A two-car accident with injuries is reported at 9114 Alleghany Road, in front of the hair salon and in a construction area. One driver is unresponsive. Corfu Fire Department and Mercy EMS are responding.
UPDATE 1:31 p.m.: A second ambulance is requested.
UPDATE 1:32 p.m.: The driver who was unresponsive is now alert and answering questions.
UPDATE 1:47 p.m.: The driver who is the more injured of the two victims, a woman who was initially unresponsive, is now said to be "sort of alert." "She rear-ended the other car and took a pretty good blow," says a responder. Sheriff's deputies are also on scene. The other driver is out and able to walk.
UPDATE 1:59 p.m. One patient is being transported to Erie County Medical Center.
UPDATE 2:05 p.m.: A second victim is also being taken to ECMC being taken to UMMC. She is 64-year-old female whose vehicle was struck from behind. All units are clearing the scene.
I own "The Farm" across the
I own "The Farm" across the street from this accident. This is the second accident today in that spot, and approx. the 5th accident in this small stretch they are working on in the last month. The road work is never in the same spot very long each day, and the people holding the stop signs are sometimes hard to see, due to so many cones, equipment, barrells and such. Think some flashing lights and or better signs that a stop is coming up is needed.
I just wish people would slow
I just wish people would slow down and have some patience in construction zones. So many drivers look for a way around people who are actually using a buffer zone between them and the vehicle in front of them. People love passing on the right or tailgating the person in front of them like it's going to get them somewhere faster. Using caution in a construction zone often gets you dirty looks and aggressive maneuvers from other drivers.

Renee, so the ROAD WORK AHEAD signs that are a 1/2-1 mile before the work zone are not enough for motorist to slow down and be prepared to stop?
Doug, I agree. Too many people suffer from the "me-first-before-everyone-else" syndrome.
I travel on 77 from Broadway
I travel on 77 from Broadway to the Rez when I go on fuel runs and people completely ignore the construction zone speed limits. When they approach a zone with a single lane and a flag man, I swear they are oblivious to what's happening. It's almost like they don't see down the road..they're only staring at what's directly in front of their vehicle. I have actually been passed while slowing down for a flagman and then the person passing me had to slam on their brakes when they realized what the hell was going on. Talk about wanting to road rage..lol. I love looking at them and clapping my hands while yelling out the window: "YAAAAAAAAAY...you beat me to the flag man/stop light! You win!"
