Photo: New Dunkin' Donuts construction begins

By Howard B. Owens

Construction began this week on the new Dunkin' Donuts location on West Main Street, Batavia. The location is on the south side of the street, across from Redfield Parkway and next to Barrett's Batavia Marine.

Can't wait to see the traffic trying to turn into there from Main St. and trying to exit onto Main when it opens and how many accidents....I wonder why they waited all summer, then break ground a month before the snow flies......hopefully they were smart enough to design it so no left turns onto Main from in front of business, unless they plan on re-installing the light at Redfield......

Let me start by saying that it LOVE LOVE LOVE Dunkin Donuts, and completely agree that we need one with a drive thru, but NOT ON THE WEST END!!!

The traffic there is going to be a $hit show.

How about something on the east end of Batavia??

Jim, "need" is not the issue. The ability for a person to invest his/her own money in a business that they believe can make them money is. We don't need any of them, but enough people "want" them to make them profitable. Not hard to figure out.

I just find it odd when the same person owns 2 of the same stores in a town this size! They are only going against their own money. If a person has his mind set on McDonald`s, he would drive to the one that was already there 9 out of 10 times. I know you just look at it as another place on the tax books. That DD is going to make an absolute mess out of that already clustered area.

Jim, the same man owns both McDonald's in Batavia. He saw an opportunity to sell to people who were not going to the other McDonald's . Same thing here. The DD owner said he expected tp pick up sales to people who do not now go to the one. he owns now.
His money, his risk.

As for the possible traffic problems, I think this time you are right.

The 'need' for those chain restaurants comes from the thruway, people pull off at the exit between Buffalo and Rochester to eat. I also know quite a few people who drive from Buffalo and Rochester to eat at Alex's and The Red Osier, so it's not all fast food. That said, I do have a friend that often comes from Buffalo for Long John Silver's. Batavia is not a place with a lack of dining options.

Ed, I deleted the duplicate 'I' post by Frank, like I delete all duplicate posts. It renders your comment moot, but that was not my intention!

Howard. There you go, again! Thinking!

Wouldn't you think that people our age (over 50) would know by now that some things are beyond our capabilities?

Why, just last week, I thought I had finally found a way to harness the electricity created by (just one of) the lightning bolts here in Florida.

Using an old lift-truck battery, several rolls of Reynolds aluminum foil, a paper kite, 250-feet of fishing line, and a discarded microwave oven, I set everything up in my backyard. Well, my "invention" didn't work. But, I did find out how to fry my neighbor's Lexus, into a molten piece of metal & plastic.

As for my comment to Frank, it wouldn't make any difference if it was aimed at 1 comment, or a half-dozen duplicates. The removal of a duplicate doesn't affect anything I posted.

Touché, Daniel.
As to not to leave you out of the understanding of the "touché" response, Daniel, I'll try my best to wind my way (circuitously, of course - which is my way) to the explanation of it's use.

Bizarre comments? Bizarre comments?

When I comment on this site, or, most sites, I try my best to relate my responses using 1 of 2 characteristics: (1) on the original subject matter; (2) on other comments posted.

I did that very thing in (each of) my comments on this thread. As I found the "original subject matter", a new Dunkin' Donuts, not that interesting OR earth shaking, I opted for using characteristic #2 (other people's comments) as the basis for my posts. (I responded to Frank's, then, later, to Howard's comment.)

You're probably correct in your diagnosis. I probably do exhibit (some form of) Derailment (thought disorder).

As I read through the different characteristics of "Derailment (thought disorder)", from the link you provided, I self-diagnosed myself as suffering, most likely, from "knight's move thinking" (which is described as "... creativity,... a similarly loose association of ideas, it is not considered a mental disorder or the hallmark of one; it is sometimes used as a synonym for lateral thinking.)

That's me, Daniel. A lateral thinker. No two ways about it. I'd much rather think laterally, than I would want to be thinking on a single plane (which could be described as a "plain" thinker - who'd wanna be a "plain" thinker?)

Which brings me back to the touché remark (and how I came to use it).

Touché, among other things, is a term used by participants in the art of fencing. Fencing (as people my age learned from Errol Flynn, et al), was common during the times of the "knights of olde". And, as I believe I probably do (suffer? - I don’t consider it suffering) from a slight form of "knight's move thinking", I chose using the term " Touché".

How's that for a "roundabout", Daniel? Much better than the one proposed for the intersection of Rt.77 and Ledge Rd., wasn't it? (see how much fun "Derailment" can be?).

Have a good day, Daniel!
