Today's Poll: Should mixed martial arts be legalized in New York?

By Howard B. Owens

It's like any other sport such as boxing, football, rugby, wrestling, etc. If you don't want to see it, don't watch it. Other people enjoy MMA so why should someone be able to say it's not going to be legal to watch it here? I don't understand the ruling as it is right now...makes no sense.

If two idiots want to beat the hell out of each other inside a cage, who are we to tell them no?

They wouldn't hear us anyway if we did...what w/ the cauliflower ear and all.

the only reason its not legal is because when this first came about, people were being killed in matches. It was no holds barred. It has evolved so much more since then. There have been major rule changes that protect the safety of the fighters while keeping the integrity of the sport. There is no reason this shouldnt be legal.

Pretty cut and dry really. A typical MMA event in New York will create hundreds of jobs and generate more than $23 million in annual new spending for the local economy according to multiple independent sources. I never miss an MMA event on tv. They go places like Cincinnati, Columbus, Philadelphia, and Toronto multiple times so they will definitely come to Buffalo not just NYC and Madison Square Garden 15 times. One other thing, Republicans are always being bashed as "purity police" when for the last 20 years, its the Democrats that have shot down and not even taken a vote on whether or not to legalize MMA. It's long overdue.
