I attended a couple of auctions Thursday, one on Liberty Street conducted by Harris Wilcox out of Bergen Byron, and the other on East Main Street Road conducted by Bontrager out of Batavia.
Auctions are a fun place for photography, but the Liberty Street auction had a little extra photographic interest -- a box of four old cameras, with three of them in good working condition and no visible damage. At $25, I was the successful bidder.
The East Main Street auction was at a location on the other side of the road from Blondie's. It's most recently been a car dealership (though vacant for at least three years) and was once the State Police barracks in Batavia. Ah, if only I could have afforded the wood-hulled boat that went for a mere $1,100.
Both real estate properties were also sold.
Slide show of more photos below, and photographic prints from both events can be purchased by clicking here.

Harris Wilcox, Inc. is
Harris Wilcox, Inc. is located at 59 South Lake Avenue, Bergen. ...Has been a Bergen family-owned business for over 65 years (and three generations).
One of the odd consequences
One of the odd consequences of school centralization, non-residents have difficulty distinguishing between Byron and Bergen- some even presume there is one town with a Yuppy-esque hyphenated name! I've wondered (on occasion): do Oakfield and Alabama experience similar confusion?
I knew better -- headed out
I knew better -- headed out in a sec to Bergen in fact to stop by their office -- just typed the wrong word.
just to give you a little
just to give you a little background on some of the pics,
#2 in the slideshow shows Brett Wilcox , Grandson of the founder Harris Wilcox and owner of Bergen Auto Sales.
#3 in the slideshow shows Craig Wilcox (foreground) and Brett (background) , they are father and son , Brett was my neighbor when i lived in Bergen.
#13 in the Slideshow is Jason Helenbrook , I have known Jason and his family for 8 years now , great people and Jason is quite the talented auctioneer.
#28 in the slideshow is Todd Jantzi , owner of Bontrager Auctions , real great guy and close friend of my family's.
as for the whole Byron-Bergen deal , up until the 50's they were two seperate school districts (my great aunt remembers going to Bergen High School) , if you ever find yourself wandering around the Village of Bergen , take a drive down Rochester street , about halfway down there is a brick apartment building , that is the former Bergen High School.
and the auction at the Barracks was East Main , not West Main
