As if our taxes aren't high enough already, and going higher still? Would the families like lobster tail delivered to their bleachers as well? Seriously.
Then PETA will sue the school district. And Michelle Obama would demand choices lower in cholesterol. The Notre Dame HS fields are mud soup and their teams seem to survive just fine. I wonder if both of the families are feeling the effects of taxpayer reaction this morning. Kind of hard to unring that bell.
Let's put our TAXES into learning first, Parents, then we can worry about a softball bleacher. I played in the dirt and it did not hurt me, or you!
TAXES are high enough.
STOP THIS MADNESS!!!!!!
What's the full story here? The only thing mentioned on this site is the press release from the school. Seems a little one sided to me. Can you provide full detail as to what this is about before everyone is fed an opinion to have?
If parents are in an uproar over the condition of the field, and/or the spectator seating, then why don't they organize a fundraiser to replace the existing bleachers with new ones?
Keep it up parents, lets see three parents think their needs supercede the taxpayer's votes that they have the right to do this. Fine, schools have been cutting athletic programs left and right all the time nowadays. Cut this one and boom..... problem solved. Money saved.
Yeah - what is the FULL story? Did the city just dump a ton of money into baseball fields so the boys can have safe and smooth surfaces to play on, yet the softball field is dangerous?
If that is the case, sue away... sometimes the only way to force folks to do the right thing is through the courts. If the city officials allowing this to happen (again, assuming unequal treatment of the fields) refuse to act appropriately, force action through the courts, and vote appropriately for (or against) those officials at the next election.
Well said Kyle, as a parent of four children that ALL play sports in the district, I for one am very grateful that we have been able to hold onto as many athletic programs as we have, especially when cuts are being made ALL over in athletic programs in other districts. Truly the field is terrible, and I was one of those parents that would sit on the ground and watch my kid, but it is all good, I got back up, I was fine. My daughter got a job this year, I am kind of glad now.....
I think it's important to put out there that the district agrees these upgrades need to be done. They (the upgrades) were originally a part of the 2011 improvement grant that was voted down. Since then, the district has tried to do as much as we could with our limited funds.
Last year, we were focused on a consolidation plan. All the while putting together the Capital Project plan that again addressed these issues. To say that the district ignored this, or did not find it a priority is wrong.
Next month, you will all get to vote on our budget and this Project, but to Kyle's point, yes, if that project is voted down we will be 100% liable.
Personally, and not speaking for anyone in the district or the board, I do not agree with this at all. As the father of two daughters, having a fair and equitable place of learning is a big priority to me. This lawsuit could have been held until after the vote to see what would happen, but instead the district will now have to pay to defend it, even if the vote is approved.
I respect everyone's right to speak up, voice opinions and defend their rights. I would like it known, and it's a matter of public record, since I have been on the board (November 2011), I have NEVER had a single parent or player from this team ever come before us to speak on this.
