ILGR announces first in-person fundraising event since beginning of COVID-19 pandemic

Independent Living of the Genesee Region (ILGR) is excited to announce our very first in-person event since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic! Join us in celebrating the 31st anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act with our 2nd Annual Walk, Run & Roll!

The event takes place Monday, July 26, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Pavilion 2 of DeWitt Recreation Area, 115 Cedar St. in Batavia, rain or shine.

To register, go to runsignup.com/ilgrwalkrunroll.

For $25, participants can walk, run or roll the distance of their choosing. All participants receive an event T-shirt.

Food trucks will be present, plus a basket raffle, a 50/50 raffle and a caricature artist.

Please bring your own chair! COVID-19 guidelines will be followed.

Independent Living hosts debut 'Walk, Run and Roll 5K or 10K All-inclusive Virtual Race' this month

Independent Living of the Genesee Region (ILGR) is holding their debut Walk, Run and Roll 5K or 10K All-inclusive Virtual Race for people of all abilities.

People with disabilities as well as the public will have the opportunity to compete side-by-side in an on-line event that will not discriminate based on disability. This fully accessible activity will permit competitors to pick the “course” of their choice any time between Oct. 18th to 31st.

Within the race itself, participants will have the secondary opportunity to engage in a Visual and Auditory Scavenger Hunt, where participants are challenged to locate particular sights and sounds of nature, city life, and Halloween decorations in a unique feature to the “race."

Warrior Walk: Celebrating Life Beyond Cancer

A 1-mile walk and 5K/10K race, as well as entertainment and family activities. All funds raised by the Warrior Walk support the activities of the Judy DiMarzo Cancer Survivorship Program at Wilmot Cancer Institute.

Run for the Gold 5K Run / Walk

The Michael Napoleone Memorial Foundation is hosting a 5K Walk/Run in honor of Pedatric Cancer Awareness Month. September 27, 2014. Registration 8am - Race at 9am. Begin at Tennis Courts - 40 Wolcott St. Leroy, NY. $25 per participant. Everyone welcome! Due to personal safety and traffic control, please do not park on the side of the road.

Bring a flashlight, candle or anything to light the night.

We will begin the walk to the Milks' home at 7:30pm.

GCC's 'Phi Theta Kappa' hosts second annual 'Walk for a Cure'

Student members of Phi Theta Kappa at Genesee Community College -- at 1 College Road in Batavia -- will host their second annual "Walk for a Cure" to assist victims of breast cancer on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. until an unspecified time. The walk itself will last 30-45 minutes, followed by a post-walk event in the student forum beginning around 11 a.m.

The walk will start at GCC's nature trail, which is on the west side of the campus, and then wind through the nearby woods and across the field, ending at the student forum.

Guest speakers will include two people from "Komen for the Cure" and a GCC student who is a breast cancer survivor. Food, drinks, a Chinese Auction and a raffle will be included.

This event is open to the public. The cost is $3 for the walk, or $7 for the walk plus a t-shirt. Tickets and t-shirts will be for sale the morning of the event, but they can be purchased along with Chinese Auction tickets on Thursday, Oct. 11 from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Pre-registration is not required.

Genesee County businesses challenged to walk to end Alzheimer’s

The Alzheimer’s Association, Western New York Chapter, is challenging all local businesses to start a Walk to End Alzheimer’s team. Show your support of the more than 55,000 Western New Yorkers who are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.

People affected by Alzheimer’s are surrounding you – they are your coworkers, clients, neighbors and friends. Form a walk team today, and you’ll be entered into the Memory Cup challenge, which is a competition between all of the corporate and health services to see who can raise the most team funds throughout Western New York for Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held at the Genesee County Nursing Home in Batavia on Saturday, Sept. 17. Additional Walks to End Alzheimer’s will take place on Sept. 17 in Medina, Sept. 24 in Buffalo and Oct. 1 in Chautauqua and Lewiston. THE BATAVIA AREA JAYCEES 25TH ANNUAL LABOR DAY RUN AND WALK

ANNUAL LABOR DAY RUN AND WALK

Batavia, NY: The Batavia Area Jaycees are proud to announce the 25th Annual Labor Day 5K Run & Walk being held on September 5, 2011 at MacArthur Park in Batavia, NY. 

Registration will begin at 8:00am and the race will begin at 10:00am.  The race fee is $12 for runners and $10 for walkers, with the fee going to $15 for the day of the race.  Medals and prizes will be given out to the top male and female runners after the race.  Sign up early to receive your free t-shirt.

The Batavia Area Jaycee’s 5K course is USA Track & Field certified #NY-06038-JG.

2K Memory Walk for victims of Alzheimer's

The Alzheimer's Association will be hosting a "Memory Walk" in Batavia on Saturday, Sept. 11. It will begin at the Genesee County Nursing Home, at 278 Bank St., and proceed along Chandler Avenue, North, Bank and Ross streets, and Washington Avenue.

Anyone who wants to take part can show up the morning of the walk for registration, which begins at 9 a.m. The walk itself will start at 10 a.m. and cover about two miles. Brunch, entertainment from Pete Gomez and a Chinese auction -- with gift certificates and  prizes donated by area businesses -- will follow in the nursing home dining room.

Walkers will be raising money via sponors for the benefit of Genesee County residents coping with Alzheimer's Disease. People are encouraged to raise all funds by Saturday, but funds will be accepted until October 29.

All Babies Cherished sponsors 2K walk in Batavia

All Babies Cherished Pregnancy Assistance Center will host its "Let There be Life" walk beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 5. Walkers will recruit sponsors and walk two miles to raise money for the pro-life cause.

The walk will start at St. Paul Lutheran Church, at 31 Washington Ave., in Batavia. Anyone who would like to get involved but cannot participate on the day of the walk may walk two miles in their own neighborhood and then mail sponsor forms to: All Babies Cherished, 445 Ellicott St., Batavia, NY 14020.

Walk and information session held to benefit foster children

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for Children will host a walk from Batavia City Hall, 1 Batavia City Center, to the courthouse starting at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 27.

There will also be a display at the courthouse featuring 60 life-size cut-outs, each representing a Genesee County child currently in the foster care system.

Information about CASA and other community agencies will be available at the courthouse. There will also be a $1 Jaycee's hot dog stand.
