Storm warning cancelled, advisory in effect

By Howard B. Owens

A storm that had been expected to dump as much as a foot of snow on the region has apparently weakened.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has downgraded the previous storm warning and issued an advisory in effect until 6 p.m.

The storm is now expected to bring about two to four inches of snow mixed with sleet.

Slick driving conditions are expected.

Winds will remain strong at 15 to 25 mph.

UMMC has cancelled all cardiac rehab classes.

UPDATE: From UMMC: "United Memorial's Cardiac Rehab Center will open at 10 a.m. today. All services at United Memorial and our affiliated sites, including Urgent Care in Le Roy are open today."

It looks slippery, with not much snow cover, in our parking lot.
Several brave souls have already left to do whatever errands they have today.
A few car lights are on, indicating car starters.
Those are great devices.
I'm amazed at their range. Once car is parked close to east wing, yet the owner can start the car from an apartment in the other wing and around the building.
Pretty cool!

Drove myself crazy since 4 a.m. with "should I or shouldn't I" go to work. Maybe I'm paranoid, maybe I worry too much but I decided to stay home. I'm feeling a bit guilty, but going with better safe than sorry. It was the slow moving traffic & snow expected this afternoon that finalized my decision. :-/

Went 70 most of the way to Henrietta this morning. Was 2 minutes late and didn't leave early, just had to run the snow blower before I left.

And thankfully the ice kept the snow from getting kicked up by the wind.

I was pretty disappointed when I woke up and realized that I really had no good excuse to not go to work. The ride wasn't bad at all. I hear that the groundhog didn't see his shadow so maybe spring will be here sooner than expected. And Happy Birthday Bud!

There is no room for complacency, when a storm is racing across the country and there is the possibility that it will hit here.
We lucked out. Plain and simple.
Years ago several schools, in the area, believed that a predicted storm wouldn't materialize. They ended up keeping the kids overnight.
The following year, at even the hint of two snowflakes colliding, those schools closed.

Bea, You're 100% right, we lucked out.

You can't win on this. It's the weather and this is WNY. You just never know (Blizzard of '77, October surprise storm). We could have gotten a lot more and for one, I am happy it missed us.

Happy birthday, Bud! Hope you have a good one.

My husband buys materials from a company from Chicago. It's a mess out there. The sales person he deals with is snowed in (24 inches of snow on the ground), working from home with no internet and writing up orders the old fashioned way -- with a pen and an invoice. Why the internet is down there I couldn't say.

So, I think we got lucky. Probably fell in the dry zone near the center of the low pressure. I actually like a good old fashion blizzard every once in a while -- as long as everyone is safe and sound.

I'm happy to have a day off. Had coffee and breakfast with my friend and neighbor(she teaches at Elba), going to bake some cookies and scrapbook for the rest of the day.

I think its only fair that the National Meteorlogical Society should have to make up any state aid lost to schools that "panic closed"

What kind of cookies Mrs. L.?
