Cats pounce on 'Dogs pitching for 8-4 victory
post by Howard Owens in baseball, in batavia, in muckdogs, in sports

Avery Romero added two more notches to his league-leading RBI total Monday night, but it wasn't enough to overcome some erratic pitching as the Muckdogs dropped to 13-14 with a 8-4 loss to the Tri-City Wildcats.
Romero is the best hitting player in the league so far, with a .361 average, 35 hits, 18 RBI, 10 doubles and 51 total bases (all league-leading stats), but the Wildcats are so far the best team in the NYPL with a record of 20-9.
Drafted in the third round of last year's amatuer draft, Romero is considered one of the Marlin's top 15 prospects.
After falling behind 3-0 in the second inning on back-to-back home runs by on Jon Kemmer and Thomas Lindauer, the eight and nine hitters in the line up, Batavia battled back in the fourth on consecutive doubles by Austin Dean, Felix Munoz and Romero followed by a single driving in Romero by Coco Johnson.
The rally was snuffed when Johnson tried to stretch his single into a double (top photo) and was called out on a close play at second by umpire Joe George. George's raised thumb brought manager Angel Espada charging over from the third base coaching, yelling a string of expletives. The call didn't change, but Espada was out of the game.
The Muckdogs took a 4-3 lead in the fifth, but Casey McCarthy (2-2) couldn't hold the lead and was charged with a blown save and took the loss, giving up three runs in the 7th to move his ERA to 6.00.
The starter for Batavia was Jarlin Garcia, who gave up three runs in five innings of work.
The attendance was 1,100. Next home game is at 7:05 p.m. June 23 against the Jamestown Jammers.
It was Mormon Night and former Cy Young winner Vern Law threw out the first pitch, a Mormon choir sang the National Anthemn, a Native American dancer was featured and white-shirted missionaries tossed prizes to the crowd.

Dear Anne, I'm not sure what your point is or why we would purposely post an incorrect date for Deal of the Day -- or for that matter how it would benefit us or anyone else.

If you want to get a full list of all the Deals of the Day on our site and the times and dates each was posted, simply go to the Home Page, go to the search box in the upper right, and type in Today's Deals. Hit enter or return and a list will appear of all the Deals of the Day we've ever published and when they were published.

The most recent ones are:

July 18 -- still up and live -- but posted at 2:05 p.m. today
July 16, 5:35 p.m.
July 13, 10:52 a.m.
July 12, 11:42 a.m.
July 8, 11:48 a.m.
July 5, 11:17 a.m.
June 30, 10:46 a.m.
June 26, 2:01 p.m.
June 21, 12:37 p.m.
June 15, 12:28 p.m.

Furthermore, there is no rhyme or reason as to when these are published -- it's simply a matter of when I can do so, no drama there. If you have a specific concern, please feel free to e-mail me at billie@thebatavian.com or phone me at 585.905.5581.

Have a wonderful evening.

Anne, your post makes absolutely no sense. As for your first comment, I have no idea what you're saying. You comment on a post that posted on July 16 and make some sort of assertion, I guess, that it was posted on a different day. I have no idea how you arrive at that conclusion. As for your second comment, proof of what?

You know, if it's deals you're after, if you join the Batavian Club -- you get $325 in gift certificates (soon to be $335 worth), plus vouchers for the Muckdogs and Darien Lake for $60. You won't find a better deal than that anywhere.

Ya' know, Howard, I had the same conclusion you did when I 'started' to read Anne's comment. My first reaction was, "Huh? What?"

The only thing I could deduce was that somebody recently told Anne about (Ctrl)+A , (Ctrl)+C and (Ctrl)+V.

Well, as we can see, they do work.

I think that somehow today (the 18th) she saw the deals of the day that were posted by Billie on the 16th and thinks that she has no chance to win them. If she would look at the front page, the deals of the day for today are completely different than the ones she copied/pasted (along with 17 other articles and comments, lol)

Lori: Would you happen to be any relation to Norm Silvernail? Norm would be around 75-80 or so, by now. He was my foreman when I worked in the shipping dept. at CB-Foods, in Le Roy, in 1967. I know he was from somewhere in the Pembroke/Alabama area. Just wondering if you knew him.

Ed, Norm was my Uncle, my late father's brother. Norm passed away a number of years ago. I remember way back in my early childhood that periodically he would bring us a few cases of dented, unlabeled vegetables from Curtis Burns. We learned how to read the stamps on the ends after a while, but before that we never knew which one we'd be opening!

Thanks, Lori. Yeah, I remember those codes, even after 45 years. The 2000 (series) were beets, corn was 0100 (series), green beans were the 3000 (series), etc. Then, they were broken down even further, like 2020 might be whole beets, but 2040 might be cut beets, and so on.
Yeah, I liked Norm. He was like a BIG brother to me. Tough, too! I remember, one time, one of the forklift drivers had knocked the steel ramp that went from the railroad cars to the loading dock, off the dock and onto the tracks. Three of the guys tried to pick it up, but it was too heavy for them. I actually watched your uncle grab ahold of it and swing it up onto the dock by himself. A mountain of a man, not huge, but powerful. And a great guy, too. It was an honor to know him, and, at that time, to call him a friend.

Heh-heh! Cute, Beth. Yeah, it sometimes feels that way, but, there's a lot of people I never met. Apparently, the ones I HAVE met have relatives on thebatavian. But, you have to remember - I'm a LOT older than you are. And, I've lived in 5 counties, 4 cities and dozens of villages/hamlets. But, you probably know more people than I do. I'm not a very 'outgoing' person, per se, that's all. But, that should come as no shock to you. :)

Thanks for the story, Ed. My Dad (Lloyd) and another uncle (Ray) were truck drivers and were both very strong guys as well. If I remember correctly, Norm also cut trees and even with his size could run up one like nothing. Family reunions were a lot of fun when I was a kid.

You're probably right, Kyle. But then, I never got around the central part of NY much. Although, I did live in Natural Bridge (Jefferson County) for a while. I'd have to ask some of my friends up there. Know anyone from there, Kyle?
