United Memorial Medical Center's annual Memorial Day ceremony will be held at the Jerome Center, at 16 Bank St. in Batavia. It will start at 9:30 a.m. and last about an hour. The event has been relocated this year because of ongoing construction at UMMC's main site.
Musicians from the Batavia Concert Band will perform the national anthem at the flag out front, and the names of 280 Genesee County soldiers, sailors and marines from both World Wars, the Korean War and Vietnam will be read. For each soldier, a memorial flag will be laid on the ground.
Refreshments will follow in the Jerome Center Conference Room. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the following committee members:
