It looks like a go for a new Tim Horton's on the west side of Batavia. The Town Planning Board was given a chance to see the final plans for the coffee shop and adjacent retail building last night and it doesn't appear there will be any opposition.
The final site plan is expected to be approved at the board's next meeting Oct. 1.
The location is between West Main Street Road and Lewiston Road behind Rite Aid. There will be driveways on Lewiston Road and Colonial Boulevard.
One Colonial Boulevard resident was at Tuesday's meeting, Amy DiSalvo. Tim Horton's architect Matt Oats showed how the plans included a privacy fence along DiSalvo's property and she said she was satisfied with the plan.
The Tim Horton's will seat 48 people, including 16 in an outdoors patio area. it will also have a drive-thru.
On the West Main Street side of the road will be a retail building that can accommodate from one to three tenants. There are no signed leases yet for the space.
The entire parcel with both buildings erected will have 45 parking spaces.
Construction on the retail building can begin as soon as the site plan is removed.
Workers can't build the Tim Horton's building until the current brick building on Lewiston is removed, with demolition requiring environmental approvals.
Bob Bender, project manager for Benderson Development, said he hopes construction can begin in November and weather permitting, construction will take 90 days.
The franchise owner for the location has not yet been announced.

Lets take away someones home so we can build ANOTHER roundabout that NO ONE wants.
Lets destroy nature to build a coffee house when there are 25 places to get coffee within 1/2 mile.
Lets let the state decide how many employees we need at the jail. Never question the state!!! They know best!!! They are exactly aware of the situation, you know, being almost 400 miles away and all.

To the best of my knowledge (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong), Tim Horton's isn't getting any special sweetheart deals to build there. They chose the location because it's on a main thoroughfare and they feel they can turn a profit from there. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they are right. I've been by the downtown location around 7, the foot-traffic line goes out the door and most of the way down their sidewalk. Their drive-thru line wraps 3/4s of the way around the store. That suggests to me that there is business enough for everybody selling coffee to keep selling.
And let's keep the 'destroying nature' talk in perspective. We're talking about a half dozen trees on a patch of lawn.

So they will destroy the oxygen producing, co2 cleaning, enormous, beautiful, 200 year old tress that are there, and replace them with genetically modified trees, that are designed not to grow too large, and not to goto seed.
Maybe you should get your head out of your ass and look at the world around you. Maybe try thinking past the point of "OH THEY CAN MAKE MONEY SO ITS OK"

Im very sorry for you. You live in a sad dark place, where a convenient cup of coffee and some potential profits is more important to you than a 200 year old copse of tree's.

I'm not aware of Tim Horton's receiving any taxpayer assistance for the new location.
While I"m clearly a "Shop Local" partisan, it is a free country. If Tim Horton's determines through their market research that another location here can be profitable, bully for them. It's a free country. I only object to taxpayer money subsidizing business -- such as Dick's -- to come in and compete with local businesses (existing or potential). It should be a level playing field and to offer tax breaks to companies that will harm local businesses is absolutely wrong in all circumstances. But if a company comes in with out tax breaks, that's their right.

Christopher, Coffee Culture is a chain shop also, just like Tim Horton's and will be a franchise operation. No tax breaks.
200 year old trees? In that
200 year old trees? In that location? First of all not very feasible, If you truly know anything about trees a tree that is 150 years old being removed from some land causes instability for almost .75 of an acre due to its root system general rule of thumb is that the denistiy of branches and foliage you see above, equals what is below. Generally contractors know this so dont take out large trees haphazardly as it requires removal of the root system.
I find it pretty devaluing when people use generalized and exaggerated arguments over things that really arent all that critical. It makes other tune out those same arguments when they ARE valid which it really isnt in this case.

By the way Christopher, I looked at your before and after pictures.... Honestly I see more trees in the AFTER picture than the before. I hope they were of the same spot otherwise they arent really before and after pictures are they? I think you are making mountains out of anthills here.
If Timmy Ho's wants to build with their dime and spend money here locally for construction and then pay into sales tax then let them. I worry bout the traffic in and out more than the building and greenspace damage.

The opinion im expressing is this. To me, the beauty of the trees, the oxygen they produce and the shade they provide, are more important than Tim Hortons. More important then money. More important than a bit of traffic in a cluster fooked area.
To the person commenting about the before and after. Really? Of course its not the same location! You really cant recognize the picture of Tim Hortons in downtown batavia? The picture of the tree is one that Howard took, and it only shows 1, but there are many more than 1. The fact is. ONE of the trees in Howard's picture produces many times as much oxygen as ALL the trees surrounding the other location, combined.
