Deputy trying to figure out what to do with cats of evicted tenant

By Howard B. Owens

A tenant of an apartment complex on East Main Street is being evicted this morning and the deputy handling the eviction said the man has four cats.

He's requested cat carriers from animal control, but the animal control officer says if the plan is to relocate the cats to the shelter, there is no room.

"That's definitely my last resort," the deouty said, adding that the tenant's mother is trying to find some place to place the cats.

Animal control is responding with cat carriers to at least act as temporary housing for the felines until more suitable arrangements can be made.

UPDATE: The deputy is apparently taking the cats to a location on Lewiston Road.

Irene, I have 3 cats and my 2 oldest are 13 years old. One of them is totally blind but he's my buddy-ol-pal and always has been. I can't imagine doing anything to hurt him. All three of them greet me when I come home from work and one of them sleeps at my feet on the bed every night. Heck, a few years ago the two older cats had it out with a raccoon under my bed! The raccoon got into the house through the pet door and those cats met him head-on. I had to shoot it, but they did their part, too and poor "Chunk" got pretty beat up in the process. They're loyal to the end and I return the favor in kind.

lol Doug, you reminded me of a cat I ha when I lived in Syr 25 yrs ago. I had a racoon that moved into an abandoned shed. Now Stryper was an english tabby, very big as cats go and my vet said the biggest he had ever known. That cat loved everyone except uniform cops and wild animals. Well aparently when I was at work my then wife had taken my toddler to the back yard and surprised the raccon (average size) in the backyard. Without a hesitation Stryper attacked that raccoon and killed it before it could get to my son. Thank god my wifer was smart enought to call animal control. They tested the raccoon while Stryper got stiches across his eye and chest. Needless to say it was the first time my vet had heard of a cat vs raccoon fight ending like this. He was sacrred for life but just as loving as ever. He also potty trained himself during his onvalescence too he was a one of a kind cat. I gues we would be considered "cat guys" huh Doug?

GOOD for YOU GUYS !!!! I know there are probably more responsible pet owners than there are irresponsible ones - - just like there are more law-abiding citizens than criminals. Too bad the BAD ones - of BOTH - are always in the NEWS !!!! I'm a dog person, myself.

Kyle and Irene, I'm definitely a cat person because of their independence. I used to have 3 dogs and grew up with a doberman in the house. Dobermans are big sucks! They just love attention and have a great disposition. The other three dogs I had, they were my pals, but they were a PITA! No matter what I did, they would get out and I'd have to bail them out of doggie jail. That, and the fact that they needed constant attention, would chew everything and couldn't be left alone for more than 6 hours, I gave up on dogs and became a cat guy. Cats are far smarter than dogs and require little maintenance. I can go away for a week or two and the cats need nothing other than a bag of food, a huge tub of water and someone to come scratch their ears every few days. A dog would be dead under the same circumstances..lol.

LOL my two cats are little darlings, one loves to watch the outside, but try to get her to go outside LOL good luck. That why I stayed out of the commentary on cats indoors vs outdoors. My other cat has the natural curiosity of outdoors, however she is a bit scared. She is however becoming leash trained, whic we discovered when the got her cat toy,( one of those sticks w a bird feather on a string) Tangled up in a cat sweater we had for her after she was fixed and seemed a lil chilly. She loved being led around so we got her a harness. Both are wonderful cats and as Doug pointed out smart as heck. We havent had a fly or any thing in this house all season. Not to mention every time I have had an infection coming on, these guys seem to know before the doctor. I'll wake up in the middle of the night with one nestled in next to me and one on top of me.
