How true: Western New York isn't really known for its beauty outside of Western New York.
Before we moved here, we didn't appreciate what a treasure this region is.
I have always called Batavia
I have always called Batavia and WNY my Bedford Falls (from Frank Capra's "It's a Wonderful Life". No matter where I lived, I always found peace when coming back to this area.
It may not be as picturesque as New England or expansive as the west or southwest, but it has a charm found no where else. The photographs capture the essence of this area.
We have a unique rural environment found no where else in this country. I can remember being astounded that the farms in the midwest didn't have silos...or when I learned that in Texas - for example - the dairy cows were kept in pens and not in fields in between milking.
Of course, the familiar is the most comforting, and WNY is most familiar to me.
Speaking of WNY, someone asked me (online) where I was located, and not thinking I just wrote WNY. The person wanted to know what country that was! That was my giggle for the day.
