Area residents were invited to drive by the Batavia Police headquarters this morning and early afternoon and drop off unwanted prescription drugs and hypodermic needles. The drop off started at 10 a.m. and by noon, detectives had collected four large boxes full of discarded prescription drugs. Above Det. Charles Dudek makes a collection.
I watched several newscasts
I watched several newscasts today on local stations. There were many of these drop offs for unwanted drugs. One newscast showed boxes of drugs, large cardboard boxes of drugs being loaded into a van. I'm sure, although there are no numbers yet from the Batavia drop off, that there were plenty turned in here.
What srikes me is, why do people have so many drugs? Is it the doctors? This is just crazy......
People often don't take all
People often don't take all of what the doctor prescribes or don't NEED every pill dispensed to them. I know that I get every refill filled so that I don't have to run back and forth to the doctor and to the pharmacy.
Most drugs will stay fresh in the refrigerator far after the expiration date which the pharmaceutical companies don't want you to be aware of. Their job is to sell, sell, sell and to profit, profit profit.
Many doctors are guilty of the drug overabundance because pharmaceutical sales reps make it clear to them that if they prescribe their brand, they get a kickback. The more of it they prescribe, the more they get paid. Follow the money, so it's said.
