying to push the chimney away from the house.  

The homeowner was later transported to an area hospital with burns to his legs. According to the homeowner's statements, the fire started in the chimney.

The fire then quickly spread to the second story and got out of control with help from the high winds. Fire crews also ran out of water at the scene several times. Tankers hauled in water from ponds that were quite a distance from the fire.

About 12 companies helped fight the fire. Several were called in from Erie and Orleans counties due to the amount of local departments already out on calls for trees and wires down.

The home is a total loss.Firefighters will be on scene for some time to get it under control.

UPDATE 10:41 a.m.: Red Cross has been called in to help the two adults that live in the home.

Mercy medic called non-emergency to the scene for a firefighter with a minor injury.

Grass or rubbish fire at transfer station in LeRoy

There has been a report of a grass or rubbish fire at the rear of the transfer station on Circular Hill Road in the Town of Le Roy.

Le Roy fire is responding.

UPDATE 12:57 p.m.: LeRoy Fire is on location and keeping the assignment to what is on scene putting all others back in service.

UPDATE 1 p.m.: Le Roy has extinguished the fire and is back in service.

Possible house fire in Darien

A passerby has called dispatch reporting smoke coming from the front of a residence on Route 77 near McGregor Road.

Darien Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 3:13 p.m.: Darien fire unable to find any fire in that area. Some of the houses do not have numbers on them, according to one firefighter. Units coming non-emergency and mutual aid from Alden can cancel.

UPDATE 3:16 p.m.: Darien assignment is back in service.

Fully involved tractor-trailer fire on Thruway

A fully involved tractor-trailer fire has been reported on the New York State Thruway near mile post marker 396.1 eastbound.

East Pembroke has called for help from Pembroke, Indian Falls, Oakfield and the Town of Batavia fire departments.

The driver is not sure what he is hauling.

UPDATE 10:02 p.m.: All mutual aid companies told to stand down. Fire is out. Corfu filling in for East Pembroke.

UPDATE 10:07 p.m.: Corfu can also go back into service along with all other mutual aid departments.

UPDATE 10:22 p.m.: State Police are on scene. Tractor-trailer driver is going to try and have the truck towed to Batavia.

Alexander, Bethany and Darien respond to barn fire in Attica

A barn fire in the Village of Attica at 69 High St. has closed down Route 98 between Dunbar Road and Route 354. Alexander, Bethany and Darien fire departments are responding.

UPDATE 3:30 p.m.: Town of Batavia also responding.

UPDATE 7:10 p.m.: According to the property owner Gene Reding, the barn was fully engulfed when he arrived home. The two horses that are normally housed in the barn were out in the field at the time and not injured. There was some equipment and hay for bedding inside. He says he has owned the property since 1975 and the barn was built in 1919.

Attica Fire Chief Bob Willard says the wood frame barn went up in flames in five minutes. It looks like the fire started in the basement and it could have been an electrical problem that caused it. It is a total loss.

Seven companies were called to the two-alarm blaze and no one was injured.

Possible electrical fire snuffed out at Garden Drive residence

City firefighters were called at about 9:08 p.m. to 405 Garden Drive after a caller reported a loud noise followed by smoke in the familty room. It was thought to be a possible electircal fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found a small fire, extinguished it and ventilated the house. A city code enforcement officer was contacted and it is estimated that he will arrive on scene in the next 20 to 30 minutes.

Possible electrical fire reported in apartment on Lake Street, Le Roy

Le Roy Fire Department is being dispatched to 78 Lake St. for a possible electrical fire in a second-floor apartment.

A Le Roy police officer is on scene with the building's owner who reports a circuit breaker has been tripped and there is an odor of burning plastic, but no smoke.

Bergen fire is requested to the scene non-emergency.

UPDATE 10:58 p.m.: Bergen can go back in service. Le Roy responding non-emergency.

UPDATE 11:05 p.m.: Negative results from thermal imaging cams. Some Le Roy units going back in service.

Vehicle fire reported on the 490

A vehicle fire is reported in the westbound lane of the I-490.

Le Roy Fire and Bergen Fire being dispatched.

UPDATE 10:54 p.m.: Vehicle is blocking. Fully involved engine fire.

UPDATE 11:43 p.m.: Car loaded on tow vehicle, roadway will reopen shortly and all units back in service.

Chimney fire reported on Maple Road, Pembroke

A chimney fire is reported at 357 Maple Road. Pembroke Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 8:17 p.m.: A firefighter on scene says "There's nothing coming out of the top. I'm going inside..."

UPDATE 8:26 p.m.: It is confirmed that the fire is confined to the chimney.

UPDATE 8:42 p.m.: Problem resolved. Pembroke fire back in service.

Fire reported at Village Square apartment complex, Le Roy

A lower portion of the building has a working fire at the Village Square apartments, 57 W. Main St., Le Roy.

Le Roy Fire Department dispatched.

Wires arcing, top of pole on fire on Genesee Street, Alexander

Wires are arcing, but not down, on a utility pole at 11230 Genesee St. in Alexander. There's also a fire in the center of the top of the pole. The location is near the county line. Alexander Fire Department is responding. The utility company has been notified. No ETA given.

UPDATE 4:01 p.m.: A responder on scene says the utility company should be advised that the pole is well off the roadway. It does not have a transformer on it. But the fire is now four feet down from the top pole and it's "burned pretty good." The ETA of the utility company is 30 minutes to an hour and a responder says he will "babysit" the situation until the workers arrive.

Volunteers respond to Christmas Eve house fire in Pavilion

Multiple fire companies responded to a house fire at 10122 South Street, Pavilion, following a reported structure fire at 9:06 p.m.

Callers reported seeing flames coming out of the garage and spreading toward the house, according to Emergency Dispatch.

There was nobody home at the time the fire was reported.

The fire is now contained and mutual aid companies are going back in service.

Responding were Pavilion, Le Roy, South Byron, Stafford, Caledonia, York, Bethany and Alexander. Bergen was called to fill in at Le Roy's hall and Wyoming filled in for Pavilion. City of Batavia's Fast Team also responded.

Mercy EMS and Le Roy's ambulance also provided scene support, along with Emergency Management Services.

State Police also responded to the scene.

Stove fire reported on Vine Street, Batavia

A stove fire is reported at 239 Vine St., Batavia.

The residents were told to evacuate.

City fire responding.

UPDATE 9:43 a.m.: Fire is out. House will be ventilated.

UPDATE 9:55 a.m.: City assignment is back in service.
