There's no good reason for ANY criminality to be associated with casual marijuana use. Why should it even be a ticketable offense? Don't just decriminalize it, legalize it!
If people who wanted to use marijuana were able to grow their own, they wouldn't need to buy it from unknown sources. Sending people to jail for marijuana costs taxpayers a fortune. We don't send people to jail for buying a case of beer or a bottle of whiskey so why should we send them to jail or fine them for marijuana possession?
I remember when marijuana was first decriminalized for 7/8ths of an ounce or less. BTW, where in the hell did they come up with 7/8ths of an ounce? If memory serves me correctly, that was 35 years ago and it has taken this long to try and change the laws yet again. It's time to get with the program entirely.
I've always been a bit confused by marijuana laws in NYS anyway. Anyone can have up to 7/8ths of an ounce and the punishment for a first offense is a $100 fine. Where is a person supposed to get that 7/8ths of an ounce without committing the "crime" of unlicensed cultivation of cannabis or of "purchasing" a Schedule I hallucinogenic substance?
Check out the law for simply selling less than 25 grams.
Listen, officer, me and my friends here, well right now we're technically criminals. If you happened to take a walk though, say for ten minutes, we'll reduce this 'criminal' amount of weed to a totally no-big-deal amount. we'd just hate for you to do all that paperwork.

Anyone else ever notice that
Anyone else ever notice that this governor is always willing to go exactly as far as policy polling says is acceptable to 50.1% or more of voters?
The glass is half empty:
The glass is half empty: Cuomo isn't going far enough.
Or it's half full: This is a step toward the eventual and unavoidable legalization.
Oh, it's fine, it's good.
