Press release:
As details emerge about the effort peddled by New York City politicians to allow undocumented immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses, Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,C,I-Batavia) blasted the proposal.
This measure comes on the heels of the Majority passing tuition assistance for illegal immigrants while initially opposing Hawley’s bill to do the same for Gold Star families.
“Instead of incentivizing legal immigration, Albany is once again creating a magnet for outright lawlessness,” Hawley said. “First they offered undocumented immigrants the right to free college tuition, now they offer the privilege of driving.
"This latest proposal jeopardizes the safety of our communities throughout the state. NYC lawmakers continue to place the interests of illegal immigrants ahead of law-abiding, middle-class New Yorkers.
“We are a nation of laws, and these proposals only lead to more giveaways and services for illegal immigrants in our state. In addition, handing out these privileges blurs the lines between law-abiding citizens and those here illegally.
"Rest assured, I will continue to remain steadfast in my commitment to public safety and the rule of law especially in light of the avalanche of proposals endangering New York families in favor of realizing a political agenda."
Maybe Assemblyman Hawley
Maybe Assemblyman Hawley should spend a bit more time actually getting something done in Albany instead of issuing countless press releases to The Batavian which do little more than broadcast his failures on the job. We the Tax Payers are paying him to represent us. Not to issue sour grapes press releases.
Scott, do you support driver
Scott, do you support driver's licenses for illegal immigrants or just don't like Hawley (Or both?)
If Hawley wasn't sharing his
If Hawley wasn't sharing his views with constituents, Scott would be complaining about his lack of transparency.
You know Scott is right. A
You know Scott is right. A simple reading of his dripping, self endearing, press drivel, as sickening as it is to read, backs every word. A representative of ANY value would explain at least some of the political moves she is involved with in order to be effective. hawley is too busy with mambe pambe play to his fawning political operatives and others who see his inaction through the wool he constantly pulls over their eyes with press releases (campaign ads).
The purpose of this site
The purpose of this site (according to Howard) is to provide local residents with timely news and information mostly about Genesee County. It is also our mission to ensure that every resident has a chance to contribute to the community by posting news and opinion about events, whether of local interest or national or international importance. We believe that through civil discussion, communities grow stronger. We encourage all residents to participate, and only ask that each contributor treat others with respect.
This sounds like a great mission statement. Yet when a contributor respectfully points out that Mr. Hawley issues nonstop press releases demonstrating his ineffectiveness in Albany, the Publisher makes a personal and unwarranted personal attack against said contributor. As Daniel Norstrand comments above, I am not alone in my belief of Hawley's press drivel.
I find it interesting that The Publisher would attack someone who is following guidelines. It also makes me wonder just why Hawley has so much influence over The Batavian.
Scott - Howard could have
Scott - Howard could have done without that last comment to/about you....
However, he and Billie have stated a number of times that they will publish statements from politicians. The only time they have restricted that is when Rep. Collins refused to take part in any sort of Q&A that all the other candidates in that race took part in.
My guess is that if Howard and Billie were to request a Q&A from Hawley about his latest press releases, Hawley would agree... and if he refused to do so, Howard and Billie would be less likely to present Hawley's PR.
But you are right - I believe that personal shot was uncalled for.
Scott, I'm starting to get
Scott, I'm starting to get the feeling you don't much care for the man. He's done as much for me as any other politician I can think of...…….absolutely nothing. Keep up the good work Steve.
I hardly consider Howard's
I hardly consider Howard's comment in #3 a "personal and unwarranted personal attack."
It's an opinion -- that Scott would find something else to complain about. Hardly virulence of speech.
Hawley does all he can do.
Hawley does all he can do.
I had no wish to single out
I had no wish to single out Steve Hawley with my sarcastic comment, he just provided the opportunity to voice my disdain for politicians in general.
