A caller reports a black car is parked with a dog inside it near the entrance of Wal-Mart. Law enforcement is responding. It's a 2013 Chevy Impala and the engine is running.
"The caller is not concerned about the welfare of the dog," says the dispatcher. "She's concerned about the dog putting the car in gear and running into pedestrians."
"She's concerned about the
"She's concerned about the dog putting the car in gear and running into pedestrians." Oh, I see. Good thing a car made in 2013 has interlocks to prevent that.
The dog would have to step on
The dog would have to step on the brake and then move the shifter to get it out of park. Highly unlikely.
I was thinking the same thing
I was thinking the same thing, James.
Any dog that knows to engage the gear shift, while simultaneously pressing the brake pedal down, probably already has a driver's license.
I'm sorry, Irene. Wasn't
I'm sorry, Irene. Wasn't trying to step on you toes. Looks like you & I had the same idea. You were quicker to tap the Enter button (ever since I bought my 1st computer, I've been saying that I wish I'd taken typing in high school)
I would be concerned if it
I would be concerned if it were Toonces left in the car. But not over a dog. A dog can't drive a car.
I loved "Toonces the Driving
I loved "Toonces the Driving Cat," too!

Ed. Actually the dogs in the Subaru commercials seem to be able to drive very well.
Caller probably saw the news
Caller probably saw the news clip of the car that drove into a Wal Mart in Ohio just recently, but I think there were 2 dogs left in a running car there(and a much older car). Why can't people just leave their pets at home if they go to a store? I understand some dogs like to go for a ride, but geesh.....go for a drive,go through a drive thru and get your dog a snack, then go home on hot days like this. I have one of those vent thermometers for the car-it reaches a little over 140 degrees on days like this-I can hardly touch steering wheel when I get in car.
OK, Eric. Never seen them, so
OK, Eric. Never seen them, so I couldn't say. I'll look them up on Youtube.
