iPhone owners in Genesee County: Rejoice. We now have the 3G network available to us.
I was pleased to notice "3G" next to the reception bars on my iPhone this morning. And then a little while ago, I got a press release from AT&T announcing the network upgrade.
The PR says enhanced cell sites are located in Alexander, Batavia, Bethany, Brick House, Corfu, Darien, Elba, Leroy, Oakfield, Pavilion and Pembroke. (Brick House?)
3G is mobile broadband, meaning AT&T customers in Genesee County can now surf the Web and download e-mail a bit faster.
Now, if AT&T would just do something about the fact there is no place to buy iPhones or accessories in Genesee County.
The network was upgraded
The network was upgraded about two weeks ago. I noticed the 3G on my phone then I was more than a little surprised.
I bought my iphone across from Tops, after Verizon told me it would be two weeks for them to get me a new battery for my Blackberry. I just drove across the street to AT&T. I do not understand why you say they can not be purchased here.

I haven't seen them for sale here. The AT&T store here doesn't carry them (independent retailer). I haven't been able to find accessories here, not that I've looked hard since I rarely go into chain stores. But I did mention the difficulty of purchasing iPhones here to the spokeswoman for AT&T and she acknowledged the problem.

I think that the iphones look awesome...BUT I have had my 3G service from Verizon for a LONG time now! That said, I can't wait until EVERYONE can have iphones on any network!!! Give it time...

Howard, the Evil Wal-Mart and Target have all the accessories you could ever want. Not only can you get a great price but, you can get a pretzel and Starbucks all in the same stop!

I purchased my IPhone at the AT+T Store across from Tops in November of 2008. That outlet is closed, but the best place to go is to the Apple store at the Walden Galleria. Great service and they have everything you need and more....
I know Walmart sells some accessories as well, but I suggest the Galleria...
I am happy to see ATT
I am happy to see ATT increase their coverage. As a former long time employee of their main competitor, it will do well for all involved. Increased coverage means more competition, and not the complacent "we're the only game in town" BS that was so prevalent before. This is a win for everyone, including the competition.
I'm not sure, but I will
I'm not sure, but I will credit "The Batavian" with making Batavia 3G worthy. You've joined the Internet age, ten years after. Ten Year After...cool band. Alvin Lee rocked. Now that you're connected look it up. YouTube.

Howard, "Brick House" is the corner of Route 5 and 77! It's been called "Brick House Corner" as long as I can remember!
As far as the history goes, I don't know much, only to suppose that it was a big intersection "back in the day" and the way to describe it would be where a "brick house" stood. Hopefully, someone here can give some of the history of it.
They have a "fair" there every year...
As far as AT&T being local...been a long time coming!
If I get this wrong, I will
If I get this wrong, I will never hear the end of it. Not to mention the ghost of Rueben Warren will reach out from the netherworld and smack me on the back of my head. Rueben was my neighbor growing up and the Town of Pembroke historian back then. I believe there was once a "brick house" near where the Pembroke high school now stands, which was a tavern/ guesthouse and stage coach stop. It stood until the early part of the 20th century. I think. My apologies if wrong.
