Le Roy PD nabs burglary suspect following reports from residents on whereabouts

By Howard B. Owens

Early Saturday morning, some Le Roy residents reported seeing a young man going through vehicles and sneaking through yards.

One resident reportedly spotted the man on the rooftop of a residence on Lake Street.

When Le Roy PD first responded, the subject could not be located.

When another resident called in a report of the subject in a back yard, Le Roy PD converged on the location near Lake and Pleasant streets.

The subject allegedly fled on foot and was apprehended after a short chase.

Taken into custody was Tyler F. Longhini, 20, of no permanent address.

At the time of his arrest, Longhini possessed allegedly stolen property, including two GPS units, a Sprint LG phone and prescription medications.

Among the complaints received by police that are being investigated for possible involvement by Longhini is an early morning invasion burglary into an apartment occupied by a resident.

As the morning rolled on, Le Roy PD continued receiving complaints of thefts from numerous unlocked vehicles and an attempted burglary of a locked shed.

Longhini is charged with criminal possession of stolen property, obstructing governmental administration and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Additional charges may be added if warranted following further investigation.

The Le Roy PD is asking that anyone who may have had a vehicle, shed or residence entered Friday night or Saturday morning, or who are missing property, to call the PD office at 345-6350.

In addition to ensuring any suspected crimes are reported, investigators are hoping to identify the owners of recovered property that may have been stolen.

Boy, there is a lot of silly nonsense going on in Leroy, I suppose these folks are not "Native Leroyan's" but "Transplants"....or at least some of the Leroy readers here will claim!!!

Both go to the same place (emergency dispatch on Park Road). This was the number included in the press release so it's what I went with.

As the reader that corrected that statement or should I say correct statement from a prior comment is thrown into this. It has nothing to do with native or not. I made that comment and corrected it after. The sadness is drug use and crime are up everywhere no matter where they come from. Instead of sarcasm stay on task with what can we do to lower the crime rate and get people the help they need. Quoting his facebook? Seriously? What exactly does that have to do with Howard's report? And that is the non emergency number to 911.

I agree with Lucie. We all should be focusing on ways to curb the drug use and crime in our towns and villages. Who cares about such petty things, whether they are a "native" or a "transplant." We just want to try to keep LeRoy a safe place to live. Doug, why is it you feel compelled to post people's facebook pages? You remind me of an old woman in our neighborhood when I was a kid, just looked out the window all day to see what they neighbors are doing and then reported it to whom ever would listen. You must live on your computer. Thanks, but we don't need to know the facebook link. It's almost as if you are stalking folks.

Speak for yourself Barbara, I also am a member of this forum and I like to read the facebook pages that Doug posts. If they arent pivate (which is the users choice) It gives an interesting insight on the character of the person in the news. So make sure to correct your future posts in saying that YOU dont want to see the facebook page, as you dont speak for me or other forum members. It may seem like stalking folks, but attempt to shame or humiliate him into bending to your preferences makes you seem like a bully or like a nanny. Maybe you can find a Govt job?

Lucie,
you weren't the only Leroyan who made a statement about people in the news not being "native Leroyan's" but you are right, we all need to do something to help the crime rate and drug use in our communities.

Doug keep posting the facebook profiles. Some people like to know what is going on around them. Some like to keep a blind eye to the truth around them.

John Woodworth the article was truth enough. You don't need to be so nosey to dig into their whole life. There is no blind eye. There is a drug problem that is in all our faces. Unfortunately you do not realize that I am a mother of a child that struggles with addictions. I would have to say I have no blind eye. Commenting on articles and digging past reports are two different things. It is a shame that you waste time to further report on his personal life when these young men go to court and they do that through PSI for sentencing. People like you are not part of a solution. Use that energy to help find a solution instead of being petty.

Again Lucie these profiles on facebook can be made private with a few keystrokes. Those that choose not to do so at their own risk. As far as addictive behavior goes, as the sdopted child of an addict and having had a couple of children that fought addiction, I think I have the same breadth of knowledge that you lay claim to. It isnt a waste of time to further look to the personal lives of addicts cause as you well know the addiction is what runs them, not morals or sense of community. Neighbors have a right to know the character of these people that live around them and may decide to wrong them as well. Its not noseyness, but self preservation, I did not like the fact that my father, and my sons have stolen not only money but items from me and I am a close blood relative. It was the bottom that one of them hit that enabled them to get their life straight and get on the road to recovery. John and Doug are entitled and have the right to post public information and comment on it in regards to people that are in these stories. The people that commit these crimes made their choices, I dont like it when comments are made bout my father or my sons but that is part of the choice they made. They ended up putting themselves in that place to be judged and talked about, its up to them to either turn themselves around or to defend themselves. Not mine or their mothers.

Thank you for your opinions on what we should post but they arent going to make people stop, in fact I bet more will begin posting facebook pages as well. Especially if you keep scolding them and trying to bully them not to.
