Portion of Main St. will be single lane starting May 8

All residents/businesses and local traffic please be aware that Route 5 between Bank Street and Redfield Parkway will experience traffic delays beginning on Monday May 8, while Verizon will be closing one of the two west bound lanes starting at Bank Street ending at Redfield Parkway. This will be about a two week duration.

When Verizon’s operation gets to Route 98, Route 98 northbound will be closed for one day.

Next week: portion of Colby Road in Darien to close for a week or two for repairs

Genesee County Highway Department will be closing a bridge in Darien on Colby Road between Route 33 and Richley Road next week for a deck repair.

The bridge will not be open for any traffic during the repairs, which will last one to two weeks. The bridge is just south of the railroad tracks on Colby Road.

Union Street in city closed today through Sept. 13 for water line repairs, new sidewalks and paving

UNION STREET -- ROAD CLOSURE

On today, Aug. 22nd through Friday, Sept. 13th, Union Street in the City of Batavia will be closed to all through traffic.

The closures will be between West Main Street and Richmond Avenue and Richmond Avenue and Oak Street. The closure is for construction activities associated with water main replacement, sidewalk installation and paving.

All motorists who regularly use Union Street are asked to seek alternative routes while the closure is in place.

Emergency response and residents of Union Street and Union Square will be permitted within the closure for ingress and egress to properties. Caution is advised.

Contact the Bureau of Maintenance and ask to speak to the Superintendent at 585-345-6400, opt. 1, if you have any questions.

Water on Law Street and part of Walnut Street to be shut off tomorrow for repairs by city

On Thursday, Aug. 22, the water will be turned off on Walnut Street from number 101 to the city line and all of Law Street starting at 8 a.m. for a water line repair.

The work may result in a period of discolored water in this general area after service is restored. Residents should check to make sure water clarity has returned before resuming activities such as laundry which may be impacted.

County Highway Department announces road work

The county Highway Department announced that the Sumner Road bridge over Elevenmile Creek in Darien is now restricted to alternating one-way traffic with a temporary signal. The change took effect yesterday. This bridge is between Route 77 and Harlow Road.

The public will be notified when the road reopens to both lanes of traffic.

The Highway Department also announced that the Caswell Road Bridge between Walkers Corners Road and Cockram Road in Byron will be closed effective Thursday, Aug. 22nd through Oct. 4th.

Railroad Avenue in Alexander closed for two weeks

The Genesee County Highway Department announces that Railroad Avenue between Route 98 and Sandpit Road in Alexander is closed starting today, Aug. 13, through Aug. 27th. Detour signs will be posted.

The public will be notified when it reopens.

Batavia PD notifies public of road closures for GLOW Corporate Cup on Thursday

Thursday, Aug. 2, the sixth annual GLOW Corporate Challenge will be starting out at 6 p.m. on Richmond Avenue in front of the NYS School for the Blind.

Starting at approximately 5:30 p.m., until approximately 6:15 p.m.,, Richmond Avenue will be closed from Prospect Avenue to Bank Street for the start of the GLOW Corporate Cup.

The race is expected to have a large group of runners and walkers in the area. The run will take place in the North-East sector of the City.

Vehicles traveling in the area should expect extended delays while runners and walkers are in the area. Please plan accordingly or make alternative travel routes to avoid the area.

River Street Bridge scheduled to open by Nov. 10

According to county Highway Superintendent Tim Hens, the River Street Bridge Project will be completed next month and is scheduled to be open to traffic by Nov. 10th.

Deck concrete is curing now, he said this afternoon, and workers still have the guide rail to put up; gas line has to be attached; and the street/curb repairs near the bridge must be completed.

The contract price is still unchanged from the award at $1,419,581.

Wood Street and Highland Park to close for paving May 24 and 25, respectively

Wood Street and Highland Park will be closed on May 24th and 25th, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. for paving operations. Wood Street will be paved first on May 24th, and Highland Park will be paved on May 25th.

Residents and businesses are not to park on the roadway during paving operations.

Highland Park and Wood Street will be closed to all through traffic. Residents and businesses of these streets, will have limited access to their properties and should expect delays when paving operations are ongoing. If work is postponed by weather, work will be rescheduled for the next calendar work day.

Gateway Drive in Batavia will be closed six hours Tuesday for cold milling operations

Paving on North Street in the city rescheduled for Friday

Paving operations on North Street have been rescheduled due to delays outside our area. Work originally scheduled for today will take place on Friday. North Street -- from Ross Street to Naramore Drive -- will experience traffic delays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.on July 24.

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane for paving operations. The following side streets that intersect with North Street will see temporary traffic closures preventing access to North Street while paving operations are ongoing:

  • Manhatten Avenue
  • Columbia Avenue
  • Vine Street
  • Trumbull Parkway
  • North Spruce Street
  • Allenview Drive
  • Naramore Drive

Residents and businesses are not to park on the roadway during paving operations.

Residents and businesses of North Street, from Ross Street to Naramore Drive, will have access to their properties, but should expect delays when paving operations are in front of their properties. If work is postponed by weather, work will be rescheduled for the next calendar day.

Road closures for road resurfacing in Batavia

South Lyon Street, Raymond Place, Allen Street, Olyn Avenue and North Street from Naramore Drive to dead end will experience traffic closures for roadway resurfacing on Wednesday June 24 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.  

Residents are asked not to park on the road. 

Residents of these streets will have limited access to their properties during paving operations.  

Paving will begin on South Lyon Street, then over to Raymond Place, Allen Street, Olyn Avenue, and then to North Street.

All other traffic is asked to avoid these areas.

Portion of Route 63 closed for emergency repairs

The Genesee County Emergency Dispatch Center announced that Route 63 will be closed between Hutton and Macomber roads in Oakfield starting at 5 p.m. today.

A state DOT worker said the "road settled" and some emergency repairs are needed. There is no estimate of when the repairs will be completed and the state route reopened.

The detour will be Lewiston Road to Route 77.

UPDATE 8:49 p.m.: The only additional information from the press release issued late this afternoon is that access to local driveways will be permitted and daily traffic reports can be accessed at www.511ny.org

Railroad crossing on Ellicott under repair

It looks like work has finally begun on the Ellicott Street railroad crossing. 

Center Street is closed at Ellicott. There is two-way traffic this morning on Ellicott, but guided by cones.
