Today's Poll: Should people convicted of animal abuse be placed in a animal-cruelty registry?

I voted Yes, but just like convicted felons can get their hands on firearms, convicted animal abusers will still get their hands on animals.

Without strict enforcement, and open access to the registry for animal shelters and pet stores, it's a futile endeavor.

I voted yes. I repeat YES! When you bring an "animal" into your home, it becomes your family. Beating, kicking, starving or mistreatment of ANY KIND of that family should put your butt in jail. I'd love to know the 18% who said no.

Probably those people who would be on said list or those who think that animals dont deserve the basic rights that human being's enjoy.

The survey doesn't ask for anyone's opinion on animal abuse. It asks if we want even more intrusive government. Don't worry soon everyone will be on some kind of list or registry.

I would like to see a registry of people who believe in government registries.

Here's a question. A very serious one.

How many of you have actually walked into a humane society, vet or shelter of some type and have seen an animal brought in after an abuse case?

Aftrer reading one of the proposed bills before the NY legislature, I find myself stumped.

S 353-G. TETHERING, RESTRAINING, CAGING OR PENNING OF DOGS OR ANIMALS.
1. IT SHALL BE UNLAWFUL TO TIE, TETHER, RESTRAIN, CAGE OR PEN A WORKING OR NON-WORKING DOG OR ANIMAL, BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 7 P.M. TO 6 A.M.

So, it appears that, between 7 at night 'til 6 in the morning, NY'ers cannot LEGALLY put ANY animal, be it a dog, cat, camel, cow, horse, snake, hamster, etc. in a cage, pen, tether them to anything.

And you thought that NYSafe made criminals out of law-abiding citizens? Not on the scale that THIS does.

NY isn't a 'nanny state'. It's a state ruled by 'ninnies'!

I have also Lisa....thats where my oldest cat came from. She is a sweetheart to me but women and children tend to upset her. When I got her she was badly injured in her rear end. Apparently she had been swung around by her hind feet, tail and kicked around. Her bruises were so bad she lost her fur all over her tail and rear half of her body.

She is fine now, all the tender care has led her to be a truly sweet cat. However she still shy's away from adult overweight women and 12 to 15 yr old children. I had helped her groom until her fur came back in and she is now dog like when it's time to brush her. I had to put a yarn lanyard on her brush so she can grab it and bring it to me when she feels the need to be brushed. (Which is just about every evening)

So yes, I dont do it as much anymore because I get so angry. I was able to see the Kelso dog when he was being fostered though. I was wonderful to see what some food and love could bring a dog most would have given up on from..... Hope he is doing well with his new LOVING family too.

So Ed, if I went to a local zoo and let all the animals out I could claim I was doing my duty as a concientious citizen under State Law S 353-G? Sounds like it could be fun
