The founder could trying contacting a local vet. I believe the rabies tag can be traced to the owner. A beautiful animal, and he/she is lucky to have been found by such kind people.
I highly recommend pet name tags. I have them on all my pets. I put the name and my phone number on it. You can use the do-it-yourself machine at Petco or order them online. They are not expensive and provide some peace of mind.
Normally if there is a rabies tag on the collar a license is also attached.Looking at the dog he/she might have been playing in a creek a caught the license on something and may have become lost?
Strongly agree with having a name tag,although they also could get pulled off.The more ID's the better.
My pets have 4 types of ID-----License Tag,Rabies Tag,Name Tag (free from Milk-Bone w/UPC's) and a Chip implanted by my Veterinarian (recorded and on file).
As Paul Harvey would say,here is the rest of the story;
If someone finds the pet and is not honest and caring enough to try and find his/her human companion an ID is irrelevant! KUDOS to you Jane!!!
I agree Bernie. And I ,too, have a chip implanted in our 167-pound rottie/Swiss mountain dog "Pachuco." The more ways of identifying a pet the better provided, as Bernie says, that people are honest in trying to return the animal.
If worse had come to worse and you COULDN'T find the owner, the best thing would have been to notify the Batavia Animal Shelter - THEY would have been able to find the owner - OR if not, they take WONDERFUL - absolutely WONDERFUL care of the animals there, and might/could have adopted the dog out to a good family. We have THE BEST Animal Shelter ANYWHERE. The staff and especially the VOLUNTEERS there are absolutely wonderful. But I'm glad you found the owner yourself - YOU are an excellent person, Jane.
