BATAVIA, NY -- A jury of 12 Genesee County residents has found Scott F. Doll guilty of murder, 2nd.
The jury began deliberations around 2 p.m., Wednesday and took a recess at 5 p.m. The jury returned to deliberations at 9 a.m. and notified Judge Robert C. Noonan that it reached a verdict just before 4 p.m.

I have followed this story from start to finish with much angst over the outcome. I do not know either family but have had much empathy for both sides. I have read all of the info that was printed here, the daily news as well as the information that an attorney friend of mine had given because he sat in for most of the trial. I have to say that I am deeply upset with this verdict... With the evidence being mostly circumstantial, no murder weapon and in my opinion no motive! 28,000.00 worth of credit card debt is not a reason to kill somebody. I can not beileve that a jury of 12 peers unanimously decided beyond a reasonable doubt that this man was guilty! It is a travisty! I hope they will have better luck with the appeal that I am certain will come because of the unjust when he was denied an attorney. It worries me to see what the justice system is coming to. I have been a registered member with Batavian for months now and have not commented on anything thus far, but this has shaken my bones-I just can not believe it!

Thanks to all who appreciated our coverage. We've done our best to present this case in as much detail as we could and with honest reporting. I hope we've accurately reflected the proceedings. The comments I received from both those on the Benaquist side and the Doll side who said they appreciated the coverage of The Batavian give me confidence that we achieved our goals.
I do want to be sure everybody recognizes that both Billie Owens and Justine Bonarigo helped with coverage and their work was outstanding. The Batavian, with its limited resources, could not have covered this case without their dedicated and thorough coverage.

A jury has to find an individual guilty beyond a “reasonable” doubt not beyond “all” doubt. There is a great difference between the two.

There was reasonable doubt.....defense asked why would he ditch the murder weapon when his clothes were covered in blood? Why would he be walking back to the scene? How could his knees be soaked in blood if he beat him to death when it would have taken longer for the victim to bleed out??? These are all big issues.
