Sponsored Post: Can we jump to dental implants?

By Lisa Ace

Tooth loss leads to additional consequences which may only hurt one's health. Traditionally we have replaced teeth with removable dentures or possibly with fixed dentures which are cemented to adjacent teeth. When possible, there is now an even better alternative, dental implants.

Your typical dental implant is basically an artificial root made out of titanium and placed into the bone. That's it. On top of these artificial roots or implants we attach teeth. Most commonly we see one tooth replaced by one implant and the tooth or crown attached to it. Three teeth can easily be replaced with two implants and often we replace one's whole upper or lower teeth on top of as few as four or five implants. One can use just two implants and give a lower removable denture unbelievable stability and retention.

Patients worry about the discomfort involved with implant placement. The truth is that there is really no discomfort during placement and rarely any reported discomfort afterwards. Your dentist might suggest "mini implants" which are even easier to place. They are classified as "mini" only because they are smaller, but often "mini implants" work better for a particular patient especially when simply anchoring a denture.

Costs of implants have come down and even compare with traditional tooth replacement options. Most dentists offer implant treatment whether they place the implants themselves or refer to specialists for implant placement or they may do both as we do in our office. If you are missing a tooth or you'd like to replace a denture that you do not like or may not even wear, talk to your dentist. Dental implants can be a magical way to stay healthy!

Sponsored Post: Boost your overall health!

By Lisa Ace

Like all health care these days, dental treatment is not inexpensive…so prevention and keeping one’s mouth clean means everything! It is a fact that most people do not clean well enough. The “2-minute rule” doesn’t work anymore if you want an honestly clean mouth unless you have only half your teeth! Using a soft tooth brush, concentrate on cleaning one tooth at a time or even one tooth surface at a time. Try it! Two minutes might turn into four before you know it.

Flossing those surfaces of your teeth that your brush does not reach, basically, in between your teeth and using a good mouthwash makes the cleaning complete. When finished do a “quality –control” check. Using something like a toothpick, look for that soft, white bacteria filled substance that we call plaque and where you might find it is where you need to spend more time cleaning.

Surprise your dentist or hygienist next time. Clean teeth means fewer cavities and fewer other tooth problems, healthy gums and a boost to your overall health. Dr. Russell Marchese Jr. -- 585-343-2711. Like us on Facebook or visit our Web site for more information.

Today's Flip Ad winner

By Howard B. Owens

Kyle Couchman, of Batavia, is today's Flip Ad winner. Kyle was the seventh person to correctly identify today's secret code, which was "Brisbane." It was flipped under the Turnbull ad.

Reminder: To win you must correctly identify the secret code word. I received a half dozen e-mails this morning before we even put the contest up. Each e-mail was idenifying an existing Flip Ads. That's not how the contest is played.

When playing, remember to include your full name and address to qualify for the prize.

There won't be another code up until some time tomorrow.

We have a winner in the second Flip Ad contest

By Howard B. Owens

Katie Bieber, of Batavia, is our winner. She correctly found the secret code "Joseph Ellicott" under the Kleen-All ad.

Katie will be sent a check for $25.

We'll run another contest tomorrow.

We have a winner in first Flip Ad contest

By Howard B. Owens

We have a winner in our first Flip Ad contest. Dan Bartholf, of Geneseo, will receive a check for $25.

We'll play again tomorrow. A code like the one to the right will be visible under a randomly selected ad that will flip when you mouse over it.

We've received numerous e-mails just telling us which ads are currently running as flip ads -- Reed Eye and Kreative Kitchen -- but that's not how you play the game.

At an unannounced time, we'll pick an ad at random and turn it into a flip ad and put a secret code like the one in the sample in this post.

Today, we made it the first person to e-mail us. When I was a kid and radio stations did contests like this they would say a different number caller each time -- the 7th caller, the 8th caller, the 12th caller. We got enough people responding today, that should work for this contest, too, so tomorrow's flip ad will say which number person to e-mail the correct secret code will win.

Happy hunting!

Flip Ads contest starts today

By Howard B. Owens

Reposting the announcement below as a reminder that our contest starts today.

Some of you may have already noticed -- there are a couple of sponsor's ads on the right side of the page that if you mouse over the box, it flips over to reveal a secondary message.

This is a new concept in online display advertising and locally, it's only available onThe Batavian and the Wyoming County Free Press.

To help kick off the introduction of Flip Ads we're running a contest over four days this week (four days between Monday and Friday). We will randomly pick an ad on the site and make it a Flip Ad, and the secondary message will be a secret code. The code will go up at some unannounced time during the day and stay up until we have a winner. The first person to e-mail me, howard@thebatavian.com, with the correct code, will win $25 cash. (In your e-mail, include your full name and address. By participating and claiming you're prize, you're agreeing that we can use your name to announce the day's winner).

Easy to win: mouse over ads and find the Flip Ad with the secret code, like an Easter Egg hunt.

Sponsors: Interested in Flip Ads? Contact Lisa Ace, lisa@thebatavian.com, or (585) 250-4118, to sign up.

CLARIFICATION: The contest isn't just to identify which ads are Flip Ads. It's to find the one that has a secret code under it. When you flip the ad, there will be a word or numbers or phrase that you need to e-mail to me. I'm getting a lot of people sending me the names of the advertisers with Flip Ads (Reed Eye and Kreative Kitchen), but that's not how the contest works. But thanks for playing!
