Law Street Yard Waste Station opens on Monday for city residents

The Law Street Yard Waste Station will open for the season on Monday, April 10 for city residents.

The station will be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday until Daylight Saving Time in November when time changes to 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The station will also be closed on May 29th for Memorial Day, July 4th for Independence Day, September 4th for Labor Day and November 23rd for Thanksgiving. The station will close for the season in early December.

City residents may bring yard waste material (grass, leaves and limbs) to the Law Street Yard Waste Station as there is no spring curb side pickup of these materials.

The following items cannot be accepted at the station:

  • Tree stumps,
  • building materials,
  • rock,
  • fill (soil and stone)
  • other debris.

Yard waste shall be free of trash (paper, plastic, bottles, cans...etc.), as this material cannot be processed.

Use the Law Street entrance to enter and exit the City Yard Waste Station only. 

City's yard waste station opens April 11

The Law Street Yard Waste Station will open for the season on MONDAY, APRIL 11th, 2022 for City Residents.  

The station will be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday until November when time changes to 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The station will also be closed on May 30th for Memorial Day, July 4th for Independence Day, September 5th for Labor Day and November 24th for Thanksgiving. The station will close for the season in early December.

City of Batavia yard waste station hours extended

Due to the windstorm over this past weekend, operations of the Law Street Yard Waste Station have been extended from today, December 13th until this Saturday, December 18th.  Hours of operation will remain the same, 11:00 a.m. to  5:00 p.m. each day.

The following items cannot be accepted at the station:

Tree stumps, building materials, rock, fill (soil and stone) other debris.  Yard waste shall be free of trash (paper, plastic, bottles, cans…etc.), as this material cannot be processed. All containers (totes, boxes, bags…etc.) need to be taken back with the customer.

Leaf collection ends in city, yard waste station closing this week

Leaf collection has ended for the year.   Any resident that has leaves or other yard waste may utilize the Yard Waste Station (M-Sat 11 AM – 5 PM) through this week.   The Yard Waste Station will CLOSE for the season on Saturday, December 11, 2021.

Batavia announces fall Yard Waste hours

Effective Monday, November 1, 2021 the new hours of the Yard Waste Station will be 11 A.M to 5 P.M.

The Yard Waste Station will CLOSE for the season on Saturday, December 11, 2021.

The Yard Waste Station will also be closed on Thursday, November 25, 2021 in observance of Thanksgiving.

City residents may bring yard waste material (grass, leaves and limbs) to the Yard Waste Station.

The City Yard Waste Station will be closed for Independence Day on Friday, July 3rd and Saturday, July 4th.

Hours will resume the following week:

  • Monday-Friday 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Saturday 12 - 6 p.m.
  • Sunday & Holidays: CLOSED

City will open Law Street Yard Waste Station with temporary hours on April 6

The City of Batavia's Law Street Yard Waste Station will open with temporary hours beginning on Monday, April 6th for City residents to dispose of yard waste. 

Until further notice, the yard waste station will open at 8 a.m. and close at 2 p.m., Monday through Friday during normal business days for the City of Batavia.

All customers are asked to the abide by social distancing policies put forth by the Genesee County Department of Health, New York State Department of Health and the CDC.

Specific instructions include:

  • Use the Law Street entrance to enter and exit the City Yard Waste Station only.
  • Distance yourself at least six feet from any employees or other customers.
  • Do not visit the Yard Waste Station if you are sick and/or have COVID-19 symptoms (cough, fever, shortness of breath).
  • Please wash your hands thoroughly before and after your visiting the Yard Waste Station.
  • Sanitize containers or vehicles used to transport yard waste.

As a reminder, the City does not provide spring curbside pickup of yard waste materials (grass, leaves and limbs) and City residents are encouraged to bring these material to the Law Street Yard Waste Station as needed.

Opening of city yard waste station postponed indefinitely due to COVID-19

Public Notice

The opening of the City of Batavia's Yard Waste Station on Law Street has been indefinitely delayed due to the COVID-19 crisis. 

Due to the precautions related to COVID-19 all nonessential operations have been suspended for the time being.

When suspensions are lifted the City will provide additional information as to when the Yard Waste Station is opening. Normally, it opens April 15th each year and closes for the season as weather permits in late November or early December.

City leaf collection has ended, yard waste station remains open through Dec. 12

City leaf collection has concluded for the year. We are extending the yard waste station operation through Wednesday, Dec. 12th, for any resident who still has leaves they would like to dispose of.

The hours of operation 11a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday to Saturday, with the last day for the season being Dec. 12.

The entrance to the Yard Waste Station is signed and located at the curve on Law Street.

The yard waste station will reopen next season on April 15th.

Citywide leaf collection begins Oct. 31, continues through Dec. 2

Citywide leaf collection will begin Monday, Oct. 31 and continue through Friday, Dec. 2.

Residents of the following streets can rake to the parkway, but do not place in the street:

  • Clinton Street
  • Oak Street
  • Main Street (including East and West Main Street)
  • Pearl Street
  • South Main Street (between Oak Street and Walnut Street)
  • Walnut Street
  • Richmond Ave (between Oak Street and Prospect Avenue.

If your street has a route number (i.e. Route 5, Route 33, Route 63 and Route 98), then please keep leaves out of the roadway.

All other streets are asked to rake leaves to the curb line, taking care not to block storm drainage structures/ catch basins.

Leaf operations typically have one crew on the Southside beginning on River Street, moving East in areas South of Main Street; and second crew on the Northside will work from Grandview Terrace moving west, north of Main Street. A third crew will work using a vacuum along main roads and numbered routes. It takes about two weeks to go through the entire city.

Any resident with leaves can also bring them to the Yard Waste Station on Law Street until it closes for the season on Saturday, Dec. 3.

Beginning Nov. 7th, the hours of the Yard Waste Station operation will be adjusted to 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT LEAF COLLECTION

  • Leaf piles must be clear of sticks and other debris;
  • Grass clippings, flower potting material, branches, pumpkins and gourds cannot be picked up and residents are encouraged to bring those items to the Yard Waste Station;
  • Leaves should not block traffic;
  • Leaves should not be piled near intersection corners; this causes sight issues for motorist/ bicyclists/ pedestrians;
  • Keep leaf piles clear of drainage ways and catch basins; blocked drainage leads to localized flooding;
  • Leaves should not be piled around mailboxes, power poles, fences, fire hydrants or other obstacles; 
  • Do not park on leaf piles; the heat from a vehicle exhaust system could start a fire.

Seasonal Yard Waste Station hours set, plus leaf pickup tentatively starts Oct. 20

Effective Monday, Oct. 20, the seasonal Yard Waste Station hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Also, leaf pick-up will tentatively start on Oct. 20.

The Yard Waste Station will be closed for Thanksgiving on Thursday, Oct. 27. Seasonal hours will resume on Friday, Nov. 28.

The station will remain open through Dec. 6, weather permitting.

Residents are encouraged to bring yard waste debris to the Yard Waste Station.
