I voted No, though I would love if she did. I think she is being prepared to land some close elections in 2010 and Jindal is going to be on the ballot in 2012
If she was planning on running for President, her best move would be to stay in office. Most of our recent Presidents/Vice Presidents have been elected while holding another official office. How much sense does it make for her to resign in order to run for President in 4 years?
That would be like saying you're going to quit your job in January in order to find another one in September.
Uh...lets be realistic here...we are only a few months into a new presidency...isn't a little under four years too early to start talking about it? I'm already sick of it and her. I'm with you Richard.
I wanted to like Palin when she came along, but I can't. I just can't. Her dumbness isn't a media creation or a fiction.
She even hires dumb attorneys. Consider that her attorney issued a four-page letter to all major media outlets threatening to sue if they mention the rumor that she's under investigation by the Feds. (<a href="http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0709/24521.html">soruce</a>).
This is dumb for two reasons, and dumb doubly because any competent attorney should know better.
First, she's a public official so she can't win a libel case unless she can prove actual malice. Very hard to prove.
Second, the rumor was largely confined to left-leaning political blogs. The letter invites, begs, really, all other media to know raise the issue. It gives them a news peg to bring out the rumor without actually investigating it.
Regardless of her political beliefs she is a strong leader with a lot of conviction. She's not just a pretty face, she has accomplished a lot during her time as governor and would make a good federal official who isn't a part of the Good Ol' Boys.
And, on here and in most places, I'm considered a liberal, so I didn't even vote for her.
Sarah Palin was the ultimate gimmick, Barack Obama ran an organized, effective and well thought out campaign.
That's how he won.
McCain through a hail mary by picking someone without the capacity to perform on the national stage because he (erroneously) thought that Hillary supporters would fall for the trap.
That, along with McCain's attitude and poor debating skills, is why he lost.
Yeah, because "Good evening and happy Mardi Gras!" was so well received.
Jindal doesn't have a prayer either. Mitt Romney is the only Republican candidate that might have a shot, but GOP primary voters may not be able to get past their prejudices to select their strongest potential candidate. We'll see though.
Ok, I realize the media has a strong pull on people, but look at Palin as a politician.
- She has strong family values
- As far as my research can tell, she's not part of the Christian Right
- What she has accomplished she has believed it was the right thing to do for her state, country, and family
- She hasn't backed down from most of her critics
- She's a "nobody" a "real person" who holds a rather high official office
I'd rather have her in office, than our great leader Biden. I wouldn't trust Biden to run an ice cream stand, let alone our country. So because she's a woman and because she's attractive, because she has a family, because she's made mistakes (who hasn't?) she's a bimbo?
Once again, I didn't even vote for her, and I know the positives of her as a politician.
That's not the "Christian Right", that's the "Christian Crazy"
If she really cared about her state, she would have stayed on. The fact that she's bailing out shows that Sarah Palin only cares about one person, Sarah Palin. Public officials have a responsibility to those whom elected them.
In those 6 months he has spent more than any other president ever! Job losses continue under his reign of economic terror. His idea to fix the nation are to take more money away from the people.
Why do you insist on changing the subject Petey? Weren't we having so much fun?
Jindal is going to run into several roadblocks, the first being money, GOP contributions are way down and with Romney largely self funding, he's going to have an uphill battle. Secondly, his response to President Obama showed that he isn't exactly the most charming, or charasmatic, or convincing fellow. Thirdly, of the 9 percent who admitted that race was a factor, 46 percent voted for McCain, given how McCain won 90 Percent of the Republican vote, that translates into a good share of the Republican primary vote, at least in early key states such as South Carolina and West Virginia.
First, if you're going to make some sort of argument, at least have the courtesy to spell my name correctly.
Second, one video is not enough to condemn someone, just as many people fought against the idea that a crazy former pastor (the one skeleton?) in Obama's past cursed him for life or whatever.
Third, his name is Peter not Petey, I'll start calling you Danielle for your fantastic teenage girl-like retorts.
Fourth, your statements have nothing to back them up. Do some actual research before attacking.
Peter-Governor, yes, but will they vote for him for President? Especially in states where they don't know him? I'm not just talking about the south either.
Why not? If they like the job he did there leading them out of the horrors produced by the previous governor what would stop them from putting him in a national office?
we have dumb in office now Howard, so how can she be any worst. she runes im voting for her. mick mouse runes im voting for him. nothing to lose all to gain
you know Howard, you cant fix stupid.
I'd vote for Hitler, over Obama. At least Hitler understood the need for a strong military and as far as I can tell, race matters just as much to both of them. Hell Obama even has designs for his own brown shirts. And like Hitler he was born in a country he does not rule in.
Back to Palin. If your arguments are that she is a dumb bimbo, thats just sad. If you can't argue against her policies and just keep saying shes dumb, you are adding nothing.
Come on Pete Palin hurt the republicans more than any other VP candidate in history. Not only is she stupid she made McCain and the whole party look even stupider. What policies joe six pack, joe the plumber, fake family vlaues, religion, pit bulls, and hockey moms what a bunch of idiots.
No she did great for them till the economy tanked. McCain had a lead till that happened.
Why should I Dan? He can't. He keeps throwing tons of money at the cases instead of getting a birth certificate (not a certificate of live birth) which would end the debate.
The number one issue of the 08 election was the economy. If Palin was the #1 issue you might have some ground to stand on, unfortunately you are like Wyle E. Coyote and you haven't looked down yet.
Peter, she did great for the GOP until she opened her mouth. The economy had already tanked.
Palin was a huge disappointment to those of us who wanted to cheer for a real person seeking high office. If it's merely a matter of not being well enough educated on national and international issues, that would be one thing. But she was and is inarticulate. But worse, she showed extremely poor judgment in accepting a nomination she wasn't ready to handle well.
As for Jindal, I'm waiting to see. First time I saw him was on ABC's This Week and I thought, "here's the real rising GOP star." I had never heard of him prior to that appearance. His speech that Daniel posted wasn't good, but it was as awful as Democrats like to make out. It's not a career ender, but he, too, may not be ready for the national stage.
The economy was the number 1 issue before the market meltdown, and despite a brief bump after the Republican convention, Obama had a lead on the race for most of the summer.
I learned the hard way that Daniel Jones knows his politics. He proved me wrong during the elections about my concepts of Obama on many occasions. (with links). I would also like to add that pete O'brien needs to study the life of Adolf Hitler before he votes for him !

BTW Obama's own Grandmother says she was there in Kenya when he was born. (please post a link and confirmation documentation proving his place of birth to be fact)
Why should I (besides that he is dead)? Most of Obama voters have no clue that his mother was too young to have a naturalized citizen born here in the US under the prevailing laws of the time.
Hell most Obama voters don't know who Bill Ayers is.
Give it up Peter Palin is a bad political joke she had her 15 minutes of fame the majority of republican party just want her to fade away back to la la land.
Back to the subject at hand. Palin was not a detractor for most. She may not have move many to her side of the aisle in the end but I don't think she was a determiment. I was willing to vote for Obama so he could screw this country up enough that it would go back to its conservative roots (which looks very probable) until she hit the scene. She is why I voted for McCain.

Back to the subject at hand.
Before you change the subject, and since you brought it up, please refute this column on Obama's mother.
I'm sure you have enough resources to prove this wrong.
Poll info on connection to Ayers http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.cfm?ID=1642
Most (56%) were also not able to correctly answer that Obama started his political career at the home of two former members of the Weather Underground.
He "changed" his mind because he was to become first in line to the highest office on the planet behind a man who is the object of extreme hatred for prejudice reason and completely sane reasons.

I am not really good wen it comes to politics but i learned the term "agenda" which i believe changes with any human being trying to win an election. I may just be simple minded to but my momma, she called me "special". LMAO !
As this piece in today's Washington Post points out, it's unlikely to matter who the Republicans run in 2012 because at the rate he's going, Obama won't make it out of the Democratic primaries.
The second thing about age of his mother is an interpretation of the law.
Interpretation by who?
You stated this as fact. Please post a link proving your premise.
Most of Obama voters have no clue that his mother was too young to have a naturalized citizen born here in the US under the prevailing laws of the time.
The stuff in the Pajamas Media article doesn't provide any concrete proof that Obama had a relationship with Bill Ayers beyond what is known, that he met with him, along with many other people while he was running for the State Legislature in Illinois and that they served on a board together.
And that he got his start as a politician in Ayers' home.
If I am going to start a political career, I'm going to choose someone's house or place of business that has the same political ideals as me and is not a known terrorist.
To be perfectly honest, I believe that she is bailing for reasons other than politics. While I admire a "real person" in the Alaskan executive office, let's remember that it's ALASKA. 650,000 people. That's less than WNY.
She would be facing a much more daunting task staying in the political game, which is why I believe she is going to turn to entertainment. Remember, her dream was to be a sportscaster, she was a beauty queen, and now that she has national name recognition?? Hello, she can be pretty and dumb on TV, and make way more money than she does as governor. I just think that is something that everyone is overlooking. She tasted the bitter, foul taste of politics, and she didn't dig it! I think she uproots her family, they move to the Northeast somewhere, and she becomes a game show host! JMO
And the game show thing may be a stretch, but who knows?
You can tell school is out for summer; all of the kids are posting today.
No, I don't think Sarah Palin will run. I believe that she resigned as Governor due to constant attacks upon her family, including: David Letterman's fiasco, comments about her son with Down's Syndrome, legal harassment which was draining her family finances, and spending more time every day refuting false attacks than tending to the state of Alaska's business.
The state of Alaska has spent 2 million dollars per year due to inquiries, investigations, records requests entirely about Sarah Palin.
Now that the horse is dead, many will continue to keep beating it. Isn't there anything else more important to do?
I'm 27 Kelly. Schools been out for a while. And no, the work I need to do can't be done till testing is complete after my shift so that will be tomorrow.
"I think she uproots her family, they move to the Northeast somewhere, and she becomes a game show host!"
She is already moving into the office next to Karl, as we post. You can bet the mortgage payment on it. Heck, if you lose don't worry they'll let you slide a month.
How about this, all you citizens out there. Let's find and embrace a new populist party. Something a little more centered than what we have now, without the unabated greed that has been our legacy for the last decade.
I am tired of rhetoric, name calling and finger-pointing. This is not leading anywhere but to our own demise as a great civilization. Every society has a beginning, middle and end. It is inevitable. I believe we are at the end of our current political system(or we should be), as well as an end to society the way we currently know it. Babylon, Rome, The Great British Empire... all history. We need to change before it's too late for our nation.
I would encourage people to seek out alternative political parties, and start now. If we educate ourselves, and embrace, rather than resist, change, we can perhaps make our family and friends of these alternatives. They tell their friends, so on and so on.
I came across this organization last year, and I am very much in line with their message.
I am thinking in the fall, after my final surgery, of starting a WNY chapter. And if these guys don't appeal to you..KEEP LOOKING. Try and find folks that have a passion for REAL CHANGE. Not an Obama bumper sticker, but the real deal.
God bless the USA
Sarah Palin agreed to step onto the political stage and should have expected this. Theres a reason why the political vetting process for potential Presidential candidates is so brutal in this country, when your the President of the United States enemies of this country, public opinion, congress and the other party is constantly bearing down upon you, and with your every move their gaze is constantly fixed on you.
Being the President, or the VP for that matter, isn't for a "regular" person, you need to be able to live in a constant pressure cooker where people watch your every move. Otherwise, your not tough enough to be President.
Get off it Peter Palin is dumb thats all their is too it McCain gave her a shot and America decided that she is just simple minded plain dumb moutain top community college dumb end of story. Hey Peter Palin yuk yuk yuk.
Ok, it's been established. Some of you think Palin is dumb. Great, fantastic. You're not contributing to the conversation, as your point has been made, albeit inadequately, so please move on.
Unless you're bringing new things to this discussion, such as opinion with facts (or quasi-facts as some have provided) then making statements is just silly and pointless.
For the record, CNN polls are no better than Fox polls or NYTimes polls. Unless you can prove to me the polls are not biased (very few polls are not biased) then your "numbers" are meaningless...
If by media you mean talk radio, you are correct. Unfortunately most of the nation watches TV for their news and the one outlet deemed most fair by poll after poll doesn't have the viewership that the other TV outlets do when combined.
"Ok, it's been established. Some of you think Palin is dumb. Great, fantastic. You're not contributing to the conversation, as your point has been made, albeit inadequately, so please move on."
Because your the administrator of this website and can tell us all where to posts our opinions.
Prove himself????, all he did was say "Those aren't my views" and after increased pressure for weeks he finally threw Wright under the bus and then Wright was removed from the church. The process took for too long for him to prove anything.
He handled the pressure well, acted like a mature adult and won the trust of the American people.
You don't have to like it, but he won, a convincing majority of people voted for him from across the socio-political spectrum. In their eyes, he proved himself.
Peter-Take the clock back to last April, when all of the buzz was over Jeremiah Wright. Obama had to prove himself, he did.
I must put my 2 cents in. Obama was entrenched in that church, and fully aware of the radical sermons provided by Rev Wright. As a community activist, he was surrounded by minorities who felt oppressed by white America, so it would be difficult to not be impressed by these minorities hate towards "the man".
When the fire got hot, Barry played dumb. And it is playing, because he is an extremely intelligent man. He basically stabbed his friend of 20 years right in the back for power and fame. Shame on him for that.
I don't believe that a majority of his voters, voted for him based on principles and policy. He won because of white guilt, Entertainment Tonight, the economy, and the riled up Bush hatred from the main stream media.
No one cares what you believe Peter fact is he ran the smoothest most intelligent campaign against the slime ball Clintons after that McCain was gravy. The McCain/Palin ticket was one of the biggest political jokes in history.
Perhaps the Zogby poll shows that campaigning at someone's house while your running for office or being on a board with someone highly controversial isn't an issue.
Perhaps it shows that William Ayers wasn't all that big of a deal?
They didn't know who he was, that tell me the voters were not researching very well. Most of them thought Palin said she could see Russia from her house.
"Ninety-four percent of Obama voters correctly identified Palin as the candidate with a pregnant teenage daughter, 86% correctly identified Palin as the candidate associated with a $150,000 wardrobe purchased by her political party, and 81% chose McCain as the candidate who was unable to identify the number of houses he owned. When asked which candidate said they could "see Russia from their house," 87% chose Palin, although the quote actually is attributed to Saturday Night Live's Tina Fey during her portrayal of Palin during the campaign. An answer of "none" or "Palin" was counted as a correct answer on the test, given that the statement was associated with a characterization of Palin.
Obama voters did not fare nearly as well overall when asked to answer questions about statements or stories associated with Obama or Biden -- 83% failed to correctly answer that Obama had won his first election by getting all of his opponents removed from the ballot, and 88% did not correctly associate Obama with his statement that his energy policies would likely bankrupt the coal industry. Most (56%) were also not able to correctly answer that Obama started his political career at the home of two former members of the Weather Underground.
Nearly three quarters (72%) of Obama voters did not correctly identify Biden as the candidate who had to quit a previous campaign for President because he was found to have plagiarized a speech, and nearly half (47%) did not know that Biden was the one who predicted Obama would be tested by a generated international crisis during his first six months as President.
In addition to questions regarding statements and scandals associated with the campaigns, the 12-question, multiple-choice survey also included a question asking which political party controlled both houses of Congress leading up to the election -- 57% of Obama voters were unable to correctly answer that Democrats controlled both the House and the Senate."
I heard her resignation speech and I think that is the smartest move she ever made. She is putting her family and state above her own personal gain. I believe the politics of personal destruction has gotten out of hand on both sides. This win at any cost mentality is tearing the country apart. Sarah Palin became the focal point of hate for the Democrats, just as Obama is the whooping post for the right. I think the lady figured out that her family was far more important than public service. The media should leave her kids alone.
I heard she's gonna run for Batavia city counsel President as the next stepping stone to get her ready for the white house run in 2012. Then she could probably see Canada from Middlebury.
In any case, the issues about Biden's past weren't in the context of the current campaign. Palin campaigned on family values and had a pregnant teenage daughter. Palin campaigned as a "regular person" and had a 150,000 dollar wardrobe. The McCain people presented Palin as a capable VP, and then she floundered the interviews.
Biden agreed that he had made mistakes in his past and made light of his reputation as one who sometimes talks to much.
Hypocrisy draws attention, that's why people knew more about Sarah Palin.
As far as William Ayers goes, that was presented by the media, over and over and over again. I remember it, I was glued to CNN and Fox News during the entire election cycle, people heard about it.
They didn't pay much attention and forgot about it. Why?
Your blaming a comedy show? You seriously think that Tina Fey blew it for McCain/Palin? McCain was finished and people thought that Palin was a joke long before that.
Lol, I loved the Howard Stern (I think his show was the one who did it) interview where one of his ppl went down to Harlem and asked a bunch a questions to ignorant voters about the election. LMAO SO FUNNNNNNY. Highlights the retarded-ness of Americans who voted.
Charlie-Being in public service means you take a committment to serve the people, they are your first responsibility, it's more than just a job, its a code of honor.
Her resignation makes a few things clear, like others, she just can't handle the pressure of scrutiny and that she really isn't putting the people of Alaska first.
Dan, she should have finished her term but, she owes nothing more than that. Running for office without the intention of completing the term is unethical.
The poor treatment of her children changes that. They come first. People think her life is a game, it's not.
I give her credit ..If she chooses to move in another direction why not let some one else take over the governorship .She is not like alot of others who try to keep there office and run for president..or vice president. They do that to hedge their bet..Just in case they lose the have a job..Look at us here in New York all the while Clinton was running for President she still keep her job as senator...She knew she wanted to run for president while at the same time running for reelection.....All the while getting paid, and not doing the job she was elected to do..All these people trash Sarah Palin, but they forget someone voted for her to become Governor..They just don't hand you that job..
"All these people trash Sarah Palin, but they forget someone voted for her to become Governor..They just don't hand you that job.."
Yes, exactly, I would have been much more impressed had she finished the job until something else had opened up, to resign mid-term is dereliction of duty.
I think the original question concerned Sarah Palin running for President in 2012. Given the brief nature of her resignation press conference, there could be more to the story than we know. I hope that she is sincere and is simply stepping away from public life to care for her Downs Syndrome child. That was an unexpected turn in her tenure as Governor. I really like her but truth be told she is not ready for the national stage. Even with the outrageous media onslaught she had to endure, she held her head high, but the fact is her entry into the national scene was premature. With time to prepare over the next few years, leaving the Governorship casts her as someone who doesn't finish what she started. I can only hope that she is now honoring the commitment she first made to her husband and children and concentrating her efforts there. The right still desparately needs a strong female candidate to emerge who will hold unwaveringly to our core fundamentals...anybody out there?
All major politicians use their family, look at all the stories on Obama's two "were better than public school but dad won't let others have school choice" brats
Cheney's daughter is gay, the Bush twins partied, Neither of them had to deal with this much family bashing.
Since Chelsea grew up in a house with a womanizer for a dad, I doubt she had a favorable enough opinion of the male species to allow herself to be in that position.
Holier than thou? The first thing we heard from Palin was that her daughter was pregnant. She showed up to the convention with the father of the child at her side. Palin was not hiding anything; she also never tried to make the mistakes of her daughter part of her campaign. Her daughter was pregnant and she was there, it was not a campaign theme.
I did not vote for the woman, I did not feel she was qualified. I can also see the nasty treatment she and her family have received. This is different from the terrible treatment Obama received. Palin lost six months ago and yet the abuse of her family continues. You have organized national party hacks beating this woman and her family up even though the election has long since passed. This is being done because she is considered the front-runner in an election three years away.
These heartless scumbag party hacks are the problem. These dirtbags exist on both sides and are ruining our system of government by scaring away anyone decent from running for office.
"All major politicians use their family, look at all the stories on Obama's two "were better than public school but dad won't let others have school choice" brats""
Your engaging in the same behavior that you apparently abhor, listen to yourself. Have I ever called one of the Palin girls a name?
The difference is that the Bush's, Cheney's and the Obama's keep their kids out of the spotlight, Palin put them there. Her kids were with her at all the rally's, she talked about them all the time. She also talked about how wonderfully close knit her 'new' extended family was.
She makes up a firestorm, and then blames it on others. It's really pathetic.
So? Many of wealthy parents provide the same opportunities for their children, past Presidents have on both sides of the aisle. What's the difference here?
Finish reading the article and see if the shoe fits.
The path to Hell is paved with good intentions. What he intends doesn't matter, only the result and so far the country is worse off with him. The best part is though he won't make it out of the primaries.
Let me ask you, Is your life better now than it was before he was in power? Is it worse? How about the economy better before or since? How about our international relations, specifically Britain and France? How about the safety of this country?
Yes, my life is better. I have a President who I feel is more articulate and representative of my views in foriegn policiy, our relations with Russia is improving dramatically, with a new arms agreement being discussed today. I also know that as someone who works hard as all hell to go to college and has limited health insurance, that there is a plan in the works to create a better health care system.
Get off your anti obama horse Peter he's been in office for 6 months what have you done for the past six months but collect unemployment and spout off your irrational view points here.
I didn't want to jump into the Daniel/Peter fray, but when Daniel said "I have a President who I feel is more articulate", I just can't help but comment. I'll give detractors that President Bush was not a particularly articulate man, but when the teleprompters are off President Obama is his equal or worse. When it comes to articulation, nobody READS a speech like President Obama. By the end of his tenure we will have a gaffe reel as long or longer than his predecessor.
President Obama has a much better command of the english language, and as the debates prove, a much more sophisticated style of speaking than President Bush.
Watch one of his press conferences and compare them to President Bush's.
Back to the original question, per John Ziegler, Governor Palin's decision has nothing to do with a 2012 run for President, or any sort of about to unfold ethics investigation (there aren't any). She simply has decided her family and has been through enough, it shows no sign of letting up and the state will be better served by the Lt. Governor taking over.
Alaskans have always been an independent lot and I say, good for her.
30 seconds in and I counted at least 3 uh's and if we are in a war on terrorism as he says why is it that he no longer are? What changed? Oh just the name....I get it.
Daniel,
Are you talking about the press conferences where the media is called the night before and told they will be called on? You mean the ones where bloggers are allowed in when they agree to ask certain questions, then the President actually asks the question before the blogger who simply repeats it? Canned press conferences are not all that challenging. I'd like to see President Obama give impromtu press conferences like President Bush did. He would often step off Marine One and stop and give unscripted press conferences right on the White House lawn. Granted his handlers must have cringed each and every time, but he stumbled, er made it through them. Even the left of left Helen Thomas recently called the President out on media manipulation.
This press conference question thing is blown way out of proportion. It's only an issue because angry MSM reporters who's jobs are threatened by new media outlets want to make it an issue.
Truth is, Obama had no idea of the actual substance of the question. The reporter from Huffington post was already on the press-pass list, as HuffPo staff is usually included now. He had previously floated the idea of asking a question about Iran, if he got called on, and the White House suggested he obtain a question from the Iranian people, so he put out a call on Twitter and Facebook for Iranians to send in questions. He then INDEPENDENTLY selected that question.
And when he was called on, Obama did make reference to wanting a question from the Iranian people. The reporter asked it -- and then Obama promptly dodged it.
That's some "planted question" when the president doesn't even answer the so-called "planted question." Some effective media strategy that is.

That would be like saying you're going to quit your job in January in order to find another one in September.
If her state were in the
If her state were in the lower 48 maybe, but Alaska is too far removed for her to maintain a national spotlight while trying to govern effectively.

The repubs would have had a shot if they didn't play gimmick politics with a gas brain bimbo instead of a real right wing conservative.
After this last ET and TMZ
After this last ET and TMZ election of Obama your going to say that gimmick politics don't work?
Regardless of her political
Regardless of her political beliefs she is a strong leader with a lot of conviction. She's not just a pretty face, she has accomplished a lot during her time as governor and would make a good federal official who isn't a part of the Good Ol' Boys.
And, on here and in most places, I'm considered a liberal, so I didn't even vote for her.
Sarah Palin was the ultimate
Sarah Palin was the ultimate gimmick, Barack Obama ran an organized, effective and well thought out campaign.
That's how he won.
McCain through a hail mary by picking someone without the capacity to perform on the national stage because he (erroneously) thought that Hillary supporters would fall for the trap.
That, along with McCain's attitude and poor debating skills, is why he lost.
Yeah, because "Good evening
Yeah, because "Good evening and happy Mardi Gras!" was so well received.
Jindal doesn't have a prayer either. Mitt Romney is the only Republican candidate that might have a shot, but GOP primary voters may not be able to get past their prejudices to select their strongest potential candidate. We'll see though.
Yes Chelsa and Paris Hilton
Yes Chelsa and Paris Hilton is a good actress.
"Yes Chelsa and Paris Hilton
"Yes Chelsa and Paris Hilton is a good actress."
That was absolutely priceless.
Ok, I realize the media has a
Ok, I realize the media has a strong pull on people, but look at Palin as a politician.

I think she (Palin) can best
I think she (Palin) can best serve "joe six pack" by quitting politics and do a photo shoot for Playboy !
What exactly has Sarah Palin
What exactly has Sarah Palin accomplished?
If your dumb and you say dumb

Sarah ran the largest state
Sarah ran the largest state in the union, Obama ran nothing.
Palin briefly ran in terms of
Palin briefly ran in terms of land mass the largest state in the union, that's true.
Alaska also has a population that's comparable to Erie County, New York. Is County Executive Collins qualified to be Vice-President? Or President?
By the way, I sincerely hope
By the way, I sincerely hope that it's Palin vs Obama in 2012. Can you say "clean sweep"?
Yes for Palin the way the

Ignorance can be fixed. She
Ignorance can be fixed. She was ignorant of the national stage. That's no big deal. She is not dumb by any means.
Why does Jindal have no prayer? You make a statement with nothing to back it up.
In those 6 months he has
In those 6 months he has spent more than any other president ever! Job losses continue under his reign of economic terror. His idea to fix the nation are to take more money away from the people.
Patterson could beat Obama in a primary in 2012.
Did you hear that general YA
Did you hear that general YA CAN'T FIX STUPID.
Why do you insist on changing
Petey-Your fact filled
Petey-Your fact filled contributions are always inspiring...
It's "Paterson" by the way.
It's "Paterson" by the way.
First, if you're going to
First, if you're going to make some sort of argument, at least have the courtesy to spell my name correctly.
Please and thank you.
He can't see how to spell it
He can't see how to spell it why should I learn?
I am not changing the subject, I was first to post and mentioned Jindal right way.
Contributions are down because there is no leadership. Jindal would fill the void.
Jindal governs in the so called racist south. He'll be fine.
Watch, Palin will be touring the country come next summer to help tight elections for Congress.
Chelsea- Jeremiah Wright did

Jeremiah Wright did not have his hand on Barack Obama while muttering those now infamous words, infact, Obama wasn't even there.

Why not? If they like the
Why not? If they like the job he did there leading them out of the horrors produced by the previous governor what would stop them from putting him in a national office?
we have dumb in office now
we have dumb in office now Howard, so how can she be any worst. she runes im voting for her. mick mouse runes im voting for him. nothing to lose all to gain
you know Howard, you cant fix stupid.
I'd vote for Hitler, over
I'd vote for Hitler, over Obama.
"I'd vote for Hitler, over
"I'd vote for Hitler, over Obama."
That says it all.
Come on Pete Palin hurt the
Come on Pete Palin hurt the republicans more than any other VP candidate in history. Not only is she stupid she made McCain and the whole party look even stupider. What policies joe six pack, joe the plumber, fake family vlaues, religion, pit bulls, and hockey moms what a bunch of idiots.
"And like Hitler he was born
"And like Hitler he was born in a country he does not rule in."
Prove it.
No she did great for them
No she did great for them till the economy tanked.

Peter, she did great for the
Peter, she did great for the GOP until she opened her mouth.

To be perfectly honest, I
To be perfectly honest, I believe that she is bailing for reasons other than politics.
"McCain might as well have

No, I don't think Sarah Palin will run. I believe that she resigned as Governor due to constant attacks upon her family, including: David Letterman's fiasco, comments about her son with Down's Syndrome, legal harassment which was draining her family finances, and spending more time every day refuting false attacks than tending to the state of Alaska's business.
The state of Alaska has spent 2 million dollars per year due to inquiries, investigations, records requests entirely about Sarah Palin.
Now that the horse is dead, many will continue to keep beating it. Isn't there anything else more important to do?

She is already moving into the office next to Karl, as we post. You can bet the mortgage payment on it. Heck, if you lose don't worry they'll let you slide a month.
How about this, all you
How about this, all you citizens out there.

Sarah Palin agreed to step
Sarah Palin agreed to step onto the political stage and should have expected this. Theres a reason why the political vetting process for potential Presidential candidates is so brutal in this country, when your the President of the United States enemies of this country, public opinion, congress and the other party is constantly bearing down upon you, and with your every move their gaze is constantly fixed on you.
Being the President, or the VP for that matter, isn't for a "regular" person, you need to be able to live in a constant pressure cooker where people watch your every move. Otherwise, your not tough enough to be President.

The problem with the vetting process is how one sided it is.

Unless you're bringing new things to this discussion, such as opinion with facts (or quasi-facts as some have provided) then making statements is just silly and pointless.

Again, I point you to the exit polls, most people thought that Palin was unqualified, her disastrous interviews and debate performance proved it.
"Ninety-four percent of Obama
I heard her resignation
I heard her resignation speech and I think that is the smartest move she ever made. She is putting her family and state above her own personal gain. I believe the politics of personal destruction has gotten out of hand on both sides. This win at any cost mentality is tearing the country apart. Sarah Palin became the focal point of hate for the Democrats, just as Obama is the whooping post for the right. I think the lady figured out that her family was far more important than public service. The media should leave her kids alone.

Richard? I know you can see
Richard? I know you can see Elba from the top of the watertower in Batavia, until 10 o'clock when everyone shuts off the lights and goes to bed. What?
As far as William Ayers goes,
As far as William Ayers goes, that was presented by the media, over and over and over again. I remember it, I was glued to CNN and Fox News during the entire election cycle, people heard about it.
They didn't pay much attention and forgot about it. Why?
It didn't matter to them.
Charlie-She made a commitment
Charlie-She made a commitment to public service, unfortunately, she can't handle the pressure of being in public life and is bailing.
It's a shame when that happens. Don't you agree?
People knew more because of
People knew more because of the coverage she got and Saturday night live. If they were informed voters they would have known more of the answers.
The last part, who controls congress proves how uninformed they were.
And this is poll shows why I want a small civics exam to be given before a vote occurs in this country for national office.
Your blaming a comedy show?
Your blaming a comedy show? You seriously think that Tina Fey blew it for McCain/Palin? McCain was finished and people thought that Palin was a joke long before that.
Blame? Not at all McCain
Blame? Not at all McCain lost when the economy tanked.
I am saying that the people of this country don't know enough about the people they vote for and not what new style Michele is sporting.
Lol, I loved the Howard Stern
Lol, I loved the Howard Stern (I think his show was the one who did it) interview where one of his ppl went down to Harlem and asked a bunch a questions to ignorant voters about the election. LMAO SO FUNNNNNNY. Highlights the retarded-ness of Americans who voted.

Charlie-Being in public
Charlie-Being in public service means you take a committment to serve the people, they are your first responsibility, it's more than just a job, its a code of honor.
Her resignation makes a few things clear, like others, she just can't handle the pressure of scrutiny and that she really isn't putting the people of Alaska first.
bait?
bait?
Dan, she should have finished
Dan, she should have finished her term but, she owes nothing more than that. Running for office without the intention of completing the term is unethical.
The poor treatment of her children changes that. They come first. People think her life is a game, it's not.
The business of running a
The business of running a state, which people's lives depend on, isn't a game either.
She herself stepped into public life, she chose this commitment, she should have kept it.

Congratulations -- you all just participated in the most-commented on post in The Batavian history.

Comics calling her daughters
Comics calling her daughters tramps is part of public service? Who would sign up for that?
I give her credit ..If she
I give her credit ..If she chooses to move in another direction why not let some one else take over the governorship .She is not like alot of others who try to keep there office and run for president..or vice president.

Yes, exactly, I would have been much more impressed had she finished the job until something else had opened up, to resign mid-term is dereliction of duty.

Mark, You hit the nail on the head. They all play that game.
Dan name one politician who
Dan name one politician who has had their children attacked like she has. People are even making fun of he down syndrome child.
Palin used her family for
Palin used her family for political purposes, she campaigned as a holier-than thou politician with this seemingly flawless family.
As for making fun of the baby, that's way out of line, I know some people who are very hard on her and would never go that far.
Had Chelsea Clinton gotten
Had Chelsea Clinton gotten pregnant during one of Bill Clinton's campaign or his Presidency, you would have been all over him for it.
I think the original question
All major politicians use
All major politicians use their family, look at all the stories on Obama's two "were better than public school but dad won't let others have school choice" brats
Cheney's daughter is gay, the Bush twins partied, Neither of them had to deal with this much family bashing.
Since Chelsea grew up in a
Since Chelsea grew up in a house with a womanizer for a dad, I doubt she had a favorable enough opinion of the male species to allow herself to be in that position.
You can still have strong
You can still have strong family values eventhough your child made a bad decision.
Obama said that if his children were knocked up he did want them "burdened" with a baby. That's great parenting there.
Holier than thou? The first
Holier than thou?

She makes up a firestorm, and then blames it on others. It's really pathetic.

Yes, my life is better. I
Yes, my life is better.
I have seen no evidence that we are less safe.

I didn't want to jump into
I didn't want to jump into the Daniel/Peter fray, but when Daniel said "I have a President who I feel is more articulate", I just can't help but comment.

Back to the original
Back to the original question, per John Ziegler, Governor Palin's decision has nothing to do with a 2012 run for President, or any sort of about to unfold ethics investigation (there aren't any). She simply has decided her family and has been through enough, it shows no sign of letting up and the state will be better served by the Lt. Governor taking over.
Alaskans have always been an independent lot and I say, good for her.

Its getting quite confusing.
Its getting quite confusing. His handlers need to pick one and stick to it.
Daniel, Are you talking about
Daniel,
Are you talking about the press conferences where the media is called the night before and told they will be called on? You mean the ones where bloggers are allowed in when they agree to ask certain questions, then the President actually asks the question before the blogger who simply repeats it? Canned press conferences are not all that challenging. I'd like to see President Obama give impromtu press conferences like President Bush did. He would often step off Marine One and stop and give unscripted press conferences right on the White House lawn. Granted his handlers must have cringed each and every time, but he stumbled, er made it through them. Even the left of left Helen Thomas recently called the President out on media manipulation.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fh5vzOAEQ-A
This press conference
