Five charged with grand larceny after allegedly shoplifting from Kmart

By Howard B. Owens

Five people were jailed Friday, charged with grand larceny and accused of shoplifting from Kmart during a busy Black Friday morning.

The five suspects are all from Buffalo and were reportedly in a rented car when they went to the store at 8363 Lewiston Road.

The suspects were allegedly removing two HD TVs, two mobile phones, video games and numerous cosmetics when confronted by Kmart security.

The suspects fled, leaving behind much of their allegedly ill-gotten booty and headed toward Walmart.

One suspect was found in the Office Max parking lot.

The suspects reportedly tried discarding some of the allegedly stolen merchandise as they fled.

Arrested, charged with grand larceny, 4th, and jailed on $2,500 bail each were:

  • Amanda P. Stephens, 25, of Schreck Avenue
  • Brittanie S. Wofford, 24, of Hiddell Street
  • Crystal M. Snow, 45, of Wohlers Street
  • Jazzmen S. Welch, 21, of Goemble Avenue

Also charged, but released under supervision of Genesee Justice, was Emma M. Mills, 36, of Clay Street, Buffalo.

The case was investigated by Deputy Christopher A. Parker, with assistance from Deputy Daniel VanValkenburg, Investigator William Ferrando and State troopers J. Bryman and J. Jackson.

They came from Buffalo to shoplift ......... in a RENTAL CAR? I'm I the only one that is worried that this happens a lot. They were stopped this time, but how often is this happening. It may have been they're first time, but this plan came from someone who had done it before. This policy of "we can't stop them until they leave the store" ... is BS. If the store has surveillance and a person is seen hiding or putting something in their purse/jacket, THAT IS STEALING! Bottom Line!

How Ironic that I mentioned the thefts at Kmart in a different post thread and now this happens. You and I have to pay to prosecute these idiots. Maybe the penalties for shoplifting should include THEIR assets being seized (if they have any) such as their car. They could be auctioned off to recoup the costs that our legal system incurs because of their stupidity.

Yes, I'm aware that they used a rental car in this instance but between the four of them, they must have assets somewhere.

I found Jazzmen's profile on facebook (publicly open) and I like the comments down a bit on her wall: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001920275591&sk=info

More likely than not the electronic items stolen were ordered. Someone fronted the initial deposit on the rental car.
I bet the cosmetics were an after thought. Would be funny if lifting a few packages of eye shadow is what got them caught.
I'll resist the urge to call her (farther down her fb wall # posted) and ask how her "shopping trip" worked for her.

I really think that we are missing the boat on not offering tax breaks to television production companies, we could be the stupid criminal-reality show's best place to film on location destination. What does Toronto have on us anyways ?
Has anyone contacted Cops ?

Wow, isn't this like the third shoplifting incident at Kmart in two weeks? If, they are founded guilty then there punishment should be a year in jail along with community service while serving. Such as, cleaning trash off of city streets along with parking lots and shoveling snow then salting sidewalks. While they are conducting clean up they should wear signs saying, "I got caught shoplifting at Kmart." This would allow the public to view their faces so, Genesee County businesses could be alerted if, they come back. Nothing I hate worst then people who are too lazy to work for what they have.

Thank you Bea, my comment was part in jest but also something we might investigate. Perhaps students from GCC might wanna do a youtube channel. Then as a community we would showcase what happens when you get caught here in Batavia.
Certainly would be cheaper than a year in the big house on the tax payer's dime.

I don't know what the answer is but if we can't truthfully market ourselves as a decent low crime place to live since employment isn't our game yet, well ...

Sometimes one gets the impression that we live in a parallel universe. Where everything is just the opposite of what we would expect during the Christmas season.

"This was a car vs. pedestrian accident involving one victim, the pedestrian. The person is being transported via Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital."
"A 29-year-old Batavia man is in the intensive care unit at Strong Memorial Hospital following a head-on collision in Orleans County on Saturday afternoon.".......... According to the D&C, Smith told investigators that he fell asleep at the wheel.
"A person contacted dispatch saying he jumped from the second floor of a residence on Tracy Avenue and suffered an ankle injury."
"Five people were jailed Friday, charged with grand larceny and accused of shoplifting from Kmart during a busy Black Friday morning."
"There was a minor accident in the city -- reportedly no injuries -- at Main Street and Dellinger Avenue just before 4:30 p.m"
"A car-into-pole, rollover accident is reported in the Village of Oakfield at Maple Avenue and Albert Street. "The subject is out of the vehicle." Oakfield Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding."
"An 18-year-old Holley resident was seriously injured early Saturday morning when the unlit, slow-moving golf cart he was riding in on Route 237 in Byron was struck by a car."
