For second time today, general fire alarm at 400 Towers
By Howard B. Owens
For at least the second time today, and at least the third time in the past week, there's a general fire alarm at 400 Towers, 400 E. Main St., Batavia.
Wasn't me...I was at the game. Just got home, after a stop at my daughter's and a quick run to pick up a few groceries and found the fire trucks parked out in front.
We could definitely smell charred food as we walked to the doors...but didn't know which wing until I read it here.
The smoke alarms are very sensitive (which is good)but one has to be extremely cautious when cooking - for example keep the exhaust fan running if frying or broiling.
By the way, that first inning today was a thriller. WTG Muckdogs.
We have had two recent instances where one of our seniors walked away from their stove while cooking, and another where the steam from boiling water on the stove set off the smoke alarm because the tenant was not using her ventilation fan. In each case, I communicate with the resident to try to avoid this from happening again.
Each of our units are separated by firewalls, and contain very sensitive smoke detectors, so we err on the side of caution in reporting any problems.
I'd like to extend my sincere thanks to the very professional fire fighters who respond so quickly. They are a great credit to the community, and all the seniors at The Towers very much appreciate all they do to keep us safe.

Well said, Greg. Welcome to thebatavian :)
I, for one, feel that the smoke detectors are a saving grace as well as the ventilation system that is part of every unit.
lol, everytime there is an alarm for the towers, this happy group of regulars automatically thinks I have something to do with it.
I'm innocent, I tell ya! Innocent!
...and before my favorite daughter gets a chance to remind me, I don't subscribe to the opinion that dinner is done when the smoke alarm goes off.
