Two-car rollover accident reported near Pavilion Center

By Howard B. Owens

Emergency crews are responding to a possible serious-injury accident at Route 20 and Perry Road east of Pavilion Center.

Two cars are reportedly on their roofs and "multiple injuries" are reported.  Mercy Flight is being dispatched.

UPDATE 5:00 p.m.: On scene. One Mercy Flight helicopter has left and at least one more, possibly two, on their way. A maroon minivan is on its side while a black compact car is now upright. Emergency crews are treating patients. There may be as many as five patients involved.

UPDATE 6:42 p.m.: There were six victims, all adults. Two in a sedan, and four in a minivan. Two were taken by Mercy Flight to area hospitals -- at least one to Strong, so the other probably to ECMC. Four other victims were taken by ground ambulance to Strong (possibily).  Investigators on scene as of an hour ago had no idea how the accident occurred. They were just getting started with examining the scene. I'll post a couple of pictures after I get to tonight's City Council meeting.  As for video, my camera is busted.  It probably recorded fine, but now playback isn't working.  Somebody is bringing me another camera tonight, but I probably won't be able to get any video up from the scene before the morning.

I've been listening to the scanner since this happened. They mentioned that the "Batavian" was there. Kudos to Howard for quick reporting! My heart goes out to the victims. That seems to be a bad intersection & I don't understand why? There have been many accidents there over the years.

I drive through this intersection twice every work day and have for the past 6 years. As Mardell said, there have been many accidents at this intersection. The problems at this intersection are the same as suicide corners in Bethany and many others that cross Rt 20. The approaching cross roads have a long straightaway before the intersection and people simply lose track of the traffic control devices such as stop signs and intersection lights. I've said it before and I'll say it again. These intersections needs rumble strips on the cross roads. I've witnessed people coming north into that intersection and totally blowing through the stop sign. They usually pull over to the side of Perry road (probably to puke and clean out their undies) after they've blown through the intersection and realize that they've just dodged a bullet.

Here's a few pictures I took of an accident at the intersection. The blue truck was loaded with dear carcasses and the truck out in the field was also involved. I don't know any details of the accident other than it happened May 7th, 2004. I did not witness the accident but happened upon it on my way home from work that evening.

William, pay attention. I posted those pictures and they're from an accident 5 years ago at the same intersection. I know why these accidents happen at intersections like this and have given the reasons on several news posts here.

The truck was filled with deer carcasses because the person was obviously employed to remove them from the roadside at the end of the winter.

William,
Jumping in here. I lived on Perry Rd. for a year & there was a truck that would go through once/week (approx.) to pick up dead deer. The deer run rampant through there & are constantly getting hit. I can recall vividly cars & trucks hitting their brakes all night long while avoiding a hit.

It's a full time job for the driver to pick up the carcasses. (Eeewww.) Not sure where they take them from there? Another "Eeeeww!" Good gravy, I sure wouldn't want that job! What's that show? "World's Dirtiest Jobs" or something like that. LOL
